2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

@ivrule great thanks for letting me know. You got a package? Did you get a notification on your portal as well?

My son’s grades would have been received around May 5-9th, depending on which of the ways he submitted. Still has heard nothing. The button to submit the grades is still there. He emailed to confirm they had everything. They said they did. So I don’t think there’s a set framework.

@megan343 The portal changed on next Monday or Tue.

@megan343 really long lol. I’ve submitted my sgr early May and still waiting for a decision. I’m not sure if long waiting=acceptance, but I’ll take that anytime. Seems like most rejections have gone out during June 1 and they are probably waiting for more applicants to submit their intent to enroll so they know how many slots are left for fall or spring… Might not be right but this is what I think.

To all the non-traditional students…

I took 5 years off school before returning at the age of 23. I had 4 W’s and a 2.7 GPA from before my 5 year break. My 2 most recent years of college I earned a 3.9 and participated in some ECs. My overall GPA is still a 3.3.

I was admitted to USC with my first choice major. I know people with perfect 4.0s that didn’t get accepted. They want a diverse pool of students that have proved themselves in the real world and exhibit signs of growth and improvement.

Just some words of encouragement for all the non-trad applicants out there.

Congrats @atlashoney!! Did you just find out? If so did you hear through the portal or in the mail first?

You guys, USC’s admissions office is horrible. Thanks to a poster who messaged me with the same situation, I just called on my son’s behalf (he’s at work). They never marked his application complete, even though he submitted his grades numerous times between May 4 and May 10th, numerous ways. She said it can take “several weeks” but I could hear in her voice that someone was a sleep at the wheel. NOW the button to submit is gone. I’m furious. It would have greatly helped him to know his decision when he should’ve known it. Now if he is accepted, he’ll have less time to make any arrangements IF he chooses to leave the university where he is, where his GE’s are just about done vs. needing 8 courses at USC, where his writing requirements are complete but don’t count at USC, where they don’t leave students hanging whose applications have been complete since May 5. Sorry for the rant. If you’ve submitted a long time ago, and still see the button to submit for SGR, I would call them. I almost hope he doesn’t get in.

@jazzshreddermom sorry to hear that. It sounds like its a pain. How are you sure they have received it this time? I had the same issue with multiple people telling me they have received it when they hadn’t yet.

The woman on the phone said she was marking it “complete” now. And I hung up the phone and the button to submit went away; the message now says they have everything. Which they’ve had since May 7-10.

@jazzshreddermom The option to submit my spring grades went away about a week after I submitted mine which was, May 12th and I’m still waiting for a response. I was requested for my spring grades on, April 23rd, my transcripts were sent on, May 5th and my portal updated on, May 12th. I honestly don’t know why it’s taking this long, and I don’t really have the courage that you do to call on your sons behalf, I just feel uncomfortable calling them

@jazzshreddermom I sorta agree. Whenever I would call them, they always came off as a bit rude and like they couldn’t wait to end the call. This is why I’ve always encouraged people to call even if they thought the office/counselors were busy; they might not like that you’re calling, but it helps get things done because I honestly think they do forget about some applicants. I’m sorry too for all the frustration they’ve caused you.

Right, john6311, but since the option went away for you that means someone marked your file “complete.” Im guessing your message says “we have received everything, blah blah” as well. That NEVER happened for my son and poster who IM’d me. Even though everything was sent immediately numerous times, beginning May 4. My son even emailed his counselor to make sure USC understood that his school calls Spring “Winter” semester, in case that was the issue. Doesn’t sound like your file was forgotten. Your file went to the next consideration stage, committee or whatever. If that is slow, I can’t take issue. They have to do whatever they have to do. My son’s (and the poster who IM’d me) has been sitting there, waiting, for no reason. Because someone wasn’t doing their job. I posted this in case it applies to anyone else. Your portal should update. If it doesn’t for a month, something is wrong. A month! Grrr. End of second rant.

Hey guys. If anyone wants info regarding financial aid packages for those who fall under the FAFSA-EFC-of-zero category, please feel free to PM me. I recieved my package for Spring today and I can probably put some of your fears to rest–again if you fall under the need category.

Makes sense and I get your frustration @jazzshreddermom there has been some students who were accepted like three days after sending in their spring grades and I’m going on to my third week? So that’s why I’m confused as to why I’ve waited this long. I hope I don’t get rejected though, I competed all of the require te my counselor told me during the TTP meeting.

Does your son’s portal still have the SGR message under, ‘check application status’

Has anyone that has received a spring grade request and sent them in been rejected so far?

@erajan I would like to know that too. I feel like most rejections are out already, probably sent on june 1 and hoping that the rest are all acceptance. Waiting for people to submit their intent to enroll so they know how many more people they can accept.

Sent in my grades and was notified by the sender that USC has received my transcript, but nothing has updated on USC’s website so far.

I’ve been having problems with submitting my FASFA. Will this impact how long it will take me to receive a decision?

@Probtransfer The same thing happened to me. The portal only removed the option to submit my grades after I called the admissions office to make sure they received them.

John6311, no, as I mentioned, the request to submit and the button are now gone, replaced with the “we have everything we need” message. He is also TTP but had to substitute some courses discussed as he’s at a large 4-year with no registration priority.
