2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@IwcWombat hahah i didn’t know you go there too!

@pomeranian4rich Any conditions of acceptance? :slight_smile:

@itslife123 no conditions of acceptance but it does say “admission is contingent upon verification of official academic records, satisfactory completion of course work, and avoidance of academic and behavioral misconduct”

Nothing else was related to the courses I am taking this semester. I think I will get more information on my portal once it updates this weekend.

Is there a huge problem if I’m only missing one GE? I have two in progress this semester but as they’re easier classes, I should be able to get an A :o I’m only missing Poli Sci!

@pomeranian4rich The statement satisfactory completion of course work is quite vague…does that mean just getting C’s and above? Oh and I forgot to say, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

@itslife123 not too sure Haha it is vague

@HeirOfLincoln People seem to believe that Dornsife majors are “easier” to get into than others. The individual schools don’t release the average GPA of their applicants; it’s done for applicants university-wide. I’ve recently heard tour guides say that no one major is “necessarily” any harder than any other to get into. However, I would personally believe that the performance/media majors are more difficult than the others to get into since you need a portfolio and whatnot. Also, I think the dance school only had like 20 students their first year, so that’s an example of a really small program, lol :stuck_out_tongue: Anyway, I think that if you complete major prep, GEs, etc and are as close to the 3.7 average, no one major is stricter than any other in terms of what they expect :slight_smile:

@pomeranian4rich Congrats on your acceptance!! Just curious, what were your stats last year when u applied?

@C0l1egegirl my stats is on the stats page and my transcript is on there

@Shuisazn
Ahhh…. I’m so tired of waiting, too! I’ve been in CC for too long, too! This is actually my second time applying to USC. Blargh, I just really hope I get in this time. And, yes, let’s all meet up if we all get in!!! I used to live out of state, but I live in Socal now!!! So, it is very feasible to meet up if most people are in socal LOL

@TheWorrisomeGirl second time is the charm! This is my second time applying and I was accepted! Have faith in yourself!

@zettasyntax I happened to read in last year’s thread that Rakin Hall was your counselor. Do you recall how long it was before you heard anything regarding your application, one way or another? I applied to Dornsife for psychology back in mid-late November, but I haven’t received an SGR, or anything for that matter, yet. I did submit a piece of additional information explaining my academic history and reason for part-time status, and he was kind to reply, but I’m beginning to doubt myself, and wonder if they think I am ridiculous for applying. :frowning:

@millaportman He was my counselor in 2014. I had a different counselor in 2015. Did anybody else applying again get a new counselor? I’m assuming maybe it’s standard practice.

Anyway, with Rakin, I heard back (SGR) in late April, so around this time. He sent me an email saying he needed to see my grade in math. Some counselors seem to be nicer than others in various areas. I remember a user named posionx (or something like that) was part-time (or even less than part-time for his final semester, if I recall) and his counselor told him it was fine. Have you completed most of the requirements? I think my issue was that I still had my transferable math in-progress, but I thought it was beyond harsh that I got rejected for getting a B in it, lol.

@pomeranian4rich

I hope so! This time I applied to UCs and only got into UCI. It’s also demoralizing that last year I applied with a higher GPA (3.92) vs this time with a lower GPA 3.85. But, I think I have a better chance since I decided to apply as a narrative studies major vs applying to SCA.

@zettasyntax Oh, wow! I didn’t realize you had him so long ago. I must’ve misread that. As far as my requirements go, I will have finished my IGETC as of this spring, I have completed Intermediate Algebra and Statistics, and I am currently taking Research Methods for my major requirement. I believe I’ve completed nearly all the transferable GE’s that are possible. Unfortunately, I have been a part-time student at a cc my entire time due to financial constraints. Perhaps they doubt my ability to handle a full course load. I would be entering as a junior.

@TheWorrisomeGirl I wouldn’t worry so much since your gpa is still above the average gpa of 3.7!

@millaportman Yeah, he didn’t have his Masters of Education yet when he was my counselor :stuck_out_tongue: I think you’re in a pretty good spot if you’ve already completed stats. That’s like the most import course for a lot of the non-hard sciences. How long have you been at CC? That’s definitely an understandable situation. I took a whopping total of 3 courses my first year at CC because I didn’t qualify for a class fee waiver at first. Maybe they would understand. I wish you the best of luck. One of the friends I’ve made at USC is a psych major and she just loves her professors. She says they are so organized and make it clear about what they expect :slight_smile:

when do decisions come out?

@jl5678 Decisions are going to trickle out in batches starting this week. A fair number of people have been accepted already :slight_smile:

If anybody wants to cringe, I went to the Senior SCend Off earlier this week and the comedians were awful! One was making jokes about a segregated “but equal” camp for Asians and African Americans. The other guy’s whole act was about how he didn’t have herpes (he had a cold sore). You think with what they charge for tuition, they could hire better entertainment, lol :stuck_out_tongue:

lol anyone here a parks and rec fan? Rewatching the episodes helps with the stress.
