BurntOrangeLuv,
I got in with 3.44 and 34 credit hours. My 2 essays were not the best essays honestly however, I did get two recommendations from a professor and my boss which might have helped. I’ve seen a LOT of 3.4 gpa’s getting accepted to UT and my friend also got accepted with 3.33, crappy essays, and no recommendations into education. Honestly I believe its just all based on how you appeal to the school and one big aspect of their reviews are POSITIVE TREND. If you come out these next semesters with all A’s, they will see that you are capable and will not disregard you for your past mistakes. Also have confidence! Don’t try to look too far out in the future and aim for it right away! And when taking your classes in community college, seriously no joke… ya need to suck up to your professors! My freshman year at ACC I had a 87 but i literally begged her the last day before grades were submitted and she bumped it up to a 90 which got me the A, which ALSO got me into UT! Small things really affects your life and you need to take advantage of it!
Anyways that’s it for me, might not have been the best advice but I really hope you get something out of this!

What’s the average for people that apply for Government or Economics?

Everyone, thank you so much! I never expected this much advice. It really means a lot to me that everyone who replied to me took time out of their day to do so, so thank you so much!! I’ll take everything into consideration.

Now, I just have one more question. How easy/difficult is it to internally transfer to CNS from COLA? And while I’m in COLA, can I take science classes offered by CNS?

CNS is more difficult to get into than COLA however an internal transfer won’t be as bad as long as you can maintain around a 3.7-3.8GPA. Also you can take CNS Science courses as long as they are entry level and that those courses don’t become easily wait listed. Basically you can enroll in them but if the classes fill up and a CNS major wants to get in the class you’ll get kicked out.

You can take entry-level CNS courses as stated by oatman, however, maintaining a 3.7-3.8 GPA is not important. Nothing stops you from getting a 2.5 and changing your major to the basic natural science majors (Physics, Chem, Math, CS).

Most entry-level CNS courses are going to be offered in multiple 150+ student sections, so if you are wanting to take Chem, Physics, etc, you won’t have to worry about getting kicked out of the class. Once you get in to upper division, however, There will be certain seats reserved for CNS students. It is on the very rare occasion that you will get “bumped” because there someone with a CNS major wants in the class.

Source: I got admitted into UT as a Computer Science major, switched to an Economics and Actuarial Science Double Major. Now I am an Economics-Honors and Accounting Double Major.

Okay cool! Thanks again. Good luck with your studies :)

Im going to orientation on the 15th and 16th… do I need to bring anything specific, other then ID?

Madison, that’s all you’re really required to bring unless you’re staying in the dorms. If you’re staying in the dorms, here’s the list of stuff you’ll need: http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/nss/downloads/WhereToGoSummerOFRS2013.pdf

Also, based on my experience from a couple of weeks ago, I’d strongly recommend you wear comfy walking shoes, and bring sunblock and a water bottle. It’s a whole lot of walking during the hottest parts of the day, so you’ll want to keep from getting sunburned and dehydrated.

Couldn’t hurt to bring snacks or something either (like granola bars). Depending on which appointments you need to go to, you might not get much of a chance to eat some food.

Hey poetics, do you know if family members are welcome on campus? As far as I can tell there’s no family orientation for transfer sessions, but I’d really like my mom to come with me. I know there are some sessions where it’s students only but I don’t want her to get kicked out of campus.

My Mom is coming with me as well but I don’t know what she will do while in Austin other than talking with a financial aid adviser.

Well, to tell you the truth, I’m 24 and I already live in Austin…I had no reason to bring either of my parents, so I didn’t ask. I did see a few parents there in the morning at check-in, but I don’t know what they did the rest of the day.

They won’t boot her off campus as far as I know, but there won’t be much for her to do either. Orientation starts early and ends late in the evening. It wouldn’t be very cool to make her to sit around Jester Center for nearly 12 hours, so if you’re going to do that, maybe find her something to do? Maybe she could go to the Blanton to see the art or check out some of the other cool things on campus/around Austin while you do other things.

Quick question on the ALEKS math exam for CNS Majors do we only have to take it online or do we have to take it again on campus to confirm we did not cheat?

Are any of you guys reapplying for the Spring admission?

I’m interested in applying to UT Austin next year for Aerospace engineering and I’m wondering if someone could chance me :), or give me general pointers.

So far in math I’ve taken up to Calc : A in precalc, B in calc 1, and B in calc 2.
Sciences: Took astronomy but it didn’t feel like science class to me, so I’m taking physics(mechanics and heat) next semester.

Programming : Took Programming fundamentals since I was going for computer science since I enjoy programming but had a change of heart, I got As in Programming fundamentals one and two if that means anything.

Other Core Classes: Got A’s and B’s on them, mostly A’s

Extra curricular activities: Freshmen Orientation, PTK, Astronomy club, Tutor Math

Overall I have a 3.6 GPA, I plan for it to be around a 3.7 at the end of the fall semester before applying in the spring(for the fall).

So could anyone chance me please?

Also one last question, will UT look into my spring semester grades after I’ve already sent my application for the fall? If yes then more power to me since I could even bring my GPA to a 3.8 with some good effort
By getting an A in differential Equations and Physics 2.

@lonestar3 - You will probably have your application turned in at the start of your senior year so your senior year fall and spring grades won’t matter. The rigor of those senior courses will be known to UT by your high school transcript.

It’s hard to chance without knowing your state of residence, class rank, course rigor and high school profile.

It appears Lonestar is in college. Differential Equations is a college level class.

Yeah I’m attening lonestar college, I’m not a highschool applicant, I’m a transfer one, sorry if there was any confusion XD

You go to Lonestar? I’m so sorry…

Man I’m sure as hell happy to be out of that place.

jp did u get into UT?

Not sure why you guys hate Lone Star so much. Besides the tidbits of frustrations I’ve had with them, because of specific circumstances, it’s a great school.
