@averagejosh Didn’t you send your transcripts like 3/4 days ago? congrats btw, that’s great

@hughstan yeah, I was really surprised at how fast they gave me a decision

Stats? Still waiting on RTF.

ACCEPTED! COCKRELL SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING (Mechanical)!!! I found out, sitting in a coffee shop, lets just say I was really caffeinated.

Stats?

60 or so credits in Automotive maintenance/repair, all As.
Associates degree in automotive studies.

3.95gpa, including math up to calc2. As in all my math classes. I have NOT yet taken engineering physics.

^^ 30 transferable credits.

3 essays, which had very dynamic feedback from advisers (some of them said its lacking the personality, while others said it was loaded with personality).

I moved to this damn town in hopes of getting in, taking a big risk. Looks like it paid off.

Best of luck for everyone else!

BTW, anyone looking for rooms/roommates for the Fall semester? I’ll be moving closer to campus, most likely. My budget is under 750/m.

Quick question! How/where do you see your transferable gpa on the my status page?

And another question that is not as quick, if anyone knows:
Is COLA still the easiest college to get in to? And does anyone know if the “unspoken automatic” has changed from last year’s rumored 3.8?

congrats to those accepted. i applied to cockrell for petro from uh’s petro program. i doubt that i can get in but here are my stats 3.7 overall with 33hrs. Calc 1&2-A, Chem 1&2- b+ and b, uphys1-b+, and some other classes like geology and engl which are all A’s. the apps been complete for about 5 days now.

@hammannat I thought for COLA and CNS the unspoken automatic was 3.5?

Haha, really? Well that’s awesome news if it is a 3.5. On another thread I was reading it was mentioned that the unspoken automatic was a 3.8 but I am not the most well informed of people :P

I think having a 3.5 applies if you have outstanding extracurriculars, essays, recommendations, etc.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. The 3.8 was more referring the the unspoken automatic without outstanding extracurriculars, essays, etc.

Hey, guys. I just wanna know what you guys think my chances are of transferring into UT. My first choice was business (which I’m pretty sure I won’t get into) but my second was Economics in COLA.

I just completed my Freshman year at UTSA with a 3.48 (24 hours). Last Summer, I took two classes at Lone Star Community college and finished with a 3.5 (6 hours). I also took a minimester class at Houston Community College in winter and finished with a 4.0 there (4 hours). Altogether, I have a total of 34 hours, solid essays, and a couple extracurriculars. The only catch is during my stay at UTSA, I was forced to drop one of my classes 2nd semester because apparently I took “too many business courses” and I would have been kicked out of UTSA’s business school. Therefore, I received a W in that class and I was unable to explain this since I had already submitted my application.

What do you guys think my chances are?

A 3.5+ will get you into non competitive majors find have at least sold extra curriculars at least! I haven’t seen any post in past threads with a 3.5 being denied unless you did horrible in key courses such as Calc per cal bio chem etc. depending on your major. I’d give you at least a 65% chance of admission. 3.5 is the average gpa of most freshman as well in most majors.

Hi, Randomguy123. You should go back and look at my stats because yours are very similar to mine. As for your situation, it’s hard to say what will happen. I was also a freshman at UTSA this year and I got accepted into COLA Economics (my second choice) at the end of April. Business was my first choice but I don’t think I was ever even considered by McCombs because my GPA was a 3.46 (and I’ve heard that McCombs doesn’t look at you unless you have a 3.5+). I had exactly 30 hours when I applied to UT and I had a strong positive academic trend (an unfortunate 3.21 GPA for 14 hours of high school dual credit, but a relatively decent 3.75 GPA for my fall semester at UTSA). I also had 3 letters of recommendation, spent a considerable amount of time writing and proofreading all 3 essays, and I had a decent amount of work experience. I am still pretty surprised I got accepted, especially because the average accepted GPA for transfer to UT is crawling ever upward each year and is sitting around a 3.62 now. In retrospect, however, I think what ultimately got me through the door was my academic trend, the care and attention I gave to my application, and my work experience - not my GPA.

Now what makes your situation tricky is the fact that you dropped a class. I was originally taking 19 hours this past spring semester but I dropped a history class in the first two weeks of the semester so I could dedicate more time to calculus II, one of the business indicator courses. Since I dropped the history class in the first two weeks of the semester, a sort of designated “free-drop” period, I got a refund for that class and it never appeared on my transcript. However, if I had dropped that class after the two week period, I would have had a W on my transcript showing that I attempted the class and withdrew for some unknown reason. Most people who drop a class are able to explain it in their essay or they send UT a letter with an explanation. However, I think it is too late for that in your case. Depending on what the class was it may not be a big deal to UT, but I certainly don’t think it works in your favor.

Your GPA is just slightly on the low side but, depending on the quality of your essays/whether you sent in letters of recommendation/what your extracurriculars and work experience were on your resume, those things may get you through the door. Unfortunately, I think you may be up a creek without a paddle because of that W and because this late in the application process there are fewer spots available at UT and the remaining spots usually go to applicants with high GPAs.

Now, all of that said, I could easily be wrong. I’m only going by what knowledge I’ve gathered through this painful transfer process. But I wanted to give you my opinion because your situation pulls at my heart strings a little bit. You and I sound like pretty similar students and I bet that if UT gives you the opportunity to attend, you would do well there.

I really hope you get in. Best of luck and please let us know how it goes! After all, I’m sure the 2014 fall transfer students will be looking over this thread in 9 months trying to chance themselves as they anxiously complete their applications. :)

I’ve already mentioned this before but my cumulative gpa after 32 hrs is a 3.74… Do you still think I’d be treated the same as an applicant with a 3.8+ for CNS, biochemistry(aka pretty much accepted)? I’d like some more opinions… I have a lot of ec’s, mostly research though… and I had decent essays, but no recommendation letters… I hope not having them doesn’t kill my chances. As far as individual grades go for science courses, A in calc 1, A- in calc 2, A- in chem 1, B in chem 2, A in phys 1, All As in labs. The only reason my gpa is this low is because of chem 2 and psychology. I would’ve had a 3.8 if I had in A in one of those courses…

Any word on when the College of Communications will be sending out decisions for those who had to send in a second transcript showing 30 hours?

Hi,

I am applying to the college of education as a transfer from Lonestar. Stats = 3.51 gpa, 32 hours. essays ok… no recommendation letters. Just submitted by Spring semester grades a few days ago. can someone chance me?

My spring semester grades are now shown on my app. Waiting is killing me…

How do you check what your GPA is on my status?
