2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

Thanks for the info @itslife123 , that’s certainly a relief #:-S

When you’re in anticipation mode, it feels like your mind latches onto the reasons for the negative outcomes rather than the positive :))

@AGoodFloridian Honestly I’m freaking out cuz it can come any time now. But clearly only SGR’s are being sent out at this point because it’s the easiest decisions to send out.

There’s always been this factor itching at the back of my head, I’ve been wondering it could be an issue. It’s about that Writing component.

I took my college’s placement exams and completely “leveled out” of both of the Writing Classes (which is why I took 12 credits instead of 15 in my Fall semester btw). Mid-way through that semester I figure out that most colleges require College Writing classes, so I sign up for Honors Writing 2 (the 2nd of sequence), blow the class away with an A along with a recommendation letter from that professor.

Do you think the fact that I don’t have the first of the sequence will impact my application?

I sent my transcripts close to 3 weeks ago and I checked my application status and it says that they haven’t arrived yet. I called them five minutes ago, and all of a sudden, they are there. Their system is so weird.

@AGoodFloridian I also didn’t take english composition because of my IB english exam score. I basically got credit for a full year of writing at my school. Thankfully all my AP/IB credits show up in my transcript so they will understand (I got 45 credits strictly from IB/AP at my school hahaha). So if ur transcript shows those exam scores u should be good (i think a friend of mine got in this year w/out writing composition because of AP credit).

Hahah @AGoodFloridian I had ! Similar issue I called usc because I knocked out English 1 with Ap’s and I didn’t even report it to usc. They said just taking English 2 will imply that you have English 1 covered. Tbh your case is similar to mine. Also the English class you took covers usc writing 150. You have to take 340 there. Once again, I think you’re good :’)

Oh and the reason why I didn’t report was because I didn’t want extra units for no reason because I have a crap ton of ap credit.

@jonathaanv - UCSD’s International Business program was my second choice, but their Accounting minor at the Rady Management School just didn’t but seem developed enough when I went to visit.

@AGoodFloridian @Sydmonn96 - I did 12 in the Fall and am doing 15 now, and I was admitted. I doubt it’s a deal breaker if you’re getting good grades. It’d probably only be concerning if you were getting all B’s while only taking 3 classes.

I agree with the whole unit thing, I think classes ranging from 3-5 units shouldn’t be judged based upon their units, since at most CC’s 3 is a normal class, 4 is a heavier class, and 5 is a damn heavy class. For example, USC’s WRIT150 is 4 units. They only meet twice a week, 8-9:15, and have a 50 min discussion on a Friday which might as well be considered a study hall to ask questions (lots of times they don’t even go the full 50min). The writing classes that I had taken at my CC were 3 units each, and met twice a week from 8-9:15. The only difference between those two classes, is that USC’s has a 50 minute discussion, but they don’t even cover any new material on discussion days. So basically, USC’s classes aren’t any longer, they just get an additional unit because of the mandatory discussion. I think full time should be considered 12-18 units, or 4 classes of 3 or more units.

Also - my friend got admitted to Annenberg last weekend, she’s a sophomore, no SGR. I can’t really read into if that means anything or not, but that’s just an FYI for any Annenberg applicants still waiting.

18 units a semester is craziness, especially if you’re taking engineering classes.

any leftover Marshall applicants like me that still have no decision? :frowning:

So just got my financial aid and my estimated out of pocket expenses is $18,500.

Decisions, decisions

@jonathaanv how long did you have to wait for your financial aid?

@itslife123
Calc 2, Physics w/ Calc 1, Gen Chem I w/ lab, Honors writing 2, Geology, and an Honors Community service class to spice it up. My 2nd semester 19 credits :))

Worst yet comes from my Fall 2017 classes that I signed up for just in case I get rejected everywhere. 18 credits! 3 different programming languages, DiffEquations, E&M Physics, yaaaaaass hahahah

so funny to see how some don’t know how wealthy they are. when USC financial aid says “no money for you”, they stand there like “nO mOnEY fOr Me???!”

@tc20498 about two weeks. My EFC is only $589 and that’s all student contributions so that could give you an idea of what you might get.

@jonathaanv My EFC is $0 so if I get accepted I hope I’m paying that much or less

@Wafflepiezz right here!! ~X(
