@malpais So they send on the 18th, but most of us will get it on the 21st is. Because usually it doesn’t come the day its postmarked. Nonetheless, still very exciting news!
I hope the 18th thing is the same for Annenberg too
I applied to Viterbi last year, but received my rejection via portal dated May 30th.
Applied again this year with more major-related classes completed. Hope we start seeing some Viterbi decisions by next week.
Does Viterbi pay much attention on how many major related classes we have taken? @cool786
@luckybaby From my understanding, yes. Viterbi’s main criteria that they judge on is academic history, which includes grades and amount of classes you have taken (especially major-related).
I was rejected for CS last year even though I had the minimum requirements done (calc 2, 2 lab based science), 3.91 GPA, and Trojan Family (sis graduated from USC).
@cool786 why do you think you got rejected then?
Thank you for your info! I applied to CS this year as well. Hope we could both get in this year. @cool786
@alienman1234 I think I was rejected because I didn’t have any recommended courses completed.
(Calc 3, diff eq/lin alg, calc based physics with labs)
@luckybaby You’re welcome. Oh nice, just hope we don’t have to wait till end of May!
@cool786 When you said you had 2 lab based science completed I’m guessing it wasn’t the physics then. Because when they say 2 lab based science they usually want physics 1 and 2. I’m sure u will get in this time for sure!
@cool786 then what did u mean by 2 lab based science?
how many courses have you completed now?
@itslife123 yea, I actually did 2 courses of lab based chemistry (no idea why lol).
Although they do say it could be chem,physics,or bio, it makes more sense to do physics since it falls into the recommended courses anyway. Hopefully all of us get in!
One thing that confused me was that on the viterbi transfer page it says 130 transfer students.
Does that mean that for all of the viterbi majors combined, they take only 130 transfer students per year!?
@cool786 130 is how many choose to attend out of 1000+ applicants. They would acccept atleast 230 because obviously not all will choose to attend
@alienman1234 I meant 2 courses of chem.
I’ve completed up to calc 4( diff EQ and Lin alg), 2/3 calc based physics, and most of USC GE.
Also took C++ but I don’t think USC accepts it.
@cool786 That’s still very unusual because chem is acceptable. However, my main reason in my opinion as to why you got rejected is because if you applied with 50-60 units you’re expected to take beyond calc 2. Usually if you’re a sophomore applicant taking up to Calc 2 that’s fine. Lmk what you think.
Also I know seeing some people with a high gpa getting rejected might freak you out but there is always a reason behind everything. This is why Viterbi takes long with their applicants. Everyone has their own circumstances. There are some weird cases thoo…but it’s best not to think about those cases at this point.
USC doesnt accept c++? @cool786
im taking DE rn, done physics 1, 2 and chem 1.
@itslife123 Yes, I think that could be one factor (I had around 65 transferable units last year).
I think another factor was because I was working full time, my fall 2015, spring 2016 semesters I took less than full-time units. I remember talking to a USC counselor, and he had told me taking full-time units your last 2 semesters is very important.
@alienman1234 No, because there are no equivalent courses USC accepts for C++ (at least from my CC)
How’s your GPA?
@cool786 USC accepts C++ from my school. But I don’t want credit for it because I think the class here is a joke. Math and Physics at my school is legit tho.
@itslife123 They might be picky from where they accept C++ from I guess, since it’s not even on the recommended transfer plan courses.
Math is pretty good at my school as well, but for E & M, there’s only 1 teacher and she’s extremely hard. Majority of the students already dropped lol, I need it though since it’s contingent on my admission for UCI.
