A few comments I want respond to. First of all, a question about my company:
The app allows you to access people who are not on the app through text or email anonymously so you can get them on the app and see what they think of you!
Secondly, now that Endevvr is at UPenn (Wharton?!), it is at an equally selective university and has equally fantastic resources. I have also heard from Launch kids that they don’t always have full access to MIT’s resources.
I think the most important thing about the programs is not where you get into, but what you do there. As can be seen with Landme and Uscan and Social Synergy Media, we built on our successes to build something bigger. It is all about what you do with your oppertunties.
When I was thinking about where to go here was the debate: Launch? More prestigious university (at the time), larger program, but that was it! It would have been a fantastic summer opportunity but then I would move on. Endevvr on the other hand sets up the foundation for you to do something bigger. It all depends on whether you want a one summer “fling” or continued success. You decide.
Just accepted to Endevvr! I cannot commit right now because I would prefer to hear back from every single major program I applied to, but the deadline is March 1st. @Slurye do you know if there’s any flexibility on this deadline?
Just my few cents here. Before I begin, Launch and Endevvr are both amazing programs. Getting into either of them is awesome!
Now, here is my “research.” During my interview with Mr. Miller (Endevvr) a few weeks ago, I asked him the questions:
1)Why do you guys shift from area to area every year (Boston --> Atlanta --> Wharton)?
2)Is Endevvr directly linked with UPenn this year?
Responses:
Endevvr moves around a lot because they think it is beneficial to appeal to more crowds. By staying as an independent camp, they can go to New England and the South and now the “Mideast.” What this does it that it enlarges the young entrepreneurial community, but at the same strengthening it as well with the use of various facilites
Endevvr is not directly linked with UPenn or any other university, and that’s what makes them unique. Mr. Miller explained that once a camp establishes itself with a university, the process becomes tedious. One application/idea has to go through many different hands (I think of it as kinda like the Executive Bureaucracy - might be stretching it a little, but you get my point). If a camp stays independent, not only can it explore different areas annually, but is also not restricted by the rather narrow bounds set by the “parent” University. The camp can bring in different people, explore different things, etc.
So, while Launch holds the “MIT brand name” which in itself prestigious, Endevvr has the independent and unique aspect that sets it apart in a different way. Both are really good, and both have their pros and cons. Good luck to everyone who applied!
@Woandering I also got accepted to Endevvr today! The March 1st deadline is kinda soon for me too lol, because I have applied to a couple of other camps which don’t give their responses for a quite a while. Anyways, Endevvr is my first choice, because it’s the longest one and with only 20 or so students it, I feel like I will get the most out of it.
@TheDesiBoy
There’s one other program that I applied for that is super cool, and it can be combined with MIT Launch in one summer. While I think Endevvr is better than MIT Launch by itself, MIT Launch with this other program beats Endevvr IMO. That’s why I want to wait, but I emailed Launch and the other program to see if they can make a decision soon (both are late Feb and early March anyway), so hopefully I can make a good decision with everything I need to know.
@TheDesiBoy @Slurye
Is it really true that there’s only 20 participants? How many are from the early round? That’s a series of incredibly hard decisions to make for Mr. Miller.
@Woandering Last year there were 20 or so students. Mr. Miller said that Endevvr was in no mood to expand in numbers too much this year because he wants to maintain the individual quality each student receives.
I can only assume about a third of them come from early admissions.
Hi everyone. Im new to this thread but I’ve been following it for a while. I also just got accepted to Endevvr and I’m really excited. I also applied to Launch and did an interview about two weeks ago but still haven’t heard back. Is that a bad sign or do they just take longer to decide.
@imakeapps05 Congrats on Endevvr! Also, I am assuming since Launch is directly with MIT and not independent, they probably take a little longer to give a response.
Sup everyone who got into Endevvr. Congrats! I wanna do some pre-program networking. Pm me also if you’re not sure about attending so I can try to convince you lol
Actually, I just looked at my email and it looks like I got a interview invite about 3 weeks after I submitted my application. Some people might be done with interviews already if they applied earlier.
Congrats to everyone who got into Endevvr! not only will you have the best summer of your lives, I promise that you will have the BEST possible groundwork to set you up for making a sustainable company. I am very excited for y’all, you will make life long mentors in Martin and Mary Winn and I assure you that with the right ambition, you well be one of the most successful teenagers in no time. I hope to see everyone this summer at Endevvr!
Wow this has become quite the debate of Launch vs. Endevvr. Rather than add fuel to the flame, I’m just gonna say that I really think you guys are overvaluing the significance of the differential between the offerings of these two programs. Ultimately your success as an entrepreneur is going to be your own drive to create a company and follow through with it. Both programs are going to give you the support that you need and will do their part to help you, so whether you want a “fling” or “continued” success (quoting @Slurye) is not so much a matter of the program that you attend, but your own motivation as an entrepreneur. I also see little value in the “prestige” of the program. Especially for an entrepreneurship program, the accomplishments that you have will always trump the brand name of the place where you were educated, and it is unfortunate that many high schoolers have been so conditioned to not realize this (See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii1jcLg-eIQ#t=497)
What I will say is this. The single biggest reason to attend these programs is the people that you will meet and the connections that you will make. Choose the program where you think you will meet the brightest people, where you can find co-founders that will help make your goals a reality. My own judgement call was that in this specific area Launch > Endevvr, just in terms of the selectivity of the program. I could be entirely wrong-- in fact its possible that the prestige of it being affiliated with MIT might attract people who are more extrinsically motivated than Endevvr students, but nevertheless I’m happy with my decision.
HI all! I am new here and wish I had stumbled upon this thread before applying to Launch! I applied in regular admissions so not expecting to hear back anytime soon. I was wondering if anyone who had an interview might be willing to expand a bit on how it went, i.e. the types of topics focussed on, length etc. Any info would be great!!
Congratulations to you all on pursuing entrepreneurship! I wish you all the best of luck for your ideas, ventures, and summer plans.
My biggest piece of advice ( @redatheart )? Keep trying for Launch, but APPLY TO ENDEVVR!
Endevvr was not only the best summer of my life, but the best educational experience I’ve ever had. Compared to Launch, it may not seem like much of a difference of 4 vs 5 weeks, large vs small class size, mentor availability, etc. to you right now, but those are the key factors for developing successful companies still in operation today. Since Endevvr has a longer, more individualized and focused curriculum in addition to a top-notch network of mentors (in EVERY city- you will have many a Skype session!) I believe that if you are truly interested in meeting driven high school entrepreneurs, learning an incredible amount about business and creating your own company (can be successful once the summer is over), Endevvr is the way to go.
There are still a few weeks until the Endevvr app is due. Plus, it never hurts to have options!
For either program, stay true to your passions, both in the interview process and once you get to work!
@imakeapps05 and @ everyone else who also got accepted into Endevvr, congrats!
For a while I thought I had been rejected since I didn’t get an email, but it turns out there was a server error and I was. Anyway I just wanted to ask if anyone knows about the decision date of Launch, since I also had an interview a while back but haven’t heard from them yet.
Congrats to all who got accepted to either Launch or Endevvr. I would appreciate if some of you can put your stats here so others can get an idea. I have seen @Nerdboy98 stats, but would like to see others too. Thanks
Hey guys, I’ve been lurking for a while but I got offered an interview for Launch.
@nerdboy98@orangebananapeel could you guys or anyone else who had an interview with Launch give me some insight to what the interview was like? What were some of the things they asked for?
