2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

@USCimhereforu It’s from 2014 so the loans + work study shows 8000 but for 2016 (me at least) it was 14000 and it showed 23000 on the calculator but was 26000 in real so not too far off in that sense?

@worldchanger Be grateful that your parents have the income that they do, and access to the valuable liquid assets of you’re unfortunately deceased loved ones (who I’m sure would be happy to see the proceeds of their sold properties go to you and your sister’s education). I am 24, financially independent from my family, have no money saved due to funding my community college education, and am prepared to invest whatever it takes to ensure a prosperous future for myself.

Stay hungry.

oh wow okay, its pretty accurate then. I’m sorry about ur financial aid though. :frowning: where are u planning to go now for school? @BIMguy

@USCimhereforu yeah it sucks because USC was my dream school, I just don’t want to put my parents through that so I’ll earn money and get my masters from USC if I have a chance.

I only applied to 3 schools (I switched my major my second year) which have my major (business-IT) and got into UCSC, USC but got waitlisted at UCI (my second preference), but after talking to my coworkers at Intel, I feel strong about even attending UCSC because I have some great jobs/references on my resume. If UCI waitlist doesn’t work out then I’ll be going to UCSC! I have to pay like 15k per year.

does anyone have any insight as to how much can be expected to pay if you’re over 25, independent, no savings, etc? Has anyone ever been offered a generous financial package?

@mpmarino have you gotten the financial package yet?

@BIMguy ok, so what was your cost per year? Did they say it will be $26,000 for you, per year?

Does anyone have a minimum GPA requirement in their acceptance letter under “Conditions of Admission”? My letter simply says that my admission is contingent upon verification of official records, satisfactory completion of course work, and avoidance of academic or behavioral misconduct. They have all my official transcripts apart from my pending spring semester grades and I did not receive a request for those before being admitted. If my admission was dependent on my spring semester grades, would I have received a SGR?

@CinemaTransfer As far as I know some people get this 3.5 minimum gpa requirement, does yours not make any mention of a 3.5 gpa threshold?

@itslife123 There is no mention of a minimum spring GPA at all in my conditions of admission. It’s possible this is because my overall GPA is actually a bit lower than the 3.7 USC average and is even below a 3.5. My Transfer Credit Report on OASIS recently updated and it shows my USC Cumulative Transfer GPA as 3.439. I went the entire calendar year of 2015 with straight A’s across 30 units to bring my GPA up as high as I possibly could before I applied. I have a few B’s and a single D from the years prior.

I should note that I was accepted into SCA as a film and television production major for the Spring of 2017. I can only speculate that my portfolio pulled the majority of the weight and that the admissions office liked my upward trend. That’s why I am curious if anyone has a spring semester GPA requirement in their conditions of admission, because I do not. I’m still waiting on my spring grades, so I would be relieved if I am not required to have another semester with a 4.0.

@journalism89 I think my financial aid package is generous

@worldchanger yes that’s my estimated remaining cost per year (total cost - (grant + loans & work)). But I’ll have to pay the loans as well so it’s more than just what the estimated remaining cost is.

@journalism89 I remember one dude from last year that said he was going to USC for his second BA degree saying he had an amazing package that he couldn’t believe; he was in his late 20s and independent. For most situations, I think USC tries to be generous, but still expects you to pay at least something whether it’s with a loan or work study. My mother’s income puts us at like the poverty line and USC still wants us to pay about ~16K in loans. Given that they’re covering just about my entire tuition, I’m very happy with that, but it’s quite rare to have them cover absolutely everything unless you’re really lucky or something.

@CinemaTransfer Makes sense :slight_smile:

@zettasyntax Have you heard of any transfer students getting rescinded becuase they didn’t meet the 3.5 gpa requirement in the Spring Semester?

Has anyone else who sent their grades early May still not heard a thing?

Has anyone heard anything back this week yet? Or have all notifications been from last week?

Hey guys!
I just got admitted into Marshall and I’ll be an incoming sophomore.
I received a SGR on May 6, but didn’t send it in until May 25. The message on my portal didn’t disappear until yesterday, and I received my decision today!
I honestly didn’t think I was getting in because I didn’t spend much effort on my essays and didn’t have anyone read it, and my first semester gpa was a 3.567, which is slightly low for Marshall, and then my spring semester was only a 3.611.
I think I got in because I got an A in my transferrable courses: Writing, Calculus, and a core Science class, but who knows?
If it matters, my dad was an USC alumni, but I was not on TTP because I forgot about it when I decided to transfer haha…

@katwhooo Congrats! That’s awesome  Did you find out on your portal? And where were you transferring from if you don’t mind me asking?

@megan343 thanks! yeah I checked my email this morning and they had sent an email asking for additional info about my financial aid, and I read that sometimes it’s an indicator of admission, so I checked my portal. I haven’t gotten anything in the mail yet.
I’m transferring from NYU! I’m from Cali myself and I just wanted to be closer to home so yeah!
