2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

you’ll know when it changes, its completely different and it’ll say like admission decision in big letters and let you apply for housing and register for orientation. @victory1

So I got a winter grade request from usc and I sent in my grades via the you.usc.edu website. I can see that they received my winter grades in the received documents list, but it says that I still have it on my required documents list to send in. How long should I wait or should I send another transcript?

@Some1else I send in an updated official transcript that includes my winter quarter grades, and it took two weeks to show up as received document on youusc. Wait around 2-3 weeks then call USC to confirm if they still haven’t receive it  Hope it helps

Hey, everyone. I am currently at CSUN desiring to attend and transfer to a UC. I’m hoping for UCLA, USC, or Berkeley.
I had a rough start in my first semester at Northridge (Fall 2015), which lead me to be on academic probation this semester of Spring '16. I got my AA at a CC and didn’t get accepted to the above schools.
I am doing great this semester-- all A’s. Do you guys have any comments, suggestions or advice to spare?
I was also considering going back to a CC to complete one more class to get my AA-T in Psychology hoping that it gives me another shot at applying to the UC’s I want to go to, which will bring me back to a higher chance of getting accepted.

@Allforsarah Not sure about the UCs, but for USC, I’ve never read about them considering whether you’ve earned an AA or not. They focus primarily on the coursework you’ve completed in preparation for your major and the GE’s you’ve satisfied, and how well you’ve done in those classes.

@Allforsarah I don’t think I’ve ever noticed anything about AA-T either for UC’s or USC. I’ve only seen mention of it when trying to apply to CSUs and it supposedly gives you priority admission as you’re guaranteed to be at junior standing  For one in psychology, I would assume that you would have taken several psych courses and many might transfer over to the UCs or USC and like Probtransfer said, they would just like to see how well you preformed in those major prep courses

You guys are right! AA-T IS for CSU’s and not UC’s, darn totally forgot! Sigh.
This semester I am taking 2 upper-division courses that I’m doing really good in so USC would look at those, right?
Would I have to still fulfill their prerequisites before I can apply?
How well do they look for extracurricular activities? I’m not involved in any clubs etc. I’ve worked part time outside of school and have volunteered only.

@Allforsarah USC’s only requirements to apply as a transfer involve finishing some basic level math requirements and a writing class that is equivalent to a second semester writing class (I think their website has a more detailed explanation).

I think EC’s help, but from what I’ve read/etc, they mainly care about your grades and the classes you’ve taken. Great EC’s aren’t going to help if you have a low GPA/aren’t prepared for the major you applied for, and not having tons of EC’s won’t make them want to reject you if you have a great GPA in your major prereqs.

Btw this wait for a response has literally become longer since we know USC has sent some transfer decisions. Does anyone know of any non-TTP people getting a response yet?

@Probtransfer I would probably give it until the end of April until the rest of us start to find out.

so wait…for your gpa they just take the courses that would transfer for your major/in their catalog right? If I switched from a bio major to a poli sci major after 1 semester they’re not going to count my bio or chem courses correct?

@topchoiceschool End of April seems accurate compared to past years, I wonder if there will be more acceptances instead of SGR’s this time around.

@puykcy If the course transfers to USC, I think they’ll still count it in your transfer GPA. If you took a class that isn’t transferable to USC, then I don’t think they will factor it in.

Does anyone know if admitted, how difficult is it to make a slight major change?

is usc also sending rejections this time around? or are all rejections sent after june 1st?

@Allforsarah I go to Northridge too. Some of the requirements are the lower division writing requirement which is ENGL 305 @ our school and some sort of completion of intermediate Algebra (I’m not entirely sure what class that is at CSUN. I didn’t take math this semester), and the transferable courses. Check out the articulation agreement we have with USC to make sure you’re taking classes that will transfer over. Also, I agree with the others are saying about the AA-T. I’m sure there is more importance on the number of units you have. As for the extracurriculars, I know many people who didn’t do much (myself included) and got in, so I am guessing there isn’t as much weight compared to the GPA. GL fellow matador!

@topchoiceschool Many of my friends at USC told me it’s easy to switch majors within a school at USC. However, internal transfers would probably be more tedious and difficult. I’m in the same boat as you b/c I’m at Dornsife but want to major at Marshall.

@genieforuboi I think they would send most of them later bc they would need to make sure to admit a certain # of students before just straight up rejecting them. At least that is what I think. However, I think if you aren’t what USC is looking for, they might send you one sooner.

@topchoiceschool OH! I also know of someone who switched majors like three times within the same semester at Dornsife while he was a junior. I would guess it gets more difficult to switch if you have more units under your belt b/c there isn’t as much wiggle room for taking more courses for a particular major. I researched a bit about internal transfers and read some comments about people saying it was a ‘breeze’ and whatnot. I know you have to fill out some paperwork, send current course work info/GPA and maybe get a letter. GL to you! I hope you get accepted forreals.

@js119999 Thank you! Congrats on your acceptance, it must be exciting! Is USC your first choice?

@topchoiceschool haha thanks a bunch! and yeah. I originally wanted to go to NYU but I didn’t even apply bc I was told I would have to take out like too many loans. :frowning: but who cares about NYU in the face of USC. wooohoo! did you apply elsewhere?

Do we have to notify the school if we opted out of the financial aid process?

@js119999 my top choice is Stern as well :), what are (or were) you planning on majoring Marshall?

@iamthetopgun HAHA really? I really wanted to go out of state for college. Stern was my dream too! With Wall Street in NYC too, Stern was definitely convincing. I am still unsure of my major, but I think I might go for a progressive degree at USC. That’s the program where you can get a BA and MA all in 5 years without taking the GRE. I’m also thinking of Asian American Studies or maybe Business Administration @ Marshall. It sucks how Marshall doesn’t have Marketing at Marshall. They only have it for Grad school  What do you want to do at Marshall or any other school?
