2016 Grammy Awards

^^^One of the best performances, imo.

@Wellspring - the Eagles tribute is already on YouTube!

I have to say that from a technical point of view, this seems like probably the most difficult of the awards show to put on. Think about how you manage all these different acts, egos, technical aspects of the performances, etc. This is much more of a “show” than an awards presentation.

I can’t imagine what it takes to get this thing done. Kudos to those who plan and implement it.

Grrrr, my DH flipped to a rerun of a Trump roast on the Comedy Channel (I was raunchy funny but…) and I missed Bonnie Raitt!

Holy Moly, the 12 year old jazz pianist!

I missed the beginning but unfortunately caught Beiber. Not impressed at all thought his dancing looked amateurish and his voice is so namby pamby. Adele did not sound good. She sounded as if she was straining and was off. Loved Gaga in her Bowie tribute. My favorite so far was the Bonnie Raitt/Chris Stapelton/Gary Clark Jr. Tribute to BB King- what talent.

I agree about Bieber’s dancing. It wasn’t good hut also wasn’t bad enough to be ironic.

I actually just turned it off. Overall disappointing. Of the people I was excited to hear I thought Adele sounded off and thought Lady Gaga might have paid a more moving tribute if she had done one Bowie song really well. I did enjoy Jackson Browne/Eagles and Hamilton is amazing (I have tix in July —yay).

Did Bruno Mars start cheering before Uptown funk was announced as the winner?

Now I understand all the press about Kanye West’ s recent antics. He wasn’t at the Grammys. He Isn’t relevant and he is trying to upstage Taylor Swift again ( with his song lyrics and front page splash asking Zuckenberg for a billion dollars)

Sadly, her speech is being tied into Kanye so I guess, in a way, he still found his way into the show.

  1. He is relevant. 2) She threw shade at him. 3) I think their stuff is coordinated.

. Time will tell.

I loved Adele’s concert on NBC that aired in December. She sang All I Ask as part of that show and commented on what a hard song it was to sing at that time. I was surprised that she was singing that one live as the song began and then really disappointed by the sound issues. Lighting was not good either. You could tell by her face that it wasn’t going well. I also thought the sound quality was poor for the beginning of Taylor Swift’s opening as her voice wasn’t coming through, IMO. I guess it is really hard to manage sound for a live show. Love the new bob on TS, but she always looks good.

Hamilton was amazing. I am a bit jealous of all the CC friends who have shared their ticketed plans in the other thread.

I thought Ritchie looked a bit odd with that jet black hair. He should know that fans don’t give a hoot about gray hair in a 66-year old man. The woman from Alabama Shakes looked great with her short curly hairdo. Like she and her band since I saw them on SNL a few years ago.

The only comment I have is that I really liked Beyonce’s speech on “unapologetic art”. What with all the noise some people made about her song “Formation”, it sent a clear message: I’m not sorry and I have no regrets.

I’m not an Adele fan but she usually sounds better live. And was it just me or did Bruno Mars sort of yell before Record of The Year winner was announced?

I also agree with @Youdon’tsay I think the Swift/Kanye thing is coordinated between the two.

Just as I thought, the highlights would be shown to me via news feeds and Today Show. My sister was texting me during the show…she watched to see the Jackson Browne / Eagles tribute to Glen Frey and found it disappointing. I have low expectations when it comes to watching aging rockers perform when their voices are no longer what they once were

I was glad to see The Alabama Shakes win…Brittany Howard sure has some pipes !

Other than that, I wasn’t particularly interested in much of the music or nominees. I don’t listen to the radio, but use Pandora / Apple Radio . This limits my exposure to most mainstream and pop music.

I don’t care much for performers interjecting their politics into any show. People have enough to be angry about by watching news

Just watched for Hamilton. Otherwise, a pretty boring show. (Must admit that I dozed toward the end.)

Dull dull dull and some bad cosmetic surgery on some of them.

Gosh, I disagree about music and politics. Music has long been a way to break down social barriers and a vehicle for change.

I haven’t watched the Eagles/Jackson Browne thing yet, and may not as I understand it was hurried and the sound wasn’t all that good. But I can say that Jackson Browne’s voice was in great shape in late November when I saw him in concert. In fact, I think age has improved it. But I don’t think he was ever celebrated as a great singer. More as a singer/songwriter. I wish I had seen the Eagles recently; now I never will. But I did see them in 1979, not that I remember much about it.

Youdon’tstay, I grew up watching the Smothers Brothers, so I have always thought that politics goes hand in hand with the music.
