2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 1)

Thank you, @abasket! That is a good question. Also, even if I’d normally want to just look nice without standing out, isn’t it supposed to be a bit more “special” for MOG?

Both dresses are beautiful. I favor the first one and think the lace on the top makes it a standout dress.

Thank you, @Chumom!

@fretfulmother If the second one feels like a better fit, then you can amp it up with jewelry. I think they’re both lovely.

I loved both dresses . I like the first one best.
I love the dress I picked . But it is outside the box for me a little. It is a rose lightish pink color and fits tighter than I usually wear. I love it. and it is classy and elaborate. It comes with a chiffon jacket that I might not use. Right now it needs some altering as I am smaller on the top than bottom. I would have trouble with anything low cut so that rules out many dresses that show cleavage. (Breast cancer survivor). I just am tired of dressing so I wont look too fat. I don’t look fat in this dress but I am sure a dark color would make me look skinnier. But its not me. I also have had a tendency to wear looser clothes thinking they would hide more but actually I think clothes that are tighter (not tight) are more flattering. Because its a little out of the box for me. I am more insecure. I wore a dress I loved to my D shower and the overall look was fine but I went without sleeves and did not like my arms in the pictures. I am worried I will hate the pictures. ( I am the one you rarely see in pics. ) I know I am overthinking because I rarely notice what moms wear unless its a close friend. I always think everyone looks fine anyway.
Thank you, I agree you will always get so many opinions. The bride likes it.

@fretfulmother Lovely dresses. I will chime in and say I prefer the second. I like the simplicity and the nice draping but you can’t go wrong with either. Pick whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

@fretfulmother That first dress is stunning. You deserve to look stunning. That said, you really have to try on dresses to see if they work. Let us know what you decide.

1 is my taste and I like the color It looks special

So, I went to a fancy, individually owned store yesterday. My g/f said they had many pretty dresses. There wasn’t one I would even try on. Next weekend we will shop together. Meanwhile, I ordered a dress on line, which is peacock blue, a shift, with 3/4 sleeves. The only glam is on edge of sleeves. I doubt it is special enough, but I hope it fits so I have something as a backup.

@HouseChatte @downtoearth @doschicos @toledo @bookworm - Thank you, everyone!! I’m so glad you like the dresses and it sounds like I could be good with either one. That is a relief! Now I have to go try them on (I ordered to the store b/c I like the help of the lady there) and I will report back. And thank you for encouraging me that it’s good to want to look special!

@fretfulmother I don’t think you can go wrong with those dresses! The second is more to my taste, which probably means you should go with the first one.

I think they are both beautiful @fretfulmother. Go with the one that feels best when you try them on.

@fretfulmother both dresses would be nice for MOB or MOG.
I have 2 friends who tried multiple La Femme brand dresses. One of them they fit beautifully the other had issues with the boning and bra area fitting. She had ordered multiple dresses and all of them fit her oddly on top. Several seamstresses told her that they couldn’t alter it. She ended up doing with another brand.
For those who have had their weddings what have you done with your dress. I now have two dresses hanging in my closet that I don’t see myself having an occasion to wear them.

@stradmom @momofsenior1 @mom60 - thank you so much!
So I’ll try them both on either this Thu or Fri (if I go Fri then my sister may be able to join me which would be helpful, but then I have to wait longer haha).
I should add that I seemed to “fit” into the La Femme boning or what have you in a different dress. What now worries me, though, is I looked at the back images. The La Femme model’s tush, which heaven knows is smaller than mine, looks not great in the dress (!) so that worries me. I’ll make sure to check all angles when I try them on!
Regarding what else to do with dresses - I’m also interested in that! There’s one fancy dress I own, that I plan to wear to an upcoming bar mitzvah, and I will buy those “arm tights” to make it more synagogue-ready. (The brand of “arm tights” I found is charmingly (?) named “sleevey wonder” which DH says must be some kind of infringement  )

I like the second dress. It’s so very sophisticated!

Thank you @Marian

I’ve bought 2 fancy Bat Mitzvah dresses ? n last 2 years. One of them I’ve worn 3x, the other 2x. I’m not ready to give these away. All my dresses from 20-15 years ago I gave to the hospital thrift store. They have a separate room for dressy clothes

Out of my “newish” dresses are basicall

I love the first dress, @fretfulmother ! Stunning!

My MOG dress was short and I have worn it on a cruise, a fancy anniversary dinner, and on Mother’s Day. It’s dressy, but not sparkly or too ornate.

My MOB dress is long and I don’t know where I will wear it again. We don’t go to any events that require something long.

Thank you, @jym626 !!

@dentmom4 - regarding events that require long dresses - it must be in the eye of the beholder. Maybe the grocery store? Probably not the OB/gyn hahaha

The first dress looks like it should be worn with a stick on bra (like Nubra) due to the low back. Make sure to check the back when you try it on!
