2013/2014 Fall Transfer Thread

jpgarcia,

The first semester you may not get any aid, but keep your grades high, and the second semester you may see some grants and possibly a scholarship.

As far as employment goes, there’s tons of restaurants on Guad and in West Campus in general. Also hirealongorn.org is a portal for UT-Students only. In fact, I got my job on there. You have to use your UT EID and whatnot.

Ill be living at my home here in Austin and taking buses to campus  gotta save that $$

I wish I was lucky enough to have my parents living in Austin. I could save 10K a year.

Hopefully I can keep my grades up. I still have to transfer to RTF the year after so I’m going to try going for really good grades. Hopefully I can also get grants the next semester.

As for employment I could keep my job at Best Buy but I don’t think I could handle the workload at UT and work 30hrs a week during the holidays like last year. It would be way too hard for me. Plus I’m tired of retail.

Hey I work at Best Buy too! lol whats your major? Many majors have great internship opportunities. As a CS Major most of the internships I looked up for computer science pay $15,000 for 3 months of work over the summer. That would be enough money to pay for school. Its funny in 3 months in an internship I would match my BBY annual income.

Technically I’m entering as a UGS major but I want MDOT in RTF with an emphasis in visual effects and game design. CS has great internships and RTF has the UTLA program.

how often do orientation sessions open back up? i really want that july 11-12th spot

I’m actually not sure if they do. It just depends on if somebody ends up changing their mind about UT. Honestly I wouldn’t count on it.

If anybody on this board is going to the July 15th/16th orientation we should all meet up and commence in friendmaking!

i tried to change my orientation several times and finally i was able to switch from july 15/16 to the june 27/28 yesterday! the space available differs depending on your major, while there was space left for communications, i know my friend in mccombs said the june one was still closed for him! i’d recommend just keeping an eye out for openings, typically 8 AM is when i heard you’ll see them!

Can you still change if you already paid? And where do you go to change?

I got an email from Housing saying permanent housing is unavailable, so they offered me supplemental housing (which I took). Just an update for those wishing to live on campus.

And I believe you can switch dates easily through the orientation page on UTDirect. However, the FAQs for orientation say the changes must be made 8 calendar days before the first session. Which is a weird place right now since the session starts in 6 days.

Looking for an apartment?

In March I signed a lease at the Block on Leon thinking I would not get offered a spot in on-campusing housing. Today I got an email offering supplemental housing and I need someone to take my lease. I called the Block and they said if I find someone to take my spot they can transfer the lease over.

1 bedroom 1 bathroom; 521 sq ft.

You have to be eligible for smart housing, which is based on your financial aid statement (depending on grants and scholarships)

The Block on Leon is in west campus close to a bus stop. I would much rather live off campus, but my parents decided they want me to live on campus so I don’t really have a choice anymore.

There really isn’t much left for housing anymore unless you want to live in an Apartment. The only place that is really available at the moment that is close to campus and isn’t an apartment is the Castilian and its almost full.

But yea we all should meet up for the July 15th orientation. Is anybody doing the overnight package where you pay 40 dollars more for orientation but you spend the night on campus at Jester (Which smells like **** btw) regardless I still decided to spend the night, should be fun.

Rejected for Chem Engineering.

Accepted to Natural Sciences, Chemistry.

Accepted to Nuclear Engineering at TAMU.

Howdy College Station!

GPA 3.42, 89 hrs, 3 LORs, 1000+ hrs community service.

Has anyone figured out how to order football tickets? I was admitted about two weeks ago and I still haven’t received a customer number and pin. Help!

@Texasgirl16 Are you still looking for someone to take your spot? I’d definitely be interested.

Just to let you guys i know, I just got admitted on an appeal!!

I was so excited earlier I literally teared up (no homo) lol
If UT is your dream school DO NOT give up at the first sign of rejection.
Good Luck to you all!

I’m looking to rent a house with a handful of roommates. any suggestions?

Sweet man! You going to orientation?

Also has anybody ever done the UTLA program?

I’m considering just going to the late orientation. I don’t want to pay for two trips to Austin in a month. I’m broke right now :p
