In a 2015 thread, alot of Viterbi students got straight acceptances on May 23rd, so that might be the magic number for us. I know it sucks that Marshall applicants hear first but It’s always been like this anyways. Cheer up my fellow Engineers/CS’ers.
@itslife123 like I said before, I feel Viterbi is way more competitive than Marshall! hahaha they need more time to read Viterbi apps!
@pomeranian4rich Congrats!!! Much deserved Did your portal change as well??
@illuxa thank you no my portal hasn’t change yet. I think it will update in a couple of days
My son checked his portal this morning and saw his decision. He was accepted to Marshall. I am posting his stats, so others can be encouraged. He is currently a sophomore at Ohio State and is a direct admit and in the Business Scholar program majoring in finance at the business school…he has a 3.87 GPA and graduated summa cum laude in hs, ranked in the top 3% in hs, with a 30 ACT but not sure they looked at hs GPA/ACT scores. He was very involved at OSU…leadership in the business fraternity, analyst in the finance club, scholar program and worked summers in hs as an intern for a law office, interned in marketing last summer for a sports company and is interning this summer with a sports team. He didn’t decide to transfer till recently and sent in his application at the beginning of April…sent an email explaining and asked for a deadline extension…he was granted an application extension at Georgetown too…never sent recommendations. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear!
That applicant seems very qualified, but seriously lol what’s going on with the applications of the people that actually applied on time??? I’m not expecting a decision, but likely an SGR… I’m completely dumbfounded that people who apply in December and January are forced to wait months and months and months for a decision, meanwhile a guy who applies 2+ months late gets in after only a few weeks of waiting…
@zettasyntax I’m the one who is interested in sports media! I actually met with the Director (Professor Daniel T. Durbin) of the Institute of Sports, Media & Society. I didn’t know about the minor of Sports Media Industries, so that is really good to know! Thank you!
I got an “additional information required” e-mail from the Financial Aid office this morning. Anyone else?
@arteest1 Yes, I’m the girl who is interested in sports media! Thank you for guiding me to @zettasyntax post!
@amaryllis85 Same I think it’s a general mass email to anyone with missing documents
@Amaryllis85 @IwcWombat I also got an email requesting an explanation for gaps in my educational history
@OCCtoUSC I had to explain my educational gaps as well, but I did that on the extra portion of the supplemental essay and also recently submitted further reasons for my college inconsistencies.
At this point, is getting a decision through the mail or portal first more realistic? It seems so random this year. Last year, most people I know that got into Marshall heard today via portal.
@jonathaanv I think the people that are in CA or in surrounding LA areas hear by mail first depending on when the package is sent out… pretty sure those who are out of state see it on the portal first. There’s been a few cases this year so far that have completely contradicted that though, so I guess it’s sort of up in the air.
@jonathaanv where do you live? I live about an hour away from USC and received my package first before my portal even updated. If you live out of state your portal will update in a couple of days(mine isn’t updated yet… ugh) Your stats are as qualify as mine so I think you’ll def. getting in!
I think that a bunch of Marshall acceptances were sent out by mail on April 27th and I received mine the day after, April 28th.
@crazyboymom congrats to your son!! You should post his stats here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1978775-usc-fall-2017-transfer-students-stats-decisions-only-p1.html?new=1
@penntousc yeah I found that quite weird lol. I’d expected that he would be the last app to be reviewed because of the two month late submission. I wouldn’t worry too much about your sgr, I didn’t received mine until the second week of May last year
@pomeranian4rich I live in the Bay Area so I’d assume it would take about two days with priority shipping if I did get in. If not, then next week for sure.
Congrats once again, I’m literally banking on Marshall as of right now because I’m just not into UCLA business economics having got in already. Paul Merage (UCI) is my backup at this point, unless I have a change of heart.
@pomeranian yeah the wait sucks but I’m not worried, I’ll be happy as long as I get it by mid-May… I completely agree though, not a knock on the dudes qualifications but considering there’s tons of competitive junior applicants who applied on time and are still waiting, I just think it’s a little odd that someone who applied so late received a decision after only a few weeks
Also this question has been asked already, but I usually read new posts quickly and go on with my day so I might have missed the answer.
Does USC look at your overall GPA (w/ non transferable classes) or just transferable classes (aka any class with 100+ in the course number)? I have a 3.79 overall GPA and a 3.86 UC transferable GPA so that would help my chances. Thanks in advance.
Ugh since I also live about an hour away from USC, I should be expecting it by mail, but I keep checking my portal…the struggle is real
