@Shuisazn I feel you. I live like thirty minutes away and I keep refreshing the portal so frequently.
I keep having mood swings with whether or not I have confidence in my application. This emotional rollercoaster!

@pomeranian4rich congrats on Marshall!!! I had a question, when you got denied last year did you specify any alternate major, like Econ? I’m really hoping to get in to Marshall, but would at least settle for Econ.
Hey guys! This morning I got a notification from financial aid saying that I’ve been considered an independent for financial aid at usc. I’m trying not to think that means anything towards acceptance but I’m not sure. What do you guys think?
@BusinessBrah Thank you! Yes, Econ was my alternative major.
@pomeranian4rich just read all your stats dude that’s crazy you went to Arcadia high school im located more on the east side from you (mount sac) but that high school has some crazy smart kids. You definitely made a change from high school to college like I did (straight B and C student)
Does anyone know if any rejections have been released yet?
@pantafootball2 crazy smart students! i agree! some of my high school friends who were from arcadia high school are now at pcc and striving for top elite universities. One of them got accepted to USC and UCB Haas yesterday but still waiting on Upenn Wharton. It’s crazy how there are really talented and smart ppl out there and they have all my admiration haha.
@usctransferivc most rejections are sent at the end of May
Speaking of alternative major, has anyone heard or know of a story where an applicant was admitted for their second-choice major? How common is it for an applicant to be admitted into their second-major?
@pomeranian4rich Did you get accepted into Econ as your alternative major last year?
@pomeranian4rich thanks.
So I was reading that when you initially got rejected, other students with 3.4-3.8 gpas were admittted to Marshall because they had most of their GE’s completed.
Based on what you’ve seen in the past, do you think I have a shot at admission despite my 3.57 gpa?
(I realize this is not much information and that you can’t say for certain, but I’m just curious to hear your opinion!)
Thanks and congrats!
Did anyone else’s financial aid change? Mine used to say “pending, no action required,” now it’s " application in review"
@usctransferivc Do well your Spring Semester and you should have a good shot. I’m 100% certain you’ll get a Spring Grade Request, so finish strong.
@user98 I was accepted for my alternate major choice of sociology. To be honest, I only put that down because my CC seems to send a lot of sociology transfers to USC. My first choice was anthropology as I had been taking a lot of anthro courses. My intention was always to switch into linguistics (I’m a comp ling major now), but it’s just so hard to find ling courses at CC’s. So I went with the anthropology route since it’s somewhat of a related discipline. I had 5 anthro courses completed and only 1 sociology course (the intro course). I found it insane that I was accepted for my alternate major when I had more major courses for my first choice. And I also doubt that anthropology is “impacted” and somehow ran out of space.
On another note, in the 2014 thread, there was this girl who applied for SCA, but she was accepted as Undecided/Dornsife, which wasn’t even one of her choices.
It doesn’t seem all that common for USC to admit students based on their second choice and even less common to offer Undecided (even though they do consider all applicants for it).
My GPA is pretty low for USC, it’s about 3.67 Overall and I’m a sociology major- Dornsife applicant; I am a junior applicant with 63 Transferable credits, I have 5 sociology classes completed towards my AA-T in soc. I recently emailed my admissions counselor about all the great changes in my ECs, awards, and honors. I recently got inducted to PTK honor Society, scored two internships as a Law clerk this summer. And I also have several other achievements. Does anyone know if that will be accounted immediately? I hope it can at least impress the admissions couneslor to see that I am already working on experience towards my major. I eventually plan to apply to Law School so I have pretty big things going on right now.
@zettasyntax thanks for the response! if you don’t mind me asking, did you apply as a sophomore or junior at the time? Also, what was your GPA? thanks!
@user98 no I wasn’t accepted to my alternative major.
@usctransferivc if I can recall correctly, I was only notified through mail. You have to check your portal daily to order to find out you got a sgr. I was mailed a sgr a few days after I found it on my portal. Yes I think you have a shot for at least Sprint admit 2018 if not fall 2017. Most sgr applicants usually get spring admit unless they’re TTP which they all get fall admits. Be expected to hear back late in mid-July. From last year thread I remember seeing people who had similar stats as you and to my surprise they were accepted before I even heard back. They had low gpa 3.4 - 3.6 and I honestly thought I would have a higher chance because I got a 4.0gpa in spring while they had several B’s and maybe one C in a prereq. I can’t really figure out what goes through the admission committees mind but they can be unpredictable sometimes hahahahaha
How many GEs do they like for us to have done? So far, I have completed 4 and I have 1 in progress. So after this semester, I will have completed 5/8. The ones I’m missing are the physical science requirement, social analysis one and the diversity one, but the social analysis and diversity one can be combined if you take the correct classes. Adding to that, I will also have the foreign language requirement completed after this semester. I have all my pre reqs completed for my major with an A in all of them. I will be entering with 57 credits
should I be worried if I haven’t heard anything from Marshall yet? (an admission decision or request for spring grades) I’m a sophomore transfer with a 4.0 college gpa
