I wish everyone here good luck, but I wonder why @frh777 is even considering transferring since he considers his school so superior?
Has anyone looked into or thought about housing/roommates yet??
I’m looking at the options, but I’m not sure about anything haha.
@Winston18 Chapman’s acceptance rate is 45% and FYI I applied for regular admission. I just don’t like the school in general and the school lacks in terms of diversity. So to reply to your statement, no I do not consider my school “superior.” I’m just pointing out that it is much harder than community colleges because some people are trying to argue how absurd my “ridiculously easy” comment was. Anyways this discussion has been absolutely pointless and I wish all of you good luck with getting accepted into USC.
I’m sorry, I was the one who asked this original question and I definitely didn’t mean to spark an argument when we’re all on this thread for one reason.
Maybe it could have been worded a bit differently but I do understand where you’re coming from and I thought you made a good point @frh777. I think it also largely depends on the Professor teaching the class at the CC, but I’ve definitely sat in some classes at SMC wondering how it’s even allowed to be so easy (including ones that satisfy the USC G.E requirements). I’m in a Media 1 summer class right now where the midterm & final is open book and the one research paper due is 5 pages double spaced… that is pretty much the entire course load of the semester.
But I’ve also had other classes that have challenged me as well…
I think the person who had the correct answer to why they actually take in consideration lower GPA’s coming from Universities is whoever wrote that the G.P.A system differs (A-/A. etc).
My next question is if there’s anyone in this thread that has actually transferred from a CC to USC (maybe even from SMC?) and has real life insight on how much harder the course load was when they transferred. I’ve been getting worried I’m going to get to USC and have no idea what hit me (even if I am a good student). Anyone have any friends that have transferred and have given feedback?
@truehappiness I have the same counselor, she is awesome. I sent her a screenshot last Monday and she said I should hear back of a decision soon. Also transferring to Marshall 4.0 GPA.
Nice! Can’t imagine you’d get anything other than an acceptance with an impressive 4.00. Good luck
@journalism89 I think it largely depends on your major/the kind of classes you take. I took CS103 this past spring semester and even though I got B’s on the midterm and final, I only wound up with a C+ as my overall grade. I was for sure expecting at least some form of B, but when I found out that some students were involved in start-ups (one student was working on some kind of ios music app), I wasn’t prepared for the level of competition. Another class that gave me trouble was actually a GE course, but also part of my major. On the very first exam, I only managed to earn a D. I spoke with a few other students and found out that I was not the only one to do so poorly. I asked past students who took the course and they said the course used to be quite easy as the professor was very fair in grading and was in charge of the discussion sections, but ours was the first time the class had a TA apparently. I found redemption when it was time for the second exam, only missing a single question this time (syntax is really fun), but given how poorly I did with the first exam, my final grade for the course also wound up being a C+. My other grades were ones that I was very happy with, but USC is definitely leaps and bounds above most classes I’ve encountered at community college. The only thing that comes even close that had me sweating about not earnnig at least a B was a sociology class I took at Pierce College during the winter. The professor only offered 100 points total, so if you did bad on 1 exam or forgot to turn in even 1 assignment, you pretty much had no chance at getting an A; she was a bit brutal
Anyway, I think I know what to expect from now on, but it was sure a wake-up call; I never had grades like that in CC.
@mr.transfer just curious… are you transferring from community college or a 4 year university?
Is anyone involved in Greek Life at their current university? I go to American University and am in Greek Life. If I am hypothetically accepted I would be interested in continuing it at USC, and don’t know how that works. Anyone know?
@megan343 if they have your sorority at USC and you’ve been initiated into it at American University, you are technically still considered a member of that sorority. This means you won’t have to rush or go through the pledging process. I’d double check but my friend is a TKE at USC and told me this.
Does anyone know if they wait to accept or deny you until they’ve finished reviewing your financial aid application? I haven’t heard back since I sent in my spring grades and was wondering if it might be because I got all of my financial info turned in pretty late.
@frh777 great, thanks! Do you know how I would go about asking about that? I have been in DG for two years
@megan343 DG is one of the top houses at USC. Yeah, I’d call or e-mail these guys: https://greeklife.usc.edu/about/contact-us/ or try the actual council: http://uscpanhellenic.com/contact/
@megan343 you contact your sorority president from your current institution and she contacts the president at USC dg to do paperwork to get you affiliated.
help! i wanted to get off campus housing but I’m afraid its in a bad neighborhood? where should i get an apartment if its not with usc?? help
@izrobins I don’t think that matters much at all; I lagged with a bit of my information as well. I also think it doesn’t matter since it’s not really like they provide you with an estimate until after you’ve been accepted anyway (usually within a week of your acceptance). For instance, my 2014-2015 financial aid claimed it was “under review” in my portal for over a year until it eventually disappeared
@zettasyntax that was great, thank you so much!! Is this your first year at USC since transferring/what’s your major? Also, what was the G.E course where you received the D on your first exam? So many questions I’m just so curious and you’re very helpful, thanks!
@frh777 Community College I finished 60 semester units in 3 semesters.
My counsellor sent me an email this morning saying most of the people waiting, including me, won’t hear back before mid-july. :-S
It’s ridiculous that they make people wait until mid-July to find about their future.
