Yeah I got in. I only got into UGS though because my GPA was only a 3.56. I made As in every class with the exception of two Bs but my GPA was low due to dual credit classes I took in high school.

Also Lonestar is the same exact thing as high school pretty much.

I’m at orientation right now and I received an email last night before the session started. Also, prepare to be bored, informed of stuff you probably already know, and very hot (bring a water bottle). You’ll probably have a lot of free time as well. The program scheduling is pretty loose. I got out of the meeting for my major about two hours ago and I’m sitting here in Wendy’s until my wing meeting at 6 when I can go home until I have my advising appointment tomorrow at 8:30 in the morning. As expected, a lot of the information you receive will be about course registration, and if you’ve done any poking around on the course schedule website and UT direct, you’ll already know the stuff they’re telling you.

Is orientation required for transfers? I don’t want to spend 6 hours driving up to Austin and back just to hear stuff I already know… I’m meeting with an academic adviser tomorrow because the only orientation I’d be able to go to is the one at the end of August and I don’t want to wait that long to register for classes.

Orientation is absolutely required. If you check your registration website on UT Direct you’ll see that you have a BAR that will prevent you from registering for classes. It will say something along the lines of “Advising Bar”.
You need to get your UTEID Upgraded before school starts. You also have to get the bar lifted for advising. Plus you need to get your student ID.

Does anyone know how to set up your McCombs email? The technology orientation was not very helpful at all. How do you set up your password for the email and where do you go to login?

Oatman I already got my student ID. I was at UT today talking to an adviser (a different lady incorrectly told me I could sign up for classes) and she said my registration date was set for the 23rd of August and I could do it online. If I remember the dates correctly, late summer orientation is the same weekend as my move in date for where I’m staying, so I need to do that. That’s why I’m asking if I don’t have to go to orientation. If what she told me is correct, then I guess I can sign up for my classes online the week before school starts? I know what classes I need to take already. I’m hoping she was correct, because the last lady I talked to sure wasn’t.

We meet at the Beauford H. Jester Center. Parking is at the Brazos Garage, there will be signs and orientation advisors to direct you to the checkin. Check-In is between 9:30-10:30 AM tomorrow, no exceptions.

There are multiple Jesters but we check in at the primary one. Download the mobile app on your iPhone called, “UTAustin NSS”. Don’t forget to bring your ID and about $20 in cash… This should cover your student ID cost and any other various charges (aside from food, living, or parking expenses).

just a tip to those who are about to register…just about all the seats and classes are closed and full. Mostly just scrap classes and seats in the worst professors for classes are left. Most of the wait list are full or restricted…Btw i had orientation for transfers friday.

Also, a lot of spots will open up on August 14th (tuition payment deadline) and as classes begin because students will drop out of the courses. A friend that currently goes to UT tells me to not worry about getting into classes right now because spots do open up, so we’ll all see.

When I went to orientation I was signing up for all business classes and they were all closed before registration. But right when registration started all of them opened up. So it just depends on what class your trying to get. Before registration the course schedule may not be accurate. They hold classes for students during orientation.
