@pomeranian4rich I don’t need financial aid
@sarahouslyyy Yeah, I was 21 and not exactly that ancient when I was admitted as a junior spring admit, so I don’t buy the whole age thing because I remember that the dude who started the 2015 thread was like 26 and he got in for the fall I was just reiterating a theory by some poster who said he had a buddy that was an OA at USC, but most of their explanations didn’t make sense to me. I do think @pomeranian4rich has an interesting theory though. If you’re paying full-sticker price, I doubt USC would push you back to spring; they want that money
Who knows what the real reason is?
@zettasyntax yeah the financial aid theory really does make sense! But it isn’t applicable in my case so that’s not the reason why… I literally have no idea haha! I’m just not going to dread on it lol and I don’t think any other spring admits should, although it is very disheartening.
@pomeranian4rich she’s wrecking you
@sarahouslyyy @zettsayntax here’s a guess: i think it has something to do with the amount of GEs you’ve completed. How many did u guys complete? If you’ve done all of them and all the pre reqs and USC tells you to come in the spring, what are going to do in the fall? it would be a waste of time for you just to go to your school and get credit and not work towards your degree by means of GEs, Prereqs, etc. If you have a bunch of GEs to still do (3-4+) they’ll want you to complete those before going to USC. Those 3 or 4 GE classes you haven’t done yet WILL be the classes you do in the fall before a spring admit…
to add on, if you look at some of the decision threads from previous years, a lot of the people who got admitted to the spring said they only completed 1 or 2 GE categories…
@johnnyUSC you have a good point johnny. I barely completed any GE and I’m a sophomore applicant, I might be expected for a spring admit then.
@frh777 what? lol
@johnnyusc I’ve completed most GEs. ( I completed stats, Chem & bio through ap’s) but I’m missing one class for the Social Analysis requirement, a class for global perspectives (category g), and one lower division major class. I’m also missing categories 7&8 ( I think those can only be taken at SC but correct me if I’m wrong) Maybe I’m missing too many, since most people are done with theirs? Not really sure… I literally wish they’d tell me why they admit certain people to spring so we could stop speculating and know the answer!! Haha. But either way I’m going to Paris in the fall so I’m fine. Good luck to everyone else waiting on their decisions:)
@johnnyUSC I just had to complete another semester of foreign language. The only GEs I had to finish are the ones that can only be taken at USC. So I don’t really think it would be that either. Plus, my community college told me I had so many units that I shouldn’t go anymore unless I paid them
@sarahouslyyy I don’t know if I’m going to be able to live on campus because the housing people said all the housing is taken now
@zettasyntax or maybe they are telling the truth and that they don’t have any more “spaces” in the fall to accommodate everyone in that particular major. but I’ve seen ppl from those majors get fall admit later in July. do they ask for your fall grades if you’re a spring admit? maybe they want to see how you’ll do in the fall before admitting you. There are lots of possibility, so any reasons why they give ppl spring admit could be valid in their perspective.
@bigstom off campus housing is also a good option. there are lots of apartments and houses for rent around USC.
@pomeranian4rich Yeah, and the guy I like to mention was a Marshall major and he still managed to get in as a fall admit despite being accepted all the way in mid-July; Marshall seems like the most popular of all
I’m not sure. Since I had ~100 units, I didn’t really want to take more classes at community college because nothing else would have really helped me out. Sure, I could have taken the foreign language (and I probably should have), but I wanted to see what the language was like at USC. That’s why I’m really more of a fan of spring admits for freshmen rather than transfers since this created an unnecessary pause in my education whereas a semester break might be nice for them. The spring admit thing led to me basically having a super long summer vacation.
@zettasyntax Did you have to take a placement exam for the foreign language?
I took 2 years of French at the community college and would like to continue studying it at USC.
@GMalika Yup, I thought I wouldn’t have to since I took the 1st and 2nd course and assumed I could take the third course solely based off of my credits for those, but I still had to take the test anyway. I did place into the third course (thankfully, lol), but I’m told that USC offers some sort of waiver that basically says you’re enrolling in a course that you might not be prepared for and if you do poorly, it’s entirely on you. However, if you took 2 years of French, I assume that you’d easily pass the exam and would be free to take any French courses you’d want
@zettasyntax Thank you, I appreciate the quick response. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to take it, but I guess I should start preparing for it. Did you think the test was hard?
Hello guys! I have one question. If I admit for fall semester, is it possible to change from fall to spring semester? or there is no option…? thank you!
@ntbyooo you can by submitting an application for a deferral and you would have to provide a reason for it.
@GMalika I was taking Spanish and I actually did find the test to be just a tad difficult, but it was mainly because I have trouble keeping up with the audio recordings; they only play them twice and that’s it. However, the rest of the exam wasn’t that bad. I’m not sure how French would compare, but if you’ve taken 2 years of French, you should be more than capable of passing the exam. The Spanish class I took was easily my favorite class during my first semester at USC, so I imagine that most foreign language classes are fun
I feel like no one has posted an acceptance or rejection within the past couple of days. Is there a reason there hasn’t been any notifications recently?
