@tankle104 That’s cool! I was only there for two classes though. I completed 100 quarter units at a CSU
@nayu917 If the deposit fees worry you, you’re gonna be alot more worried about USC’s tuition…
@nayu917 yes if you have a pre req 99% youll get SGR, if not most likely a rejection. Hope you get a notification
I’m glad I am not taking any pre reqs this semester. So I should be getting just a letter saying “sorry” or “congratulations”. Hopefully it hurries up. I had to write a letter explaining why I had a gap of not going to school for a little bit. Since that is the last thing, maybe I’ll hear back soon. I’m estimating end of next week.
Not true @tankle104 you can still get SGR’ed.
@tankle104 yeah thats the nice part about getting the pre reqs done first.
@uscbabe1 did you take a 4th semester language class? I’m taking Spanish 3 this semester, and sincer that is the only pre-req for IR shown in the articulation agreement with Smc, I have a feeling I might get an SGR. Also, I believe I’ve read somewhere that we can take the language class after transferring so I’m not really sure where i stand or what to expect…
@itslife123 Yeah? what makes you say that? do they check for more things than just pre reqs with an SGR?
@itslife123 not that it worries me, I just cringe when I waste money when I don’t need to
Hey. So I am seeing that a lot of individuals have received their acceptance letters or SGR. I applied to Dornsife as a Sociology major. Is it bad sign that I have not heard back from USC? How competitive is Sociology at USC?
@sabkam IR is not my first choice major, but it is my second choice major in my application. I got an SGR today
@tankle104 You never know with Admissions, 4.0 students who finished all prereqs before their last semester got them as well, maybe to just check you aren’t slacking. I guess time will tell.
@aileen33445533 tyty
This is only my first year at CCC but I already have all my GEs done and practically finished all business classes here. If Writ150 hadn’t filled up so quickly last semester, I wouldn’t be in this situation right now ;(
@HarvardJones Thanks lol I was hoping I’d at least find out if I got a SGR or not by now considering how many other applicants have gotten them already
@tankle104 I think your biggest issue here is with the definition of EC’s which you cleared up…however, EC’s are considered (by definition) extra things you do at school besides your studies. Work experience is something else entirely. If your applying to business school with a 3.7 gpa but rose to management positions without a degree, it can justifiably trump a candidate that just went to school with a 3.9 and was president of the student council or whatever. This is besides the fact that age also plays a role, it’s easier for a 19 year old living at his parents house or living off loans to pull off a 3.9/4.0 over say someone that is 25 who is already going against social norms and making life changes at an age that most people settle for what they have. There are just so many factors in play, however “EC’s” (school activities/volunteering) is the least important…from the info I have heard/gathered/my opinion.
@SMCSociology I’ve been keeping up with this thread for a while and I’ve heard mixed things about how competitive each school is. Some say that it doesn’t matter but others say that Marshall and Viterbi are pretty hard to get into. I’m not completely sure to be honest but I know someone who got in to Dornsife with a 3.5, which is below average so there’s hope
@elokinikole14 My friend got rejected Viterbi CS last year but got into Math at Dornsife this year. There surely is a correlation to the school. I have a 4.0 and I’m still skeptical because Viterbi is just SO competitve.
@itslife123 what’s your friends stats, if you don’t mind me asking? I applied for Political Science at Dornsife and it seems like Dornsife is easier to get into compared to Viterbi, but I’m not gonna assume that hahaha but hope you get in, you have way better GPA than i do lol
@elokinikole14 He had a 3.7 which is exactly the USC wide “average gpa” .From past threads, I’ve noticed that, even with gpa’s slightly lower than the average, I have seen countless Dornsife applicants get in, which I’m assuming is good news for you. Anyways,Best of luck! I’m sure you will hear back soon, and hopefully with good news at that
Hey I just got my financial aid updated in the portal. Looks like USC is cheaper than Michigan by $1k exactly! They gave me a $38k grant, $11k in student loans and my parents are covering the remaining $23k. USD (my current university) costs my parents $30k every year in the form of a parent loan so this is a win-win for us!
