2016 Trending

The year 2016 is trending on social media right now the trend (according to AI) “ 2016 is trending now, in early 2026, because of a massive TikTok trend where users embrace a nostalgic, simpler time before the pandemic, AI saturation, and hyper-curated feeds”

I’m seeing it on more sites than TikTok.

Sigh. Those were the days.

What describes 2016 for you? What were you doing, where were you living, what were you wearing - anything! Hoping you have some good 2016 memories to share.

We began our “new to us” house search in 2016 (closing was in 2017). We have looked at more than 50 properties in our quest for the one that was “just right.”

2016 was our first full “empty nest” year - our last graduating high school in 2015.

My son and DIL were planning their wedding! :clinking_glasses:

We still had our cottage in :canada: (miss you babe!)

I was doing some 5k races - one in particular I did with my son was a summertime “by the moonlight” in a local metropark.

2016 would not be a bad year to go back to!

We were in the middle of building the college list! Still living in OH.

Oh, I did forget about THAT.

I was referencing the home life, the lesser addiction to tech…

The moment I see something is “trending” I look away.

I was still working and my house was still filled with 3 teenage boys and their appetites and activities. My Facebook memory today was from 2016 - the day my twins got their driving learners permits and I was anticipating many hours in the passenger seat clutching the door handle and pressing my foot into the floor mat.

With regards to my daughter/oldest child: “Accepted Student Visits” at various colleges and universities; high school graduation; college move in

With regards to my son/youngest child: the initial round of college visits (grudgingly undertaken by said child)

Yeah, when I think of 2016, I think of it as the start of the “hold my beer” years. And this video:

(If it’s not allowable, google “man who slept through 2016”)

It was also our first empty-nest year. I had a software support job that was super busy and stressful. Nonetheless in Feb 2016 I was put on the “layoff list” (but #7 with that fate in my department over a period of a few years, so I knew it would be a possibility). Phew - At the last minute I was able to get a transfer to a sister department in another division of same big corporation. My new manager was in Europe timezone. Work was still stressful, but the paychec and benefits kept coming. VERY happy to be retired since 2020.

My emphasis on fitness did not start until 2017. Lost 20 pounds, gained an interest in nutrition (and still track food). Not sure I would have stuck with it without the info and encouragement from my CC pals

Can we go back to 2008 instead?

2016 was the year I began running and made a whole bunch of friends in the running community. It was the last year in which my parents were both alive and living in their house. It was before I had the incident at work ( which I have described on cc in detail) which gutted me.

I have had many personal losses since then.

Well, our kids were doing well in school that year.

Otherwise, I too would rather forget that 2016 ever happened. I am happy to have it long gone and barely even in the rear view mirror.

But the repeat is even worse.

I hadn’t discovered the CC. So clearly I did nothing and had less of a life than I do now.

Ugh, 2016 definitely sticks out in my memory, and not in a good way. My mother (7 hours away) was increasingly declining, ending with her death in hospice in December. Both D’s broke up with long term bf/fiance. D2 learned she couldn’t graduate with her class due to a couple missing credits. D1 started her job as a school counselor in the fall, and pretty much immediately had to deal with scared immigrant/refugee students, and weirdly, some kind of scary clown situation. Other than that, just peachy.

Oh, gosh, I hope I didn’t kill the thread with my downer of a post. Those were all just stuff that happens to everyone all the time, it’s just that for our family, it seemed like 2016 was a magnet year for everything to hit the fan.
