2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

@ayu026 :open_mouth: but you’re on TTP!!

@john6311 Yes I am, but the only requirement I didn’t meet was the cumulative 3.6+ GPA! I’m definitely hoping that they’ll take another look at my application with my new information. I don’t know if it’s normal for them to receive my transcript on one day, and then send an admission notice the very next morning. I’ll be updating on this thread just incase anyone else decides to also appeal as well. I heard that the appeal chance is pretty slim, they usually accept ~20-30 out of about 1000 appeals. But it definitely doesn’t hurt to try if you have new or compelling information!

@ayu026 that really sucks :frowning: I guess they straight-out rejected you because you didn’t meet the 3.6gpa threshold. I hope your new information about your loved one passing away explains your down trending gpa.

Yes, a strong GPA at a 4 year (U.S or international school) is considered harder to get than at a cc in the eyes of admissions. They reject about 6,000 transfers, they can’t take everyone. Also, virtually everyone can come up with a reason for a low gpa, my guess is they tire of excuses at this point whether valid or not. Cold hard truth is, it is easier to take someone that hits the scores and gpa with or without an excuse. With limited spots, they can be selective and are. ECs mean very little on the app for transfers as well. For TTP, besides hitting GPA, you have to take the correct courses to transfer, if your schedule is lighter or you take the wrong classes than they want to see, they will reject those students, even if on TTP.

The link for 2016 USC Transfer Admits didn’t seem to work. What resources are there for finding good roommate matches for transfer students off campus? Can’t seem to find anything to help out.

@zettasyntax would you say the meal plan is worth the price?

@journalism89 I live with my single mother of four kids in section 8 housing

Are there any Annenberg SGR applicants still waiting to hear? I received my SGR on 5/20 and still haven’t heard back

Is it good to assume that people who haven’t heard back after submitting a sgr are going to be accepted? I feel like people who haven’t heard back are accepted but the admission committee don’t want to admit us yet until they are certain that they have enough space or waiting for others to SIR(intent to enroll). The ttp applicant from ucr submitted her grades and already received her decision after a day. Which means they are rejecting everyone who doesn’t meet their standard up to this point. Those who meet the requirements and are highly going to be admitted have to wait longer I guess.

There is no point of rejecting those who are waiting for a long time now and it would seem unreasonable for them to do so. After waiting for a long time and being rejected, what’s the point of making us wait? Why not reject us after seeing our SGR that doesn’t meet the standard?

So for those who are still waiting after submitting your sgr in may, don’t lose hope.

@zettasyntax do you think this is the case like last year? Have you seen or know anyone who has been rejected late june or early july who submitted their sgr in april or may?

@pomeranian4rich that’s a really interesting prospective! I hope it’s true!

@taylorLA16 I’m an Annenberg applicant too, got a SGR May 18th and haven’t heard anything since. Submitted my grades shortly after receiving the request

@ProfessorX5 I definitely think it’s worth considering/giving it a shot for a semester; especially if you don’t cook. I spend a pretty decent amount on lunch, so I could only imagine if I actually lived on-campus and had to rely on them for all my meals.

@pomeranian4rich This year seems to be quite weird. In the 2014 and 2015 threads, I don’t ever remember anybody hearing back after a single day :open_mouth: USC has been too erratic for me this cycle :stuck_out_tongue: While in the 2014 thread, it actually did seem pretty common for people that waited longer wound up being the ones that got accepted. For instance, I waited just under two weeks and was rejected whereas another student waited over a month and found out in July (I think even the second week) and he was accepted. Although, I recall some student getting rejected shortly before him, so USC can still reject people that have waited a long time; cruel waiting times are their thing =\

@zettasyntax yeah I’m definitely gonna get it the first semester. We shall see if I get it the next semester.

@taylorLA16 received my sgr the 18th and sent grades on the 18th still haven’t heard anything for Annenberg

@bigstom
Hello:) I’m also a spring admit (incoming soph) . Are you a sophomore or a junior? And I seriously have no idea as to why certain people are admitted for the spring. I’ve seen a ton of threads and articles saying it’s because of Gpa but I have a 4.0 with 34 units so that is definitely not the case. If you go to sc are you going to live on campus or off campus?

@sarahouslyyy what’s your major?

@taylorLA16 @thepinksun sent my spring grades today, Annenberg applicant as well. I have a feeling they are going to make many of us wait til mid-july since the deadline to submit SGR’s is not until June 30th :((
I wonder when other Annenberg applicants heard back from the previous years…

@journalism89 political science

@sarahouslyyy just like what @zettasyntax said it could be your age. they like to give old transfers spring admit (age 21+)

@pomeranian4rich I’m 18. So that’s not it… People try to make it seem as if there might be something wrong with spring admits but a lot of us have the same stats/are in the same age range as a normal fall admit. So, speculating really does no good. I just think it’s by chance. They HAVE to admit some people in the Spring regardless. It’s unfortunate but at least we all end up at the same place. When we graduate it won’t really matter if we were admitted in the spring or fall because in the end our diplomas will say USC just like everyone else’s :slight_smile:

@sarahouslyyy that’s weird. did you apply to financially aid? maybe they did not want to pay for your fall semester, but it’s a guess.
