just successfully changed my orientation to the 11-12th of July from the 15-16th. Orientation slots do really open up in the morning. :)

When you register for classes there is an option you can pick where you can purchase the all sports package for $80.

Anybody going to transfer orientation on July 15th-16th?

I am going July 15/16th and staying in the dorms!

@jpgarcia6 Im staying in a hotel… have you seen the itinerary? it’s sooooo long and boring lol

Anyone going to live in the Castilian off-campus dorm? Im looking for a room-mate. Someone who would want to watch Walking dead and breaking bad with me. Thats my number 1 priority, I dont care if you’re insane, as long as you like the same shows I do.

You sound like the perfect roomie but I’m already set for Eden House!

Sup JP! Have you chosen a roommate for orientation yet?

Madison18

Oh cool, I live at the Castilian as well! I’m glad you’ll get to share in the experience with me of the wonders of the Castilian. From the random fire alarms that go off at 3am, to the ancient HVAC air conditioner that fails to work half the year, and finally the most remarkable experience of having the pipes burst and flood the rooms.

The Castilian is great due to the people you’ll meet. There is a great culture there and everybody is friendly to one another. The downside is that the building is literally falling apart.
(This is what a lot of my friends have told me that live there. I chose to live there due to the people there and the fact that the Callaway House was booked.)

All of this together should make for a wonderful college experience filled with excitement! Can’t wait. lol

Last time I posted here, I was ignored, which is okay. But now I need support! Please reply to me. I just finished a summer course and because I forgot to turn in an essay I will either receive a D of an F. I’m about to be a sophomore in college BTW. Anways, during the fall I received a C in a remedial class and a C in history (for again not submitting an essay in time). I feel like such an idiot! My dream school is UT Austin. At the moment, I am attending a community college. If I get a D, my GPA will be a 3.0. If I get an F, my GPA will be a 2.875. If I work my butt off and get straight As during this upcoming fall semester, I will be able to get around a 3.4 (whether I get an F of D). With simply a 3.4 and excellent essays, do you think I will be able to get into COLA or undergraduate studies? I’ve don’t have any job experience, volunteer experience, or extra curricular activities. PLEASE REPLY!

I think with one more semester at a 3.4, it would be tough without any extracurriculars, job, or volunteer experience. My advice would be to go two more semesters (meaning apply for transfer admission for your junior year) and try your absolute hardest for straight A’s both semesters. In that additional year, you would be doing yourself an enormous favor if you sought out some volunteer or job opportunities because UT considers stuff like that very heavily. That kind of stuff also looks good on a resume in general, not just for college, but for when potential employers are considering hiring you as well.

Thank you so much for replying! Honestly, I am crying my eyes out, but it’s my fault. I screwed up big time. You said I should apply during my junior year. Do you think I’ll have a chance if I apply in the fall then appeal and send in my spring transcript. By then, I should have straight As for 2 full semesters. I really want to get accepted into CNS, but I will be satisfied with getting into COLA! Grrr! I’m so stupid!!

Also, say I start volunteering and I manage to accumulate about 100 hours of volunteer service…will that help me?

Don’t want to down your hopes but I had a 3.95 with 42 hours of credits. I got a B in Cal 2. Anyhow, I was rejected for Petroleum Engineering but was accepted for Computer Science which is inside of CNS.
I asked around and the average entry level GPA into CNS is a 3.8 with strong essays that express leadership qualities. The average GPA to get into UGS which is Undergraduate Studies is 3.5-3.6

This would be a waste of time but if you REALLY want into UT you’ll need to do a reboot and attend a different community college with a fresh start. Once you hit 30 hours and have solid A’s… You’re in!

Thank for the advice, guys. I really appreciate it! I’m keeping my hopes up, but am I totally screwed? Like would applying then appealing be a total waste of money and time? Do you think I can get into A&M College Station? Also, I’m going to re-take the class that I’m going to get an F or D in and get an A (for sure). I hope that helps, although both grades will be factored into my GPA :/

No offense but if you’re getting Cs in remedial community college courses, UT Austin may be out of your reach. You may scrape in with a 3.4 GPA, but the minimum is usually 3.5.

Yeah and to robertrulez’s point if you are “forgetting” to turn in a major grade essay you might want to refocus your college plans. UT is going to be way harder than community college and even more so if you major in something very difficult.

UGS won’t really be an option since they only allow freshman and sophomores. By junior year you want to be in your major already since by then classes start getting restricted to majors. If you don’t make it into your major by your junior year you are pretty much screwed. A&M would be a little easier (again depends on your major).

@oatman Not yet man. Your the only person I know who is also going to orientation.

Funny story about me and oatman by the way. Turns out we both graduated from the same high school, went to the same community college, and actually work at the same exact Best Buy. In fact we have been working together for a while and just didn’t know who the other was on the forum. Small world!

BurntOrange,

If you can take some compressed wintermester courses and make As and combine this with a Summer Semester of As, you should have a 3.5ish which would make you a decent candidate for COLA, and depending on the major, CNS.

To tag on to what the others have said, you need to step up your study game and dedication. UT will absolutely rail you with coursework, and you don’t want to bring bad study habits with you, as a 2.0 GPA at UT isn’t desirable either.

Maybe you should look into talking to someone about possibly having some sort of disorder. You may or not not be aware that you could have ADD, ADHD, or even some form of dyslexia that causes you to constantly misread things. I say this based on the information you’ve provided.

@Robertrulez and jpgarcia6

I know I slacked off, but I also I know I can’t do that at UT or pretty much any university. Trust me, I learned my lesson! And that is a funny story! LOL

@propayne7
I am pretty sure I don’t have a disorder. I just tend to procrastinate a lot and it finally bit me in the butt, but I’ve learned my lesson

Anyways…If everything goes well, by the end of January I should finish with a 3.5 (exactly a 3.5), around 100 volunteer hours, excellent essays, and maybe 1 letter of recommendation. I will probably get denied, so I will appeal with a 3.61, around 175-200 volunteer hours, and again maybe 1 letter of recommendation.

1st choice- COLA psychology
2nd choice- CNS biology

So, what do you guys think about that?

Liberal Arts is generally the easiest to get into with the exception of Psychology. UT’s psychology program is top-ranked, so even UT students have to apply for admission to internal transfer into the program.

I’d recommend your second major choice be in Liberal Arts as well, based off of what I’ve stated above. The College of Natural Sciences is an open-college, and biology is something that you could transfer into should you choose to do so once you have been admitted into the university.

In fact, I’d choose Liberal Arts-Undeclared, or Liberal Arts-History, Government, etc. I don’t see why a 3.5 wouldn’t get you in if you wrote good essays. Maybe in these essays explain your bad grades and how these experiences have led to an increase in your determination. Why only 100 volunteer hours? If you are working while going to school, this is a good number, but if you aren’t working then you should be able to volunteer a little more. I’d recommend volunteering at places that are relevant to your major choices, such as volunteering in the mental health field. If you are working while attending school, make sure you put that down on your resume as well.

As I learned at my psychology department meeting during orientation last week, they only have about 1500 people in the psych department because it’s a restricted major, so propayne is definitely right about that.

What I can tell you though is that my transfer GPA was about a 3.46, and I still got accepted. (I actually finished with a 3.9 at ACC, but due to the way they calculate GPAs for admissions at UT, it was lowered during the admissions process.)However, I also work 20 hours a week while doing a full course load, got a great recommendation letter, and wrote fairly good essays.

It’s possible for you, but you’ll need to seriously step up your game. Retake the classes you bombed in and make A’s, so you can show you have the determination to fix your mistakes. Work on your time management skills (I personally use Google calendar with text reminders to my phone so I never forget anything). And whatever you do, MAKE A’s IN ALL YOUR PSYCHOLOGY CLASSES. If you make a B in something that isn’t major related, it’ll suck, but it’s not that big of a deal if it’s only one or two B’s. But if you can’t even make A’s in your psych classes, you’ll have a really hard time convincing them you care about the major.

Anyways, just my two cents. Good luck to ya!
