@John6311 West 27th is booked and theres a waitlist thats been going on for months
I hope I dont sound stupid but how do you pay for off campus housing as a student if youre not bringing in a lot of money? Do people use student loans or do your parents pay for it? I know its on a month to month basis but I’m confused having only lived in on campus dorms before.
@truehappiness “Please Note: Undergraduate, Family and Graduate Housing for 2016/2017 is Full.”
can u link me where u saw that?
nvm found it
So housing is completely out?
There should still be off campus housing available. Call Gateway, Tuscany, Lorenzo (expensive and one mile away but they have a shuttle), etc. Also keep checking the USC Facebook page as there will be students looking to fill a fourth bed, etc. in their apartment as a result of someone deciding to live elsewhere. If you guys make a bit of effort I really don’t think you will be homeless.
And USC won’t change your financial aid as the result of going off-campus. However I don’t know how you can access any of that money to help pay for off-campus housing.
@puykcy Not a dumb question at all. Kids are surprised to find out at places like Gateway, Lorenzo and most apartments, the lease is for 12 months. Some give an option for 9 but you pay a higher monthly rate. Also your parents have to be guarantors on the lease since most students don’t have credit history. Unless of course you pay the 12K up front in cash. In the bigger complexes you pay by the bed (like Gateway and Lorenzo which are about 1K per month per bed). Just like USC housing, if a roomate flakes, you are not liable for their rent, But in many smaller apartments you are signing the entire lease with your room mates. Meaning if one of them bails on you, those that remain are on the hook for the rent so know who you are living with if you sign one of these. Room mates dropping out or bailing happens more than you think for all kinds of reasons. It can mess with your credit rating for life! Also for international students, I have heard of prop mangers (like First Choice Housing that manage lots of properties) putting holds on their visas (there is some code reference for this, I forget what it is called) so that if they bail on their lease they will have travel issues in the future.
For the majority of students, their parents are paying, some with, and some without, student loans.
@LACCryan Yo I called the office of admissions and the guy said that having your STARS report filled out doesn’t mean anything, but I should be getting my decision in a couple of days according to him.
@CADREAMIN Do you live off campus as well?
@frh777 Maybe that’s his general response to protect the integrity of the application review process. In any case, how did you get him to give you a detailed ETA for your decision? I mean, you obviously asked but what did you say to him exactly? I’m wondering if I should call to as well but I fear the dreaded you’ll hear back by “mid-July”. Thanks!
I am a parent of USC students and have been dealing with USC stuff for last 6 years. I dealt with a lot of the apartment issues between mine (one just graduated, one still there). One lived in apartment off Adams (too far I think, it worked out - he was never mugged prob cause he is big athlete ha, but they were robbed) where a room mate did leave school so that was a scramble, and the next one lived at Gateway for last two years, but is moving to big townhouse with 8 people next year. Been through some leases and stuff there! There are cheaper options than Gateway type places, just try to be as close to campus as you can.
The Adams location if toward Vermont (around Ellendale) has lots of housing options that can be ok, but it is only close to Ralph’s groceries (which is good if you make your own stuff), but there are virtually no close food places, that sorta sucks. They had to drive or uber or have food delivered (which they did a lot).
@LACCryan I just asked him how long it will be until I receive my admission decision. Then he said very soon and I asked if he meant days or weeks. Then he said I should hear back in a couple of days.
As a parent which off campus housing gave you the least amount of troubles? Did your children try to get into a specific apartment complex like Lorenzo, etc. but couldn’t due to limited availability or were the ones they ended up living in be their first choice? @CADREAMIN
Anyone willing to get a house near campus?
Some of these off housing options are super expensive.
If I get in, I’d be down. The off campus housing selections are hella expensive lol. Idk why some think living off campus is cheaper? I feel like it’s roughly the same @mr.transfer
Accepted! Fall 2016 Annenberg for Communication!
@taylorLA16 Congrats!!! how’d you get notified??
Congrats, @taylorLA16 what are your stats
This is brutal haha. I feel like we’re a bunch of puppies staring through the looking glass waiting to be chosen to live with a great family (in this case USC). And when somebody takes one of ours away we are still anxiously hoping to learn from those who were already selected and what might be next. @taylorLA16 should be jumping for joy right now because I know I’d be haha. But please, come back and let us Annenberg applicants know the scoop! USC has seemingly saved us for last!
