2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

I got that same email this evening (8:46PM) - “Don’t Miss Out On 2016-2017 Financial Aid for Transfer Students!”
I applied already. So I guess this email went out to every transfer students whether they applied or not.

@BIMguy I have a 3.6 when I applied and now it’ll be a 3.8 after submitting my spring grade. Thanks! I hope I hear back soon! Really nervous right now. I only have 34 transferable units and idk if that looks bad to have little units or not.

@ivrule really? I think it’s for only transfer students who didn’t apply. I applied for financial aid and I didn’t get that email.

@ohwiseone are you a junior transfer? if you are don’t worry too much! You’ll probably hear back end of may or near june. Most junior transfers usually don’t get SGR, unless you are taking prereq classes this spring semester.

@pomeranian4rich no I’m a sophomore transfer, I just didn’t have such a great GPA 1st sem cause I got a 3.1, but I boosted it to a 3.5 this 2nd sem, so I guess I’ll just keep waiting, but thanks for the positivity!

@pomeranian4rich I am a sophomore

I didn’t get a financial aid email :frowning: but I applied months ago and sent in all my docs so I figure that’s why.

@masechka1988 You’ll probably get a SGR soon since you’re a sophomore! Got mine last week and my GPA(3.6 )was a bit lower than yours. Are you taking any prereq like accounting or calculus in the spring?

I’m an accepted transfer student, flying out to USC tomorrow to tour it! I already committed

@pomeranian4rich This wait is the worst…I am worried that a lot of people already have heard from Marshall and I heard nothing. I have Calc1 completed, and now I am taking Business Calc. My school could not figure out if USC wants Calc 1 or Calc 2 to transfer. My problem is that even though I have pretty high GPA, I also have a lot of Ws. And as I have heard USC doesn’t like Ws. However, I explained all of them in my personal statement.

Just found out about this thread and I’m glad I’m not the only one who still hasn’t heard back from SC. I’m a junior transfer from Santa Monica College where I racked up over 60 units with a 3.6. I applied to Marshall for business and Dorsnife for Economics as a back up! Still haven’t heard from either school.

Hey guys, I was starting to get really nervous about not hearing from USC yet but I checked out the USC transfer decision thread from last year and I feel so much better! It seems like there were a ton of people who were accepted in the last few day of May. Good luck everyone!

Would any of the accepted transfers still looking for housing be willing to maybe post their bios on an alternative thread? I’m trying to find a roommate but I’d love to make some transfer friends (:

Also hang in there everyone who hasn’t heard back yet, I hit a new low when I checked my portal multiple times a day, but I believe in you all.

Still nothing here… No SGR. Last OASIS restriction change was from 5/2.

I don’t know why I’d get an SGR since I’m not completing any pre-reqs…
Getting worried now.

@pomeranian4rich I am 90% sure that as long as you have over 30 units for a sophomore transfer, it’s okay.

@AIS562 Don’t worry yet, as someone said before… people were getting accepted as late as end of May and beginning of June (if they didn’t receive SGRs). Stay positive and/or contact your admissions counselor to ask if they need anything!

The area around USC is bad depending on where you’re going. If you’re going north of USC towards like mid city, koreatown, DTLA/staples center, towards the 110, it’s not going to be the prettiest sight but it’s far from a bad area. Yes there’s homeless people, but you don’t really need to worry about them too much. If you go south of USC, you’re in south central, which is definitely not a safe area-- known for tons of gang violence, shootings, etc. Around the actual USC campus it’s generally really safe because USC is huge on safety, I’m pretty sure they actually have gates to get in and out of the campus. They really have a lot of other safety measures in place too, they take good care of their students. UCLA might have the upper hand on aesthetics and neighborhood (westwood is a very very upperclass neighborhood), but personally DTLA is my favorite part of LA. I love the city feel and it’s having a huuuge renaissance right now and getting tons of new culture, stores, etc. in a few years it’ll definitely boom into the next best neighborhood.

@collegegirlUSC I applied for the english major!

Hello everyone I’ve been lurking for awhile but for anyone waiting on Viterbi I think they’re finally getting around to everyone. I just got an SGR (Electrical Engineering). My stats are: 3.45 GPA (old grades, current trend aka last two years I have a 3.75), A in calc 1, A in calc 2, A in General Chem, taking my first semester of calc-based physics this semester. Fortunately I’m looking like a 4.0 for this spring (Calc 3 is the only borderline), unfortunately my semester doesn’t end until june 6th :frowning:

@PickleSituations I have a 3.6 too and applied to Marshall. They didn’t ask for an SGR?
