So what’s the verdict on those TAG accepted that currently have a little less than a 3.5? Will they be rejected? I can only SIR to one campus so I don’t want to do it to one that I will soon be rejected from.

Anyone hear back from waitlist???

@Zanguilf We are not going to get a decision until late June.

@Edzioe‌ I actually visited the campus and talked to their admissions officer on call, as well as call my regional admissions officer and I keep getting mixed answers. My regional admissions officer pulled up my current transcript on file as well as the grades I received, spoke to another officer and told me that I would be cancelled sitting at a 3.4 GPA. When I walked in, and described my situation, the officer told me that they still need to see how many kids accept their offers and from there determine how low the cutoff gpa for all students will be who violate contracts. Last year, it was 3.48, and it will likely be the same this year unless less students take their offers. Hope that helps!

@Marmaneous I don’t think that GPA cutoff is right. Several people in here stated they got into UCSD off the waitlist with a 3.3 GPA.

@Marmaneous‌
I can’t predict the waitlist gpa cutoff for this fall, but I can tell you for sure that your information for the waitlist gpa cutoff for 2013 (3.48) is inaccurate. I personally knew a very close and credible friend who got pulled off the waitlist with a 3.3 for UCSD econ. So according to your 3.48 she would not have made the cut.

I would strongly advise ppl to look at the 2013 transfer ucsd waitlist thread. There are ppl with 3.1-3.28 to 3.3s that got accepted. So no way in hell is the gpa cut off 3.48 magically this year. If that’s the case a crap load of us won’t get in. Therefore ucsd would be unable to fill all empty spaces…no way is it a 3.48 as the cut off. Like I said, do not worry I’m super sure alot of us will get in. A lot of ppl are choosing Berkeley, ucla, and even usc over ucsd…of course they say ucsd is a phenomenal elite institution so going to ucsd isn’t much different from ucla in my honest opinion. So stay calm ppl and just wait for your acceptance!

Maybe I should clarify; I was not talking about the waitlist cutoff GPA. There is a separate batch of students (one that we fall into) of those who violated a part of their admission contract. What I was told was those batch of students would still be admitted without a doubt if they still had a 3.48 GPA. That GPA was determined last year, but that cutoff GPA could change this year based on how many kids take up their admission offer. Hope that helps!

@Marmaneous‌ Got it.
Also, could you clarify “violated a part of their admission contract.”? How does one violate an admission contract? Thanks.

@darren808 - All UC’s offer acceptances on a conditional basis, that you have a certain GPA after the Spring semester both cumulative and semester GPA count, so if someone got less than the semester or cumulative GPA the campus asked them to get in their offer of acceptance it would be in violation of their admission contract.

I think they were specifically talking about the TAG agreement. People who didn’t make the 3.5 cutoff, had their TAG revoked and they got added to the waitlist. Last year, TAG people with a 3.48 were accepted off the waitlist. TAG people with lower than 3.48 we’re put into the waitlist pool with everyone. Some got in, and some didn’t.

@2016Candles‌ I don’t think they meant under 3.48 students go into the waitlist, because they do not request a personal statement response like regular waitlist students submit. I just think before they go to the waitlist, they see what gpa cutoff they will accept based on how many students go to ucsd this fall.

Waitlisted, then accepted (June 4, 2014).
Major: Chemistry
GPA: 3.5
Accepted: UCD, UCI, UCSB, UCSD
Rejected: UCB, UCLA, UCSC
Best of luck to everyone!

@fieldisrequired‌ A lot of people I have been hearing about were rejected than later accepted. Are you a foreign student? It seems like they already determined how many they can accept from the amount of people that SIR’ed

@Edzioe I just called my regional admissions rep and they just determined the cutoff GPA this year. She didn’t tell me the number but she said that I didn’t make the cutoff and should appeal once they officially send it out. I had a 3.4 exactly. Best of luck, hope you make it! Talk to their admissions office and ask.

@Marmaneous I highly doubt that is the cut off point. Someone on this thread got in with a GPA of 3.3X

I seriously doubt a UCSD rep would lie about something like that haha but it’s possible. I think maybe the waitlist goes by GPA, whereas actual admission goes by GPA + courses finished.

@Marmaneous Someone on this thread called the UCSD admission office, and asked when they would release the waitlist decisions, the admission department said late June, and the very next day UCSD release the first batch of decisions. That administrator probably wasn’t lying, she was probably just misinformed . Ms.Sun stated that waitlist goes by GPA and the academic perpetration. Don’t get down.

Hey, this may be a little late, but I remember that a lady I talked to like a couple weeks back said that the cut off GPA last year was “really low” / “pretty low” / “very low” (I forgot her exact words). She said that it was 3.135 (Yes, she gave it up to 3 decimal places). I am not sure if that’s correct because a couple days later, someone posted that the cut-off was 3.3. However, from what I can remember, I heard 3.135. I’m also starting to remember that she put me on hold before she told me that GPA.

I called back a couple days later to try to confirm if I heard correctly, but a different person answered and said that he/she didn’t know. Because of that, I thought I didn’t have enough evidence to post here on college confidential. But, since many people are trying to figure out the cut-off GPA, I decided, I’ll just post anyway (just don’t rely on my post too much – maybe I did hear 3.315 instead of 3.135.
