All those who are waiting, are we going to know by tonight through the portal possibly??
@oso766 I took financial (2-part quarter system course) and managerial accounting as well as micro and macro Econ. All of those courses only count as elective credit I believe, but they would look good on your application. On my STARS report it still shows accounting and econ as required courses.
Marshall requires transfer students to take an abridged accounting course as well as business micro and macro Econ at USC. Taking those courses before you transfer won’t exempt you from the USC courses, but they will show admissions hat you are working towards a certain goal. Also, taking it beforehand will definitely make it easier once you take it at USC since you will already be familiar with the material.
Hi guys, I was accepted over a week ago, but I’ve been busy and forgot to post my stats for all of those who want their anxiety eased (or worsened).
ACCEPTED
Viterbi School of Engineering
Chemical Engineering (Nanotechnology)
GPA: 3.82
Transferring from: California Community College
Completed 80 units as of the end of this spring semester, including differential equations/linear algebra, o-Chem, all physics etc.
Essays: Mostly likely the reason I got in. I feel I showed my personality, and humor. I made a point to not sound uptight, anxious, and did not use words I hadn’t had full mastery of.
I have a question though. My CCC has an articulation history that shows all my science/math prep transferring, but I will have to redo some GE’s because they didn’t transfer (I think). Does anyone know if they will follow the articulation history for my CCC when decided my transfer report? I’m scared they won’t, and that I would have to retake some science or math classes upon transferring haha. In which case I would choose UCLA (I’ve submitted my SIR to both schools). Anyone know about the transfer report and how accurate articulation histories are? Thanks.
@qwality2953 Thank you!! I will definitely plan on taking those four now these next two semesters.
@LuNayyy Is it really tonight? Reading all the acceptance and rejection is really nerve wrecking.
@worldchanger The articulation histories are pretty accurate, at least compared to my report. One thing to look at though is the year of your articulation history. If you started college prior to Fall 2015 you will be using the old GE requirements. I’m not sure what the articulation page looks like for your school, but you should double check to see which GE requirements you need and which ones show up on the articulation history. I’m also not completely sure about the engineering school, but unless you took your science classes online your courses should transfer fine.
@mrheha Probably… Im not sure
Still nothing… what about the others?
i just checked, nothing is updated
nothing from me either (marshall soph transfer)
does it have to do with the admission counselors being away? are they still gonna look at applications or are they done with all and just slowly releasing the admission decisions?
Nothing here
@zettasyntax I want to take a moment and thank you for helping all of us. I read last years transfer threads and saw you were really active too, and you are still around to answer our questions this year, which is amazing!
I have some questions
First of all, is it mandatory? because checking the dates for the orientation the latest one for domestic transfer students is July 29th, which is almost three weeks before move in date, it will be hard for students who aren’t from around the area to attend.
Secondly what is your advice for someone who wants to live on campus?
Thank you!
Hi! I applied to Viterbi School of Engineering to Chemical Engineering… International transfer… I haven’t received any news yet … can someone tell me if I’m going to receive a package through the mail or if I will get a notification by email or through the website you.usc.edu? I’m getting a little bit worried… I thought today was the last day to get a response…
I emailed my admissions counselor asking for specifics on why I was rejected (I may appeal, not sure yet, but will reapply next year as a junior) and got an automated response saying they were out of the office until June 7th. I need to use this time to know if I should appeal so should I contact someone else in the admissions office?
I think they have that set up so that applicants don’t keep asking for info because I’m not an applicant and my counselor answered me almost right away yesterday
People who were accepted/rejected, feel free to post your decisions here for others to see so they don’t have to go searching through this thread to find all applicants’ decisions
@paddlethewaves Thanks, I like to stop by and talk on here when I want to procrastinate
Well, here’s what is says on USC’s website
“All new students are expected to attend Orientation. USC emphasizes attendance at Orientation in order to communicate with students regarding important information that can be integral for student success”
I suppose you can take “expected” to not exactly mean mandatory, but I do remember that transfer orientation had at least one event that was mandatory for international students, so I’m not sure if it would be mandatory for them. You could call and ask them for sure though. The most important thing about orientation is getting to register for classes and I had no problem at all getting into every class I wanted. If you don’t go to orientation, you will register later than everybody else and risk not getting the classes you want. I do remember some alcohol awareness talk and that was mandatory, but you’d probably already be at campus by then. I didn’t think it was mandatory to actually attend a talk on-campus when they had a similar online course, but they were serious about placing a hold if you did not attend.
I was admitted as a spring admit, so my situation was quite different when it came to housing, but my advice is to apply as quickly as you can. From my discussion with other transfers, we are initially at the bottom of the chain when it comes to getting our choices, so apply as soon as you are able to. I didn’t get any of my options and was instead asked to live somewhere temporary until space opened up, so I chose to commute to school.
Decision was just posted… Rejected for Annenberg. Not surprised with a low first semester GPA at 3.35. Good luck to everyone else!
@lindseyyhill1 I’m sorry to hear that did you find out through portal or mail?
