2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@SCtrojanlove I am also at UCSB with the TTP and applying for Marshall lol

@malpais that’s hopeful. When I went to transfer day or whatever at USC they told me not completing GEs wasn’t a make or break they care more about the amount of credits you have because they don’t want to let someone in as a junior and then it takes them 3 years to finish. I don’t know how true that is though because they also said they don’t care about extracurriculers which I’ve heard is not true at all. I hope they don’t care about GEs for 4 year students b/c I have a bunch of credits from SFSU but only the math and English GE done.

Did anyone else apply for SDA (Dramatic Arts)?

Is it possible for transfer applicants to receive a TTP offer in their rejection letter? (like a sophomore or junior transfer applicant) Or is this something offered exclusively to first-year applicants?

@user98 a sophomore applicant in the Cornell thread got it, so maybe

Here’s an email from my regional admissions counselor at USC, totally forgot about this but I guess it could serve as sort of a check list. @lasloth what they told you about ECs is correct, they do not increase one’s chance of admission. However, they do help the admissions counselor to get a better idea for who exactly the applicant is that they’re reviewing, which is a small, but nice advantage to have.

"Hi ____,

The main reasons that transfer students are denied are:
-they have not satisfied our math or writing requirement
-they have mostly taken courses that are not relevant to their major or general education
-they have not been enrolled full-time
-they have not earned mostly A’s
-they have applied to a talent based major and were not selected by that committee

It seems like you are already on the path to being a competitive applicant. At this point, I would recommend working hard to get strong grades in the college courses you selected!

Best,

I’m not sure how much more any of you will get out of that than out of what you already know, but my counselor was very willing to give me advice so that I could plan my semesters accordingly, and I highly doubt she would straight up lie to me lol

@user98 Transfer applicants are not offered TTP as a soph or jr applicant, it is only offered to high school seniors/rising college freshman.

OMG! GUYS I WENT TO PICK UP MY MAIL RIGHT NOW, aaaaanndddd… NOTHING FROM USC. sigh…

Super helpful thank you @penntousc ! It seems like under that criteria they should let anyone with good grades and major prep or GE courses in so maybe we’re all going to get in haha

@lasloth I think that’s where maybe the essays and location (geographically) come in as underlying factors… however, it seems that there are a good amount of people rejected each year simply because they didn’t do enough research. There’s a lot of applicants who either have a lower GPA, a small of amount of GEs, W’s, missing major requirements, etc.

@pomeranian4rich My friend is going into dornislife as a Psych major. Thats all she wanted me to share

@tc20498 I applied to SCA for film production! What major are you going for?

@penntousc I’m starting to really freak out about my GEs, my major (PPL/Philosophy) had no major requirements but I’ve taken 9 philosophy classes (major prep) and have like 60ish credits so I feel like if some of my classes should count as GEs since they were GEs in the CSU system.

Do sophomore applicants have a lower chance to get in?

@pomeranian4rich I think you posted earlier about your friend’s acceptance to USC but I’m unable to locate the post. I was wondering whether it mentioned if she was a sophomore or junior applicant. I’m also a Dornsife applicant majoring in psychology and will have 61 credits completed by spring. I’m wondering if things are looking bad for my situation.

Ahhh just got my ACCEPTANCE!!! I posted over the weekend that I got an email about my financial aid status and just got the package in the mail today!! :0 goodluck everyone, hope to meet you all at orientation!!

What school are you in?

wake me up when someone gets accepted for viterbi…

@penntousc speaking of the essays, how much “weight” do you think they have in the admissions process? I know that USC looks at applicants holistically, but would you say that essays/ the short answer responses make/ break an application?
