2013/2014 Fall Transfer Thread

Oh yeah I already have a bunch of things lined up! My cousin offered some volunteer work at her church for a camera person plus all the other things I plan on doing. I’ve got most of my non-major courses finished aside from foreign language and my second geology course so I should be able to take a bunch of easy electives and RTF classes.

It’s just too bad RTF only accepts Fall transfers.

Congratulations y’all! See y’all in July, Hook’em!!

Who’s going to be at the July 11/12th orientation?

15/16th :/

July 15th here as well!

Gotta do late orientation on August 20th… Gonna get screwed on class selection.

11th/12th here!!

And I’m not so sure you’ll be royally screwed in registration. My brother transferred to UT last fall and he had to go to late orientation too. He told me his classes were actually good. So here’s hoping you register alright.

How much did you guys get in aid? I got like $2400/yr in grant money, $4500 sub loan, and $2000 unsub loan. I don’t know how I am going to pay for it. I can’t believe I did that scholarship application for nothing.

My EFC was 6327/yr.

Also I might note that I didn’t include the parent loan (which covered like $17500). In all my total package was a little less than my COA (which is not really correct since it’s for on-campus housing and not off-campus housing). However my mom doesn’t want to take out any money for me (understandable since it’s my decision, not hers) so the parent loan is irrelevant.

I got out about 8.5k in grants and 18k in loans. The loans include the sub, unsub, and parent loans; however, I knew the parent loan will be rejected because of my moms credit, so I’ll receive additional unsubbed loans later. I’m pretty much covered, but my EFC is 0 so that explains it.

Jp maybe work-study can cover the rest of your tuition? I’ve never done work-study, so I dunno how you’d go about with the process if you wanted to.

Didn’t qualify for work study.

My EFC was $5952.

They gave me $2964/yr in grants, $3000 in work-study, $4500 in subsidized loan, $1000 in unsubsidized loan, and $12,240 in PLUS loan.

It would be awesome if I could graduate college with less than $35,000 in loan debt…

Yeah I really wish I got some form of work study. I’m about to call them with several questions. I’m really hoping that the scholarship committees haven’t looked at my application yet. I hear they inform people June and July.

On the bright side it looks like I got my co-op stuff settled out. I’ll be in Eden house.

Pretty stoked to live in the Pearl St. Co-op.

I was offered a spot but I wasn’t sure I would be accepted and didn’t want to the deposit on the chance I get denied.

oh i didn’t get any financial aid (grants/scholarships), i mean i got like a 13K loan but i’m not taking any loans out, a little bummed but it’s whatever.
and i’m going to the 15th/16th orientation as well!

How do you plan on paying? Have you saved up already?

I hate the financial aid system. My mom’s EFC doesn’t even consider things like bills or credit card payments. Sucks because last year I got a lot more money.

my parents have been saving up since i was born so i’m a little lucky in that aspect i guess, but still i wouldn’t mind receiving aid, i’m going to try to apply for some scholarships though.

I did the scholarship application and didn’t get a single thing. My mom is a single mom so she never really had the ability to save up money for me. Going to cc for another year isn’t really an option either since I hate it and there isn’t enough classes for me to take (the only other one is my second geology course). All my other classes I have to take at UT since they are the only ones that offer it.

I plan on saving up money over the summer by working 40 hours a week (about $500 per paycheck). Hopefully I can find a job near or on campus for extra money so I’m not just sitting at home doing nothing.

I just got accepted as a transfer student from an ACC into UT Austin by the College of Natural Sciences for Computer Science.

GPA: 3.9/4.0
Credits: 42
Drops: 2W’s (Music and Spanish)
Draw-Backs (Reasons to Deny Me): I have no science courses that I have taken, I started taking Geology over the summer but UT isn’t aware of this.
Essays: My essays were pretty strong and emphasized projects I have created and programmed over the years and companies that I have started.
Age: 20 Years Old
Jobs: I’ve worked a job the past 2 years while at community college.
ECCs: Part of honors program, CS Club, Swimming and Diving, Marching Band

However despite all of the information they accepted me into Computer Science for the Fall and I’ll see all of you then! For those of you that haven’t gotten a response yet, HOLD TIGHT it took them 3 months to respond to me.

Orientation: July 15th and 16th, I’ll be spending the night on campus. Those dates were the only dates available. Hopefully it won’t affect class selection too bad.
