2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 1)

It took D1 few months to send out thank-you notes because she wanted include a picture of guest(s) at the wedding. She wrote each one a person note about the gift.

@greenbutton Yes, that was our flower girl! She was recovered enough to attend, but alas, she balked when the time came! We did get lots of cute pictures, tho.

Also, can I just vent here about false eyelashes? Could not wait to rip those suckers off at the end of the night. The makeup stylist asked me how I usually wear my makeup, and I said I don’t! You can’t say I’m not a good sport.

@juniebug you are a better sport than I am. I was offered false eyelashes and said no. Then I was offered little false eyelash extensions or something…and I said no. They finally gave up and just used good mascara.

@greenbutton I think my GD was the hand/foot/mouth, but she got it a month after D’s wedding. @juniebug ‘s GC was sick, can’t remember with what.

We got D’s pictures 2 weeks ago, but I still haven’t looked at them all. So many! At least 2000. One of the most precious is a closeup of GD looking at the photographer, with partial faces of DIL and S both smiling at her. D and SIL love the pix—she really captured the essence of their day, so worth the money to them. I think the video will be as amazing (the 60 second teaser is incredible)!

False eyelashes?! Wow, you guys deserve a prize! I thought I was a martyr because of 3" heels (at one point our pastor says “you don’t wear those much, do you?”)

S & DIL hired a student to capture video , and I thought that was extravagant. I couldn’t go with them for the fun part of photos (they walked thru town, which is often done here) but today they sent me totally unedited video of the walk. I cried, it made me so happy to see what we missed getting grandparents to the reception. People honk, and shout congrats and all that. Restores your faith in nice people. So go with the video, always.

I might be in the minority but I loved the fake eyelashes I had for both weddings. They were put on as individual lashes versus a full strip. I have never been a big makeup wearer but I loved the makeup I wore for my D’s wedding. The makeup artist listened to me and did a great job of making my skin look beautiful.

I guess it’s real! Save the Dates were received by our guests and my friends emailed and texted to share how cute they are. My FDIL designed them using their engagement photos and I hadn’t seen the final product until I saw it at my eldest S’s house last night when I was babysitting. I forgot to put me on the list for the cards and the invitations - something I will remedy this morning! It really captures their personalities and my hope is their wedding will, too.

And whereas S and DIL took forever to complete their TY notes, S2 and FDIL had all their notes done for gifts received at the engagement party within a few weeks of the event. Bodes well for the wedding, I suspect!

I guess I need to start thinking about what to wear for this wedding! It’s in March so I thought I could wait until after the holidays. Does anyone have thoughts on this timetable?

@runnersmom - I would think you could wait, but I have no expertise in this. My S’s wedding is New Year’s Eve, and I am still trying to lose a few pounds. I started at the end of January, but kind of stalled out in June when my mother passed away, and have been just maintaining the past couple of months. Started back in earnest this past week.

I might look for something new, but I have a dress I wore to a wedding a few years ago that I’ve only worn that one time that I really like. I tried it on last weekend and while I could get it zipped, it would fit better a few pounds lighter.

If you don’t anticipate your size changing, then it probably wouldn’t hurt to look early, though.

Spending a lot of time exploring Chicago. Dinners at night and rehearsal this morning. The rehearsal dinner for out of town guests , tonight, at a pizza place sounds wonderful. Only 99 guests!

I got my dress the end of June the wedding is in 3 weeks. It is all set , altered and everything, MOG ordered hers last Spring and it just came in . I think they send it in the order of when the wedding is. So tell them the wedding is sooner than it actually is.
I was wondering about Junie bugs GD. glad she was recovered, that virus is nasty. We are doing the details but everything so far seems ok.

My D is getting married in late March. It is a garden wedding so I think I want something more Spring-like, and it seems right now most dresses are Fall and Winter, so I will wait a few months. I do have a back-up dress to wear in case I don’t find anything I like better.

@tx5athome check the sale racks. My DDs wedding was in May and I got my dress on the sale rack at Lord and Taylor for a song…in October. It was a spring color (the dress is still being sold) that was discontinued. I was thrilled because it was exactly the color i was looking for!

So…look at the sales!

Fake eyelashes? No way. I’m an eye-phobe. I did my own makeup for D’s wedding. I just don’t like stuff on my face. For S’s wedding, I went to the Bobbie Brown counter at Macy’s (recommended by a friend) and had it done, letting the technician know I never wore anything. It looked great and was very light. I bought everything. I used the same products for D’s wedding, but got a new lipstick.

D1 (bride) opted for no fake lashes as hers were longer than anything they had, plus already dark and full. D2 has long, light brown lashes and also opted out.

Ok. So this is something good plus what did u do on weekend

Well, I saw my son get married. Their roommate made them a chupa which will become a quilt. Each had 3 attendants, but one was a flower girl and another the ring bearer. Speeches were short and focused I have not one thing to pick. I wish I could relive and relive this past weekend over and over .

@bookworm, that is the most wonderful assessment of a wedding I have seen in a long time. I’m so glad it was such a special weekend that will provide you wonderful memories for many days, months, and years to come! Mazal Tov!!
