@chunkymonkeydude I’m still waiting on Marshall too. International student. No SGR. 80+ units from a CCC, GPA3.6. Received 2 pretty good letters of recommendation. One from an accounting firm director that I interned for; one from Angola consulate who I worked for in a summer job. Sigh… it’s killing me every morning when I checked my mail Any accepted or still waiting marshall applicant wanna share something or advice?
same here still waiting for marshall, junior transfer, no sgr, and has 3.9 gpa
@dominicklee30 I am from ccc as well. 3.8 gpa, lots of ec, average essays, no letter or rec and 6 w’s. 60+ units done, all major prerequisites completed and still need 1 GE. I check portal every hour, USC is my dream school. Best of luck to you
I got accepted into Dornsife for the Spring 2017… Not what I was expecting but better than nothing. Do any of you guys know if housing allows me to apply for the spring semester only or if any apartments such as Lorenzo allow for Spring? Good luck to everyone else!
Hey guys! I’m an incoming sophomore transfer for Marshall and I received a SGR.
My first semester GPA was 3.567 and my second semester GPA was 3.611, so an overall of 3.591.
I know these GPAs are below the average GPA for Marshall transfers, but do you think USC will take note that I got an A in all my classes that would transfer over? (Calculus, Writing, and a Science course) The other courses where I got A-/B+ in will not transfer over to USC, so I was hoping I still had a chance!
@shimeeshimee what major and are you a junior or sophomore transfer and did you receive an SGR
@John6311 Biological Science as a sophomore transfer. I received an SGR three weeks ago and submitted it two weeks ago via yousc portal.
@shimeeshimee what were your stats if you don’t mind me asking
Have there been any decisions besides the sporadic acceptance? - i.e. any rejections yet?
I hate to be a buzz kill, especially for anyone banking on their EC’s to help get them in, but when I asked my regional admissions counselor if EC’s play a big role in the review process, she actually said that they don’t even look at EC’s when reviewing apps.
@penntousc I doubt it that they don’t pay attention at EC’s at all. May be if the applicant has a perfect GPA (4.0), they will not even look at EC’s, but when the GPA a bit below the average, EC’s may play a good role in the process of the application.
Mine is opposite, I don’t have a lot of EC’s so I am a little worried about it. But I have a family and 2 babies.
@masechka1988 it could be different for all admissions counselors, but when I asked how much of a role EC’s play in the admissions process, she said “We do not weigh it at all in our transfer admission process. Our decisions are made based on coursework and college success.”
But like you said, if the grades really are below par, there’s definitely the possibility that they do take a look.
@penntousc what is your major?
@ucsborusc It’s no problem Actually yeah, I think the first estimate they give is incredibly accurate to what you end up getting
There might be a small change here or there (I remember a small grant FSEOG or something, appearing much later on), but otherwise, it’s pretty much what you see is what you get. So if you don’t like it, make sure to appeal; appeals usually seem to be somewhat successful
@topchoiceschool It would be nice if USC did notify applicants of the kind of aid that would be getting, but they only review financial aid if you’ve been accepted. For the longest time, I could go back and check my 2014-2015 aid status (the year I was rejected) and it still said “Under Review” It’s my guess that it stays that way if you don’t get accepted.
I sincerely hope USC will release decisions by Saturday. I don’t want them to do the same thing they did last year, releasing decisions up to a week late. Like yours @zettasyntax
I’d post a screenshot of my question and her answer but I don’t know how or if you even can post pictures in here
@cctousc Last year they sent decisions even in the mid of July. I would die by that point…
@penntousc mine too. What is your GPA? If you don’t mind answering?
