2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@bugajskj yeah that’s why I haven’t been too concerned with hitting a certain GPA mark. Better to strive for a 4.0 and do the best you can, that way you have one less thing to worry about with your application.

@usc2563 @millaportman Hey guys. I am a dornslife applicant & got SGR on Monday. One of the first ones to hear back.

USC’s official account just commented this on reddit:

“Hi! The admission decision date for transfer students who apply by the February deadline is early June and those students either receive a request for spring grades or the actual decision.”

Early June…… the wait is driving me crazy.

Hey everyone! Sorry for being MIA, ive been “lurking” this thread for a while now but too busy to keep up with the conversations, i think its finally time i tune in.

I noticed a lot of you have been uncertain regarding the way the admissions process works. I met with the associate dean of the school which im applying to at USC and i remember her telling me about how transfer and undergrad students are under the jurisdiction of the central admissions office. Meaning that the schools we apply to dont review our applications. While each school does have their own admissions counselors, those counselors are in charge of graduate admissions.

Another thing i have been noticing on here is a lot of loss of hope! Dont lose hope, i have been on these forums for years now as this is my second time applying after getting an SGR last year and ultimately getting denied admission. Very few decisions come out around this time but just keep holding on until May 26th, thats when decisions “avalanche” their way out the central admissions office. Its usually around/after May 26th that many decisions begin to come out. For now, it may just be decisions they probably have no doubt in that they finalize and release. Basically what im saying is DONT LOSE HOPE ITS TOO EARLY.

Also, i noticed a discussion regarding GPA, requirements completed, and EC’s. What i love about USC is that they look at the big picture. In my opinion GPA is most important, if your GPA is strong and your requirements have been completed then consider yourself a likely applicant. Its sort of like a trickle down effect, suppose one or the other is not too great, then they will resume to look at your essays and EC’s or vice-versa. Remember, the admissions office is not here looking for a reason to reject us, they are here looking for a reason to admit us. Just give them a reason to believe that you are going to bring a good name to their school by providing you with their resources and you should have no reason to doubt yourself.

@shayanvafaee if you don’t mind me asking, how were your spring grades when you submitted them last year? I currently have all A’s and 1 B and I’m afraid that they won’t be satisfied with that and end up rejecting me lol

@elokinikole14 I’m in the same boat as you with my current grades, so I understand that stress! unfortunately, I haven’t gotten an SGR or anything yet.

No worries! I ended up with a B in poli sci which was a new requirement for students beginning CC after 2015 (i didnt need to fulfill this requirement but went ahead and did it anyway), a B in Microbio which was not a required class for me (under 1% away from an A), and a C in General Chemistry 2. I previously earned an A in General Chemistry 1. I was having a very rough semester and the semester prior i had earned a B in Calc 1 and A’s in Calc 2 and a GE course. I took Calc 1 and 2 in the same semester, it was part of a fast paced program. I knew i would be rejected after earning those spring grades so it was no surprise to me. You should be fine, SGR’s come down to many factors such as how many students end up committing to the school after recieving their admission package and other variables. Many students with 4.0’s in their spring semester have been rejected. SGR’s are very tricky theres no way to determine whether or not you will be admitted or not but always remember that its better to get an SGR than a flat out rejection. Earning your SGR is one step closer to your admission so you deserve a congratulations!! Now keep pushing for strong grades and hope for the best.

@elokinikole14 I got a SGR. Coming from a state school. Same boat as you!

@elokinikole14 ^^^^^ sorry forgot to tag you in that

@shayanvafaee What you say is very insightful, however, Viterbi actually has their own admissions process I believe because the counselors/Directors are the ones who are most qualified to select the Engineers.

@shayanvafaee @itslife123 I’ve also heard conflicting info that it’s depending on the school that the process differs. Would you mind sharing what school you’re applying to?

@Jesus0512 Thanks for the info! Are you an incoming sophomore or junior?

@millaportman I am an incoming junior!

Am I the only one still getting mail for WINTER grade requests?
(Also, I called them up and told them I sent them. Turns out they FORGOT to check the box saying that I sent in my winter grades  )

ttp here. 3.8 winter grades. Haven’t heard anything. Dornsife. 3.8 spring grades, but transcripts not available until the 19th. Hoping to get them in before getting SGR so I don’t have to wait for next review.

has anyone else noticed that barely any annenberg applicants (like 3 total) from the past two years have commented their stats on the admissions stats pages??hmm

@usc2563 I don’t know if you’re asking me, but I’m Viterbi. And I’m pretty sure I’m right, because this explains why Viterbi is always latest, when getting back to us. Also all my friends have all heard back from USC and now i’m pissed lol.

@dreamschool211 yeah i was looking at that earlier… not a lot to learn from haha. But I guess it’s because Annenberg hears late.

@itslife123 I meant the other person I tagged! haha, I tagged you because I was agreeing with what you said.

@itslife123 I wonder if that’s the case. I’m only saying that because when I applied in 2014, my admission counselor told me that he needed to see my spring grade in math because it was very important to Viterbi. I knew there was no way in heck I’d get into Viterbi; I just had a programming background and hoped for a miracle with that one, lol. My other choice was Undecided/Dornsife. Anyway, to me it would only seem like the performing arts and such have their own admission process since they have to evaluate portfolios whereas the counselors don’t need technical knowledge of any major at all; they just need to know the requirements of the major =\ I should have asked my major’s advisor, haha. He used to work as an admission counselor for USC before becoming an advisor.

Also, because in my experience with Viterbi professors, it seems like they’re all uber busy, so I would assume that the faculty is the same way and would only have time for the graduate students, lol. I don’t know for sure myself though =\
