2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

I think there’s still some Marshall and Viterbi as well as Dornslife students that need to find out @LACCryan

OMG I feel like @taylorLA16 is the first Annenberg applicant who has posted that’s been accepted!! Great news!!! And congrats!!!

Thanks! I found out through my portal this morning. Still haven’t received my packet.

I have a 3.9 GPA from PCC and 39 transferable units completed. I also had a 4.2 weighed GPA in high school. I will be a sophomore in the fall at USC.

@taylorLA16 Hey!! Congrats! I go to pcc too! 34 units 4.0 Gpa viterbi applicant.
Also, My counslor just responded to my email and he said "We have your spring transcripts and are finalizing our last round of decisions. We hope to finish our reads by this weekend. Thank you for your understanding. "

Is anyone’s “check your financial aid status” down for maintenance on YouSCPortal?

Mine said “ability to benefit verification” is needed in financial aid. Then disappeared. ?

@John6311 I willl gladly share what we experienced, keep in mind others experiences’s may vary, but here is what I found:

It his disappointing just how much is just plain filthy down there. Many of the apartments can be nasty. Even the expensive ones have issues that they put on kids that are paying a fortune - adult renters (non student adults) would never tolerate. But I digress…here is some specifics from my students -

Second one did Gateway, super easy, no issues, was first choice, They had 6th floor view of downtown gorgeous apartment, so nice to not have to deal with furnishings. We brought own desk, theirs are weird. Been happy there, close to campus (still a hike to engineering side!) .There is a girl named Katy that works there, she has been very responsive. But it is expensive. They have workout room, gorgeous sun deck, again, great but expensive. Moving to giant townhouse cause as seniors they want to do something cooler. Gateway can feel like dorms but overall good option. 12 month lease is brutal if you don’t stay, virtually impossible to sublease. Most are 12 months around USC.

Lorenzo is awesome from what I here, like a resort, but way too far and from the students I know that went there, the shuttles can be maddening. Mine wanted housing where you could get back and forth to campus at will and easily so never considered it. The guy that owns it is having financial issues cause it is so expensive to maintain, so not sure if there will be mgmt problems going forward, Google LA Times/Lorenzo and see if you can find article on it.

Stuho Property Mgmt was a nightmare to work with. First son’s apartment was infested (not a couple but hundreds) of roaches at move in (which duh someone should have seen since they were on the walls and everywhere). Four guys were paying 3600 and still had this to deal with. Had to store stuff and find a solution and drive back down a week later. Nightmare for all 3 years with them. Problem after problem they wouldn’t fix, they don’t answer the phones, etc. Avoid Stuho if you can but sometimes they do have the inventory.

First Choice Housing runs really professional, gal named Patty is awesome if still there ask for her - but not sure they have a ton of inventory, especially now. They are running an apt on Adams called Avalon - huge 2-3 bedrooms big LR and kitchens, but need 4 or 6 to make it affordable. Still, a bit far and not close to food, but building is nice. Some buildings can be so many international that you don’t hear English and they aren’t social (like people don’t make eye contact - weird) watch for that if you don’t want that.

Watch the neighborhoods, USC to Adams bordered between Hoover and Vermont all is ok, but there is a direction (maybe by coliseum idk) that everyone says to stay away from. If you ask any property mgr they should be honest and tell you what the bad side is. I can ask one of mine later and repost…that’s it for now!

@frh777 whats your major???

When people find out via their portal, what does the message typically say? Does the “SGR Request” just go away?

Also, does -anyone- have experience with the parking situation at USC if you commute?

@xerxes96 English with an Emphasis in Creative Writing

I’m a Viterbi applicant too so thank god to know there’s something going on

Thank you @CADREAMIN that was extremely helpful!!!

@mr.transfer

I’d be interested! I have no clue what to do right now with on-campus housing full and all haha.

Yeah same @mr.transfer

Submitted my spring grades in person yesterday. Fingers crossed! My major is Business Admin so I’m a Marshall hopeful.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten in, and good luck to everyone waiting like I am!

@LadyVeee mind telling your stats? good luck to you too!

@LadyVeee

I’m also Business Admin and I was admitted the day after sending them my spring grades. :slight_smile: Good luck!

@pomeranian4rich thanks!

I have a low GPA and I know some people have been turned down with a 4.0 so I’m trying to be realistic but I’m happy at this point that I didn’t get flat out rejected. My last 4 semesters have been 3.8-4.0 taking 16-22 units

I have a final GPA of 3.3, I’m a Phi Theta Kappa member and VERY involved in my community and at school (President of Business Club, treasurer of Poli Sci club). I do have a little more than 90 transfer units though because I changed my major from music to business 2 years ago.

I know USC is big about community service so I made sure to highlight those things in my essays. I have 3 years of management experience and I work with special needs kids at a school in a low income neighborhood. I’ve been told my essays were strong and I know they are the reason I have gotten into some of the schools I’ve been accepted to so far.

I have gotten into CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton, San Diego State, University of San Diego, and LMU…but USC is the dream lol

@truehappiness Thanks and congrats!

i got accepted to dornsife today! my portal didn’t update but i got the package in the mail first. 4.0 from CCC. :slight_smile:

@uscfoc congrats!! do you live close to USC? The reason I ask is because I’m in Florida and I’m wondering if it will take much longer for the acceptance package to arrive if I get accepted.
