2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 2)

I know of a casual wedding in a park in Denver where they did the cookie table. (MOG and her friends were baking / freezing lots of cookies for weeks.).

The show Four Weddings would go to an area and have 4 weddings featured, different price points, different religions. When they were in Pittsburgh area there were several weddings that had the cookie tables.

My Pittsburgh cousin’s girls had cookie tables at their weddings … the bride’s mom & her friends made the cookies. What awesome spreads!

DD and SIL had a Venetian Table at their wedding instead of a cake. There were about 10 different kinds of desserts, finger food types. It was amazing. We thought we were going to have 5 or so different desserts, but the chef had different ideas!

The venue people were terrific. We had a friend who was very ill and couldn’t attend the wedding. They made two boxes of assorted goodies and gave them to me to take to her.

Oh…and it did rain the day of DDs wedding, but once the ceremony ended (which was held indoors), no one seemed to care.

@thumper1 -the last wedding I attended had a dessert table like that instead of a traditional cake. I didn’t know it was called a Venetian Table, but I definitely enjoyed it.

Is D2 officially engaged and having a wedding? I remember reading about D1, but must have missed D2.

Yes! She got engaged 3 days before DD1 went into labor and had her baby in December! It’s been a whirlwind but we have wedding planner, venue, band, photographer, videographer, and live guest sketch artist booked. July 2027 wedding date! We are going dress shopping next week.

My husband’s family is Italian. When they were with us, the Nonna’s (who came here from Italy) would make Italian cookie platters that were placed on each wedding table. We also used to receive a box of cookies at Christmastime. I miss those days :beating_heart:

Wow, how does one choose? Big names there.

Can you share more about how this will work? Are they bite sized servings? How many guests do you anticipate? Do you need a separate ballroom just for the desserts? :winking_face_with_tongue:

Also can I have an invite.

  1. Full Sized servings!(we will use some of the left overs at the brunch the next day)

  2. There are 275 on the guest list.

  3. The desserts are displayed around the entire backwall and sides of the ballroom.

  4. Lol. We are at capacity with the 275

Well that’s pretty impressive. Full size? Don’t let the word out or your guests might be stowing some Tupperware in their purse!

I don’t know how I would choose!

Tonight in one of our local resale groups someone was selling what must have been extra wedding favors - well, they said they were. The items were each in a fishnet type drawstring bag. There were 40.

The item? Pizza cutter wheel! :open_mouth: :exploding_head:

We are providing to go containers at the brunch to make sure food doesn’t go to waste.

Two things from my son’s wedding that I thought were brilliant (and that I’ll definitely keep in mind when his two younger sisters get married!):

  1. Rented flowers - The flower arrangements for the ceremony/reception were amazing. They looked real and were a fraction of the cost of real flowers.
  2. ‘Late night’ burgers - McDonalds cheeseburgers delivered at 9:30pm when everyone had been dancing for about an hour and half (reception was 6-11). They were devoured!

My S & DIL rented the vases for the ceremony & reception flowers so didn’t have to transport them to or from venue nor store them.

At high-end Boston wedding, servers came around with small hot beef in bun type of sandwiches during the dancing portion a few hours after the cake.

This was the only wedding we attended where this was done.

At S & DIL’s wedding, there was ramen for all interested guests at end of reception — I had it because it was there.

A late night snack is popular at most of the weddings I’ve been to in the last five years. Slider sized burgers and fries is the most popular. One of my kids had soft serve ice cream and fresh popcorn as the late snack.
