The email for Norman Topping Scholarship doesn’t mean anything unfortunately… I got it when I applied in high school and got rejected. It’s for first generation college students which is why some people got the email and some didn’t…
Wish it meant something though…
I would say it is a good sign. Some people did not get it. The USC scholarship department would not waste time on sending emails to prospective students that are not going to get in, even though it says something else on email… Just my opinion.
Yup Ik for sure it doesn’t mean anything because with a 4.0 I can’t be rejected just like that, without even an SGR :’)
They mainly target first-generation students or minorities, so that might be more of the motivation for people that received it - unless it was sent out to everybody. I recall when I applied for the scholarship, one of the questions literally asks if you’ve attended certain community colleges; guess students from those areas are of particular interest. Also, I just used most of my admissions essay and that got me called in for an interview. I didn’t end up getting the scholarship though.
Did everyone get the USC Topping Scholarship application email? (Financial aid applicants only)
**note: I haven’t received my decision yet
@mellyjune That makes sense then! I’m not a first generation college student (but I am a minority–do Asians still count as a minority? LOL) and I didn’t get an email. Was about to freak out since I didn’t get one oop
@Shuisazn hahaha no worries! It’s mostly for first gen and some minorities but it doesn’t mean anything unfortunately… It gets sent out regardless of whether you applied for finaid but you have to be eligible for finaid to qualify for the scholarship.
Truth be told, I soooo wish it did because I’m losing my mind hahaha but the wait should be over soon!!!
Good luck to all of us!!!
Is anyone still waiting on Dornislife?
That email jolted my heart.
@Transfer510 I’m waiting on Dornsife!
Is anyone planning on applying for it?
@ngujo96 if I can find 2 people to write me recs, I might.
I just got an e-mail about a scholarship opportunity from Financial Aid!!! It has subtle connotations as if its speaking to an admitted student…
@SmokedHam if it is the Norman Topping Scholarship it doesn’t mean anything unfortunately… Its sent to first generation/minority applicants
BUT if you’re talking about another scholarship opportunity then I have no idea hahaha
Good luck to us alllllll!
@mellyjune if you don’t mind me asking, at what point of the application process did you get the Norman topping email last time? It probably means nothing I’m just curious.
@usc2563 I just dug through the archives of my email and found it haha
I had applied the end of November of my senior year and I got the email the middle of December. The application was due on February 13.
So I definitely got the email a lot earlier in the process as a senior than this time around. I have to admit that they did send out the email for us kinda late considering it says the deadline for transfers for this scholarship is the 21st of May. I didn’t apply for it then, but I would have had like 2 months to fill it out then, while as now, the people who just got the email will only have a little over 2 weeks.
Both emails for the Norman Topping Scholarship were sent around 10pm though hahaha
I think the only real indication of admittance b4 actually getting the package is the Ability to Benefit form.
@mellyjune thanks for sharing! it is kinda weird they sent it out now when the deadline is so close.
I’m filling out information for the scholarship a lot of people were just emailed. Anyone else only able to choose Graduate for Type of student?
Got my SGR on May 2. Not exactly sure why they ask that for some and not for the others.
