2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

@eoverland thank you! That was helpful. It seems like Lorenzo is a little more expensive but you get more for your money!
And Lorenzo has really good deals right now if you lease you’ll get your down payment waived with a $200 visa gift card and f you lease for two years you get a free parking spot, $400 visa gift card and down payment waived.

I feel as though this admissions process really set us transfers back a lot. We don’t even have housing and to find our own will probably put a financial burden on a lot of us, I am assuming. Hopefully we find a place…I am looking at craigslist and will most likely take a trip to LA at the end of july to search for places. I’ll update you guys with what I find. But for what a lot of you were saying…youre paying more than what you are getting…900-1000 bucks per month…that’s 1/4 of the whole year’s room and board! hopefully we all find a place or some of us room together. I have never been to LA in my life so I am interested in seeing how this goes.

P.S. DOES USC REQUIRE A NONCUSTODIAL PROFILE ON THE CSS PROFILE?

I’m looking for housing that is walking distance from USC (preferrably as close as possible). The most I’m willing to spend is $1,000/person. The most important thing for me is safety, so no individual houses please. Buildings and big apartments only. USC patrolled areas preferred. At most 2 people per room and bathroom. I’m looking for (preferably) female roommates, so if anyone is interested please message me.

How will transfer students take part in the welcome week activities if we live off-campus?

I’ll be living off campus at Lorenzo and will bring a car. Will be signing my contract this week. If you’re interested in rooming together, message me. I’m a male and will room with male only. I’ll bring a car with me and if we can negotiate, I can drive both of us to school everyday.

Anyone here got the ability to benefit notification on Friday super nervous for tomorrow? Cause I know I am!

@imlusc I am. I can’t wait until tomorrow. Are you Marshall?

when does the ability to benefit thing update to a decision is it like the email we got from the financial aid office early in the morning or is it throughout the day thing??

@imlusc @mrheha Same here, the hours go by like days lol :stuck_out_tongue: I’m so excited and pumped up for tomorrow! Then we’ll finally know if we’re a fall or spring admit.

@mrheha Yes I am Marshall! I feel like tomorrow is gonna be a huge wave of Marshall acceptances…

@uscmarshallbound I know seriously… I’ve been constantly refreshing this thread and the portal all weekend like a crazy person…

@albaab Yes. They require that.

Lorenzo is a really nice place, but paying 1000 plus for a double is a rip-off. I’m pretty sure people can find a decently nice place near campus and get a single for that price.

Thats true it have a nice gym and pool area but cmon 1000 to share a room its so cal the beach is close and there are gyms throughout the area

@topchoiceschool Lorenzo is cheaper. Look at @eoverland post.

@uscmarshallbound gateway is your best option. I think is $1070 per month though!

When the acceptances come through this week could you guys post your counselor with your stats? I think it would be helpful for people to know whether or not their counselor is pumping out those acceptances

So I was looking at the cost for just room and board at USC… (is someone wants to verify my information that would be awesome) but its roughly $13,855 a year…ok so most of the places you’re finding you will most likely pay a whole lot less than that. Definitely try Craigslist and even if renting for a year or for 9 months is an option for most landlords and those subletting their place, it is so much cheaper! it doesn’t sound a lot when its within the tuition but the bigger picture is that you will be paying less. plus you’ll be sharing a dorm in more crowded area with other people as well. But there are benefits in off campus that can give us advantages as well

For all of those looking for housing I can second @eoverland on the Lorenzo apartments. They’re a little bit more expensive but they’re “hotel” style apartments so they take care of any maintenance etc… It’s very hassle free but a bit more expensive.

The area around USC is not the safest to be 100% honest. I know a while back they used to have USC hired security that would roam off campus areas. Not sure of the situation now.

I’m really hoping tomorrow will hold some kind of answers though. Waited super patiently for Monday to return…

@ryanstartedthefire2020 I had a pretty nice counselor, so will post if I get anything!

@albaab Room and board at USC includes meals. Off campus housing is not including the price of food, so it is actually really hard to find housing comparable to the rent only amount of that total. Especially this late in the game. A shared crappy room for $600-700 is the cheapest I have heard, and it ain’t great. And there is no such thing as a 6 month lease. If you ever found a month to month lease (which don’t exist there either) one would expect to pay at least 1 1/2 times the going monthly rate to do that. Subletting is tough there, it can be done, but there are thousands of places open for sublet and virtually no one to take them. Just trying to set realistic expectations since I have had multiple kids attend there and still do.

You cannot get a single close to campus for $1000, it is closer to $1500 for a single (if there are any, which I doubt at this point).

What I don’t understand is the appeal of transferring to USC then living far away from campus. Of course I understand the expense of it…but a cheaper apartment with the added expense of car, gas, parking and time invested isn’t really cheaper. I find that many transfers seem to be thinking of USC as a CC - just driving in, going to class and leaving. So why is it so important to go to USC if not experiencing USC? Sorry, I am confused, maybe transfers just have a different approach - just go to class and get the degree and get out. And truly, I am not insulting that - but not sure why anyone wants to spend that kind of tuition money just to drop in for classes. In that case, it is just a college, not a great college, cause you aren’t truly getting the USC experience. Might as well go to UC Irvine or Riverside. Just commentary…

I don’t think we ever really had this “driving in, going to class, and then leaving” type of mindset. We’re more so trying to adapt to the lack of available on campus housing. I’m pretty sure we would live on campus if there were space available. So with that, everyone is trying to see what the best off campus option is. The best being the one which is closest to SC. By people saying that Lorenzo was the best option for them was due to the cheaper cost, and better ratings. I’m not sure where you’re getting this whole just going to school then leaving idea from? @blueskies2day

does anyone have Maria Rodriguez as their counselor? I’ve been keeping close contact with her through email.
