2014 Applicants

Go ahead and post here.

I’ve applied. Wooh, who knew being the first post could be so…lonely…

I applied RD
I already live in Atlanta so Im reallllly excited!

I can only pray that I’m gonna be part of 2014.

Hello. Im a senior student trying to apply to college. Tomorrow is the deadline for most colleges. But idk where apply.
I came from Cuba at the end of 9th grade and i was placed in ESL ( English Second Language classes until 11 grade.
Right now I have 4.0 ( unweighted GPA) AND 5.0 ( Weighted gpa)
My SAT scores are not that high. just 1760
M 620
R 530
W 610
Im first generation going to college and my family has a low income
I was an actress in Cuba and i have 400 community hours.
I had also won a lot of awards.
I am a resident in Florida and i want to apply to private outstate universities.
WHERE SHOULD I APPLY?
I want to major in biology

^End of 9th grade… So you’ve become fluent in English over the summer (2-3 months) and was able to pull off straight As in sophmore year taking the most challenging classes.

What are you, a linguistic prodigy? Came here at the end of 9th grade in ESL and somehow pulls off 5.0 despite language problems? You know that AP courses require a good understanding of english right?

Uhh, don’t major in Biology.

Major in 20 different languages. People would take 4 years of Spanish/French in high school just to become decent. You only took a few months to speak english better than most Americans.

…Prodigy…Or B.S.

it is not prodigity. i had to work hard to maintain my gpa

it is not prodigy*

Hard work alone does not overcome the fact that you were largely disadvantaged by your lack of background in the english language. Very, very few people can pull off what you just did: getting a 5.0 going into your senior year with only 2 years of english exposure overall, and a lot fewer years when you were going through your sophmore and junior year. How does this not prove that you’re a linguistic prodigy? Forget that, you’re an ACADEMIC prodigy.

Apply to Harvard.

But I think you’re BSing so…

Apply to ■■■■■ University instead.

notice that melin had to think for an hour to come up with that ■■■■■ University joke.

lol…

^Dude, I tried my best to believe him but in the end I just couldn’t do it. And, no, it didn’t take me an hour. I was at Walmart buying a bunch of coke and ice. I came back and decided to pour the coke and ice on him. It wasn’t that hard of a joke to come up with.

Yeah, sometimes it’s a complete waste of time to try to understand people and put yourself in their shoes. And Dale Carnegie left this part out in his book apparently.

Look at what he said in one of the threads he made:

hello… im a senior right now and i applied to Uf. i really want to go there but my SAT scores are not good at all…
Right now I have a composite score of 1760
My unweighted GPA is 4.0
My weighted GPA IS 5.0
I HAVE BEEN TAKEN SEVERAL AP CLASSES

IDK if the unv is going to see that. I took esol classes until 10th grade. </however>

Apparently nobody believed him in the UF application thread either.

Dale Carnegie?

^He’s the guy who wrote “How to Make Friends and Influence People.” One of the things he points out is that everyone has so much stuff you don’t know about that, in the end, it’s best not to criticize them unless you understand exactly what he or they went through. He uses Abraham Lincoln extensively to support this…

If you’re curious: Dale Carnegie (CARnegee) and that super-rich-but-super-generous ■■■■■■■ Andrew Carnegie (carNAYgee) were distant cousins. Difference is that Dale Carnegie became an expert in understanding human relations and contributed tremendously in that field while Andrew Carnegie was the richest man in America who gave a bunch of money to what become the Carnegie Mellon University. D. Carnegie makes frequent references of A. Carnegie’s genius human relationship skills in the book, though, so I guess you could say A. Carnegie was more successful.

Oh man am I anxiously awaiting February. I applied Early Decision II to Emory. Is anybody else planning to major in political science? If so, do you know enough background about the major to tell me if I should co-major some form of linguistics, or just minor in it?

I applied RD.
1200 composite (CR was 560?), 1800 total.
3.5 Unweighted GPA with All AP’s/Honor’s and Advanced Courses.
Was a member of a Medical Science Academy during freshman year, and Engineering Academy sophomore year (both academies were additional courses taken as electives, and by competitive application only)
I now do a distance learning curriculum through an online private high school, and did so my Junior year as well

Extra-C’s:
Robotic’s Club
Technology Students of America
Health Occupation Students of America
Several JROTC Clubs (commander in one, co-commander in another)
Founded a Non-Profit Organization that advocates for educational improvements.

Work:
Intern at a law firm for several months

Awards:
Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Award from the Secretary of Defense (Still have no clue what for, but it was great being invited to a dinner with the Freemasons =D)

Demographics:
Raised by and live with single Father
Dad is a Doctor (MBBS) that no longer practices medicine nor surgery, so education is rooted in my Indian(asian) family…
Currently residing in Houston, Texas

I participated in the interview conducted in Houston by Emory Alumni, as well as toured the Emory Campus and spoke with an Assistant Dean Last week

Also did not apply for Fin. Aid nor Scholarships.

I would be inclined to think I would be denied out-front, but as my application is thoroughly complex, I am desperately awaiting my decision! Ughhhh =(
To make matters worse, Emory is my #1 choice and my Scores/GPA are relatively WEAK! ■■■.

I applied RD, too.
3.75 GPA unweighted
1460 SAT, 2200 including writing

Emory’s my #1, so I have my fingers crossed! Getting rejected from WashU today was disappointing, though expected. Good luck to everyone that applies!

@2010cc how does a person w/ ur stats expect to get rejected by WashU??? you should be one of the students at their most wanted list!!

GPA is the problem, in my opinion. I’ve known plenty of people with a 4.0 UW and 4.6 Weighted get wait-listed while others with lower GPA get in. It’s all about who they are looking for and what they want as a class of 2014.

GPA is overrated. I attend a school that graduates between 15-20 4.0s (UW) every year. And there are only usually one or two NMFs. It doesn’t make sense.
