2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

If I don’t get an SGR by April 29th or end of this week, does it mean it’s most likely gonna be a rejection?

@Skepta a lot of people got in last year after receiving SGRs in May

@penntousc yess that’s good to hear haha there’s still hope, I was getting nervous cuz both my friends who transferred last year got their SGRs late April.

@Skepta yeah I was really hoping to get something by the end of this month but it’s not looking likely lol

UCLA is an amazing school. It’s just that USC seemed more welcoming, the students genuinely looked happy to be there, and the campus was so beautiful. I’d just rather be somewhere where I’ll be comfortable living in since I’ll be traveling across the country if I’m accepted. Plus their Comm program is amazing, and the courses I had to take conflicted. UCLA said take as many comm courses as possible before transferring but USC said not to and focus on major related courses after transferring. Plus UCLA seemed like they were discouraging me from applying, saying it’s “extremely difficult” to transfer to the Comm major every time I’d ask them a question about the program. I would’ve applied to both if I could’ve, but I chose USC. That’s just my take since we were talking about it haha Fight On!

@ashurikko completely agree with the whole welcoming thing… I actually wasn’t able to visit since I’m so far away, but I’ve heard nothing but good things so I felt like it’d be the best option

@itslife123 Good point, thank you for the reply!

I have mixed feelings about the statement that “UCLA” has a much better CS Program". If you’re looking for a a more theoretical route for CS, then UCLA is the place to go. For more hands on CS, I believe USC does better. As for as collaboration goes, I heard USC is really good with this so it really depends what you want.

I don’t know much about CS but I don’t think it’s any mystery that USC has a better CS program… they do very, very well compared to other schools when it comes to job placement in the Tech Industry, and people severely underrate the impact that school size has on learning ability and employment opportunities. Also don’t know too much about UCLA though, so idk

For UCLA’s 4 percent CS acceptance rate, I think it’s overrated. Some of these geniuses who get in should be going to CAL Berkeley instead, cuz their CS program is on a whole nother leve.

I wonder if the admissions decisions come out based on counselors? Or is it just based on the applied school?

Have been reading around this forum for a while now and finally decided to join. So im a CC sophmore, Business Ad major and still waiting on my descion. Wondering if anyone heard back from Southern California area, specifically with Hilliary Higgens as their counselor?

I applied to Marshall and am from a cc in San Diego. Haven’t heard back yet.

I did not like any aspect of UCLA. Beautiful campus but I don’t really like Beverly Hills. Staff was not helpful, drove 2 hours for my girlfriend to ask questions only to be told “advisors don’t speak to you unless your a student”. Extremely pushy on their brand…just didint have my type of feel.

@transfer201517 I’m in Southern Cal, but without Hillary Higgins as my counselor, because of the CC I attend, but Hillary Higgins is great if you have any questions to ask her/call her.

Also, I haven’t heard back yet.

Hi @zettasyntax!
This course is quantitative reasoning for sociology also known as sociological analysis. It was recommended for UCLA to take at my cc but I didn’t because I’ve been maxed out on units and felt like I didn’t really need to take it. I’m just scared because I don’t feel confident for USC anymore.

@penntousc Yeah USC I think is a lot better for OOS transfers. Except the possibility of not getting housing of course haha

@transfer201517 I’m not sure if this will help but I have Hillary Higgins but I haven’t heard back. I’m OOS though

@Skepta too early to think that. I didn’t get a sgr last year until the 1st or 2nd week of May.

I just got another email from USC financial aid asking for further documents once more :frowning:
