2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

Just curious how long a transfer credit report takes? My son’s SGR WAS his final transcript for the year, but so far no report or update on STARs. He is a Spring Admit, but we are curious what will and won’t transfer. Any thoughts?

@jazzshreddermom I want to say that it might take anywhere from a couple weeks to maybe a month (if not ever so slightly longer). I recall that it took forever for me to see what was transferring. I was also a spring admit. I think they aren’t in as much of a rush for spring admits because orientation for them isn’t until December. Whereas, they’d be in a time crunch for fall students as they really need to have their transfer reports done by their orientation.

@zettasyntax I see. thx

Hey guys i’m just curious, so if I tend to take fall classes this semester even though I know they won’t be transferable (personal reasons) would USC look at the grades of the untransferable classes? (I got admitted for spring 2017 btw)

Would anyone mind telling me if they took a humanities course that transferred at a GE? While humanities does seem like it’d meet the description of at least one core literacy, I’d really just like to confirm it.

Guys, I am a freshman at BU and I am planning on transferring for computer science. I have Calc 2 credit from AP Calc BC and am taking college writing. It says that I should take a science, so I am taking environmental science this semester and probably evolutionary bio next. Is that okay for viterbi?

@penntousc you should ask your counselor, but if seems like it would transfer then go for it

@tomatoes124 the Viterbi site specifically says you should take two sciences courses- calc based physics AND chemistry or biology. Tbh I don’t think you should take enviro sci or evolutionary bio bc there’s a high chance it won’t transfer from your school. Your safest bet is take general chem or general bio, but ask your counselor before you make a final decision. Viterbi transfer page–> http://viterbiadmission.usc.edu/transfer/

Good luck guys!

I recommend everyone take their questions to this upcoming year’s thread which is more active

can someone in USC 2016 transfer admits(official) add me to the group? please thx

Hello everyone,
A few of my friends who transferred to USC told me that they use GPA trend to make admission decisions. Can someone explain to me how this works? Do I have a solid trend, got a 3.16 my first year of community college, will have a 3.58 by the end of winter semester.

A USC admissions counselor told me that Marshall requires students to complete calculus with a B or higher otherwise they aren’t competitive against other applicants.

Can I get in if I finish up my math requirement (Calculus) during the summer term or does it have to be done by spring? Can somebody direct me to the literature where it says this?

Thanks!

URGENT!

So my number one priority is USC and I’ve been prepering myself for USC for the past two years in a local community college. All was going well until I got a D in my physics course this semester…I have talked to the counselor and she said I should retake the course, which I am, but I’m honestly stressing over how stupid I was. None the less, I’m expecting a Spring Grade Request since I’ll be taking 24 units spring semester which I think is duable since I’m no longer working 30 hours a week. If all goes well my gpa should go up to 3.68 which is right on the money with USC’s average gpa of 3.7…Anybody know a person or have been in the same shoes as me? I’m seeking for guidance…

p.s. - All my other grades are looking good with mixture of A and Bs. That’s the only class I’ve gotten with anything below a B…

this may sound stupid, but is it necessary to complete the CSS? just because I know there’s a big fee to it

@moncc44 : You only need to complete the CSS Profile form if you wish to be eligible to receive financial aid from USC (it has nothing to do with admissions). If you don’t care about, need or want financial aid from USC, then you can ignore it. Fee waivers are readily available for the Profile (https://profileonline.collegeboard.org/prf/VignetteServlet/VignetteServlet.srv?relativePath=/profile/pdfs/finaid_fee_information.pdf), so don’t let the cost of the form ($25 for the first school, $16 for each additional school) prevent you from filling it out.

@moncc44 - that is so not a stupid question, many parents struggle trying to figure that out. Schools say it is required - but as @someusckid95 said - that is in the case where you want to be evaluated for financial aid. Some know they don’t qualify for aid, so don’t bother to complete it.

@s0meUSCkid95 @CADREAMIN thank you for getting back to me, I called the financial aid office and the guy told me that they received my FAFSA and not to worry about the CSS. What does this mean? He simply said that they have everything an not to do it. I’m just worried because I know today is the last day to submit it. Also, how does the CSS differ from the FAFSA?

So I’m planning on applying to USC this fall and I am a little confused at what they mean by “Needing 30 units completed” so you’re High school grades and SAT scores aren’t needed/considered. Do they literally mean you have to have already completed 30 units by the time you send your application?

I’m asking because I will only have 23 credits done by the time Fall starts, and I’m planning on taking 14 credits in the Fall. Will they still need me to send ACT/SAT scores?

Here is the current transfer thread and it is very active:
