2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

Oh

@zettasyntax after reading what you said about how admission counselor may have a bigger role about your decision, I think you’re somewhat right lol. I emailed my counselor near late April for the first time asking about sending in my spring grade even though I didn’t get a SGR yet. she told me not to send it unless I was asked for one. And a week later that was when I received a SGR lol. Not sure if that was a coincidence but I hope it’s a good thing if she personally requested a SGR from me !

I’ve also told my counselor my spring term was ending next week, and that’s probably why I got a SGR on that week. coincidence? lol

@zettasyntax who’s your counselor and how did you find such threads lol

I looked up my counselor and he actually revealed what he and the other admissions counselors look for in an applicant. He stated that grades are number one, with letter of reccomendations next, and essays following.

It could be different depending on the counselor, I’m guessing. But I also feel that the points he mentioned can be different depending on the person.

@BIMguy I emailed her yesterday. Waiting for her response

@USCTrojan031494 No they didn’t. I’m a junior applicant and I had already completed all the prereqs at my CSU

@John6311 My counselor was Rakin Hall :stuck_out_tongue:

@pomeranian4rich There’s actually a lot of little coincidences I think! I remember a recent poster on here saying he called the admissions office saying he needed to meet a deadline with another school and several days later, he got his decision. I thought that was interesting because a very similar thing happened to me my second go-around :stuck_out_tongue: Maybe calling them does actually help them remember you and speed things up slightly in terms of getting your SGR/other decision? Even if it’s all just be a coincidence for everybody, it’s worth a shot :stuck_out_tongue:

I just googled “Rakin Hall college confidential” and clicked on random threads. One thread had his name and a post saying that there are rumors he’s the strictest when it comes to SGRs. :stuck_out_tongue:

@John6311 Actually, it was on my documents tab a few months ago when I first applied. Then it disappeared and never reappeared. As of now, it’s not listed there.

Like I’ve said before, i’m transfer from a 4-year university and I have plans to study abroad in the summer at a pretty well-respected program (London School of Economics.) Should I email my counselor and let them know that?

Anyone with Kenley Turville as there counselor get an acceptance/rejection yet? Still waiting for a decision.

Hey guys, so I just woke up to an email from USC financial aid stating that my financial aid been updated and I go checked on FAST and now it has listed “Transfer Presidential Scholarship” under scholarships. Did I just win a scholarship? Im still sleepy so I can be reading it wrong right now.

Did your Yousc portal not update with “Accepted” before you received your packet in the mail?

@sdaw27 Did your Yousc portal not update with “Accepted” before you received your packet in the mail?

@ckinder My portal just updated today, a day after I received my acceptance. Meaning it doesn’t update until you receive your packet in the mail.

I’m not sure if anyone else has found this, but this link offers a little insight on every admissions director at USC: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/counselors/counselorprofiles.html

@ProfessorX5 Yes, you did!!! Congratulations!!! I also woke up to hear one of the best news a mom could hear on her birthday. My son also got the Transfer Presidential Scholarship!

Is the Transfer Presidential Scholarship the 25% tuition scholarship? (I haven’t reviewed all of the available scholarships available to transfer students)

@NosyParent16 No, it is the 50% tuition scholarship.

@triviummom Wow!!! That is a great birthday present. Happy Birthday!!

@NosyParent16 Thank you very much!!!
