2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

Has anyone who’s been accepted receive their financial aid? I was accepted April 29th but still haven’t received one.

@Chasexm I will, the professor is a professor at UCLA lol, how fitting.

@itslife123 you go to UCLA?

@Skepta Nopee SMC, and I’ve said this before but my Professor said he goes more theoretical on our class than he would at UCLA. Our math department here sucks lol…

@skepta I think he is saying the professor teaches at both. At least that is what it seemed like he said to me.

@itslife123 the SMC math department sucks so hard. Did you see the article in the Corsair about the math department? I’m sure this is really raising your spirits lmao sorry.

@usc2563 I have read it actually, and many of it is true and false. There are students who don’t try, yes. But their are some teachers out here to just give you hell, just as their are in the other schoos I’m sure. Luckily I have been able to navigate my way successfully for the past year and a half, but looks like this last semester I’m in quite a rough patch.

@itslife123 Good ol’ SMC. I’m one of those people who did the UCLA extension thing, not because I assessed into lower level math, but because I went to a statistics class with one of the “good” professors in the department and it was such a bad experience I dropped one week in.

Which was an experience all its own, because the class was full of students from SMC and GCC who did test into lower level math and would just pester the professor endlessly.

@itslife123 I’ve heard SMC in general is pretty hard so PROPS TO YOU FOR DOING WELL SO FAR !!

@usc2563 I definitely feel you on that. I took two semesters at SMC last year and had a bad experience with their math department. Much better experience at the other CC I’m at now.

Yea if i get under a 60% on my midterm, I’m dropping lol. And I’ll explain to USC, better than the chance of getting a D or sending a C in a SGR.

@itslife123 I had to join in on this SMC math department shaming! It’s horrible!

@kamtea Nope, still waiting for financial aid. Also accepted April 29th. I called and asked about it and they said I am in the queue and they just need to “Package it Up” and they don’t know exactly when that will be but typically 3rd week in May is what the person told me.

@TST974 I got a transcript request several weeks ago and they just wanted my current transcript and did not mention an SGR. I uploaded it even though I had already sent it, and I got my acceptance 2 days later. They said they still need the official copy (even though it showed up on the list of received documents). So it might not be an SGR. I think I’d contact my counselor to be sure and if you have a copy, I’d go ahead and upload it. What could it hurt?

Hey guys, for those that did the deposit waiver, who did you put to confirm that you are eligible for a waiver?

@rawrrxboo Well when I did it, I put the name of a financial advisor from my CC but I don’t even think I put the correct contact information (in fact, I’m almost certain I put the wrong information) and they didn’t reject the waiver. I’m not sure how they handle that. If anything, they would just charge it to your student account at a later date. Maybe they just assume if you applied for financial aid, that you qualify for the waiver. That’s the only thing that makes sense to me =\

Dang SMC sounds horrible lol The math department at Victor Valley College is great! I mean, three years ago I hated math and barely remembered the foil method. Fast forward to the beginning of this semester, I was going to take differential equations for the hell of it lol They actually made me want to change my major to Engineering.

I mean…look at our department chair, and yes he has that expression when he talks about any math. lmao

Now our business department is another story. Its basically run by one guy that prides himself in being a hard grader, his name is Young. He made our librarian cry haha

.

anyone sophomore applicants here who havnt gotten an SGR yet?
