@bravoyourlife what school do you attend? Which credits will transfer depends on that, you can use this link to search for an articulation history between your school and USC, and if one exists, it will also cover ESL courses and online courses.
@penntousc I go to UMKC. I just checked the website real quick and I don’t know how to thank no more! But I’m just wondering for the ESL classes, I could find that some classes are transferable but the maximum of 4 units. Does that mean I can you the two highest score? Thanks in advance!
Did anybody else get a spring grade request???
@penntousc Yeah, I remember when I applied, they asked if I had attended East Los Angeles College, Los Angeles Trade Tech College, and some other colleges from typically low-income areas. I had been to those two community colleges though, so it made me laugh a little because it really seems like they were targeting a super specific group of people. The director or whatever claimed only 100 people were called in for interviews, but that didn’t make me feel any better about not getting it The Topping Scholar that I know said she got to go to Japan! I’ve never been on a plane before, so that sounded like a fun little perk - that they might pay for me to go to Japan or something. There are apparently some other perks, but if you’re basically getting the max aid, it might not make much of a difference (especially from what that one student worker told me).
@AGoodFloridian Good luck with the application process I was only really a volunteer at LAC+USC Medical Center for a number of years, but it sounded like they wanted somebody that was more involved with the community. I think I offended them when I said “I would definitely like to be more involved, but I don’t have the means to do so. I don’t even have a car”, so I think I went about things the wrong way in my interview.
@bravoyourlife are the ESL classes each 2 units? If so, then yes two should transfer. I’m not entirely sure if you would be able to choose though, they will likely take whichever one(s) they feel meet important requirements. It’s really impossible to know exactly how classes will transfer until you are accepted and receive the STARS report, so keep your fingers crossed and hope for an acceptance! Good luck!
@zettasyntax yeah that’s what I’m thinking, I really don’t think it’d make a difference in my final package and based on everything I’ve heard, I wouldn’t stand a chance applying anyways. I live in a fairly rural town that doesn’t have many (almost none) opportunities for volunteer work and community service, so I definitely wouldn’t satisfy in that aspect lol
@penntousc those classes are each 3 units and yea… that’s kinda sucks that I can’t know till get a report. But imma keep work on it!!! BIG THANKS for you
@bravoyourlife Just by glancing your fall and spring classes i would make an educated guess that all of those classes are transferable because theyre pretty general courses except for english 105b im not sure about that course and ive never heard of it. I recommend you google try to findout if your school has an “articulation agreement” with USC and from there you will be able to find the course to course equivalencies for the classes youve taken and whether they are transferable to USC or not.
when are we supposed to receive a decision??
@Ftewrbewr thats something we’d all like to know! You can expect to recieve a decision by June 1st, it could be today or it could be June 1st but if you get an SGR it can even stretch out til mid June
did anyone here apply to BU? if yes did you get accepted?
@Ftewrbewr yeah i got accepted like a month ago. ALso did anybody get a spring grade request yesterday?
yea i got in @Ftewrbewr
Got in just the other day!!! future trojan.
Can anyone attest to the transition from a community college to USC in terms of academics/workload?
@peace4allpeeps congrats! If you wouldn’t mind, theres a stats thread linked below where accepted students have bene posting their decisions and info and it’d be much appreciated if you could post in there!
As for attesting to the transition, @zettasyntax is probably the best person to ask.
I signed up for myusps since someone mentioned it here, and I’m receiving a package from USC!!! Hoping for good news!!!
@peace4allpeeps I thought it was a rather challenging transition. The reason being, at CC you’re probably used to getting A’s and B’s, but that’s not always going to be the case at USC (at least for most people it won’t). Also, depending on the CC, it’s possible your letters grades never had additional marks (there was no + or - distinction; only a letter grade). Depending on your major, it could be a pretty rocky start. My first semester, my grades weren’t all that great. A, B+, C+, C+. I never thought I’d get any kind of C, but my classes were quite tough. I feel like in CC, there are a lot of slackers, so the students that are doing well and want to transfer really stand out. At USC the slackers are pretty much gone, so it’s harder to stand out. I eventually got into the groove of things though and when I took a (slightly) overloaded 20 unit semester this past fall, my grades were: A, A, A, A-, B+. I was really pissed at that B+, lol Apparently, that professor is known for pretty much never wanting to assign A’s (at least from what I heard from past students; none of them had A’s in ANY of her classes). If you want any GE suggestions for the USC-only GEs, I’d be happy to recommend some
TLDR; it might be a bit of a transition depending on the CC.
@rawrrxboo ahh ! how exciting please keep us updated
@rawrrxboo Well, I know the acceptance letters/packages are tracked. The rejection letter I got was just in a plain envelope, lol. So if it’s actually track-able on the UPS site, it could only be the package
