Congrats on everything, xig!
Congrats to you both!
Congratulations, xiggi. All the planning can get stressful, so fee free to pop back in here anytime, even if it’s just to vent.
Congratulations, xiggi. You need to come back to this thread to keep us updated on your wedding plan. I am sure we can offer you a lot of opinions.
Good luck with your new job too.
Congrats xig! Should we watch for your family to post on the grandparents thread??
@xiggi congratulations…and really, enjoy the wedding planning and wedding. And the return to the workforce.
Just want to vent. D1 is getting married 10/19. She bought her wedding dress on 12/26/18. She was told it would be a special order because she wears a petite size. She received her dress at the end of May and it is beautiful. When she tried it on at the store I didn’t really appreciate the beading on the bodice and all the hand appliqués. It’s strapless and has a sheer back with more appliqués and tiny buttons. She is a blue jeans, t shirt kind of girl, so when she picked this dress I was surprised. DH was also taken aback and told her he wanted to buy the dress and pay for the alterations for her. She took her dress in to be altered and at that point it zipped and buttoned. She is 4’11” so the length had to be adjusted and taken in at the bust. She went to try it on at her second fitting yesterday and it neither zips nor buttons. They estimate it’s about 3” too small. The gap is such that the seamstress told her there’s nothing they can do to fix it. At first they told D1 that the store was not responsible if she gained weight. They remeasured her and they got the same measurements as at her first fitting. Tomorrow (Sunday) the manager of alterations will be in the store and she finds out what will be done about the situation. But even if they refund the money, she still doesn’t have a dress and her wedding is only 3 months out. I know things will work out in the end, but I just feel so bad for D1. She just felt so pretty in this dress. It’s just sad. We offered to drive down to her house tomorrow and go with her to the store with her, but she said no, she would deal with it. Poor kid.
@Chumom - I’m so sorry! What an annoying mess. I can’t believe they blamed DD at first. I wonder how that happened??
MOG dress update! My sister went with me and she didn’t like how either of those earlier candidates fit me, so she found another option that (I think) combined the parts of each that I liked. It’s this one, but in the cocoa-brown color that no longer seems to be listed, but the same color as the classical column gown before:

@chumom have you heard back from your D yet about the conversation she had with the alterations manager?
@fretfulmother that one is lovely!
Gorgeous! Special. Love it.
I’m curious about the alterations manager, too. Sometimes, they can rebuild the missing inches by adding fabric that matches (enough) the rest of the gown.
@stradmom @lookingforward thank you!!
Beautiful dress @fretfulmother
I talked to D this afternoon. The alterations manager said they would “fix it” but didn’t go into any detail. She is to go in Tuesday at 4 for another fitting and see what they can do. I suggested to her that maybe they could order another sheer back panel with the appliqués to replace the one that no longer fits. I also wonder if they can put gussets under the arms to make up for the lost width. We’ll find out Tuesday. D is open to almost any idea. She just doesn’t want to look for another dress.
@Chumom could they add a corseted back? Not sure if it will take away from the design but that is what a young woman I know did in order to wear the beautiful lace gown her grandmother got married in.
Thank you, @deb922 !!
"She was told it would be a special order because she wears a petite size. "
I guess I don’t get how wedding gowns work these days. If the dress was a special order, why did it need so many alterations especially for length? Wouldn’t the wedding dress company make it to her measurements? I remember someone here’s daughter getting a dress made to order in Italy a few years back and it seemed like it was made to fit the bride.
Sorry your daughter has to deal with this extra hassle, @Chumom
@fretfulmother - beautiful dress! Congrats!
@Chumom - so sorry about your DD’s dress. But at least they said they could fix it. It sounds like if her measurements are unchanged its their error, so they should fix it (hopefully in a way that will not be noticeable to anyone outside of the tailor and your DD). That comment to her about “not being responsible if she gained weight” was uncalled for
Hope they apologized when they realized her measurements were unchanged.
