2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

Denied- Viterbi
Applying for my sophomore year
First semester gpa- 3.72
Countless ECs (thought they would work in my favor)
I am going to appeal, how do I go about that?

(Also, for my spring semester, I have a 3.85 so I’m appealing only because I feel like two semesters of consistently good grades looks better than just one)

Hey guys, my portal still appears as “pre-applicant”… idk what usc is thinking… If Ive been rejected, then please just show me a decision letter!!!

Good luck to everyone sending out appeals. Remember though that USC does not just look at grades and GPA, so the reason you got rejected could very well be because of things like essays or the lack of progression. So I would encourage you to not just make it about Spring grades because if they did not even request an SGR, then spring grades to them are absolutely irrelevant. Yes spring grades are new information but it will not be enough. Appeals are normally accepted when a person points out a mistake that was made by the admissions counselors, etc that caused a rejection. So @jimmyjammy6, it seems like you have a legitimate reason to appeal. This is in no way trying to discourage people to appeal, if anything I say go for it. Do not give up, but also do not take it as a simple little letter.

Accepted to Marshall for spring. Letter dated May 25th. Received a SGR on May 5th and sent grades in a week later.

ayo, my portal remains the same too, no decision yet

Still here guys! Received an SGR early May… About to send my spring grades… My letters of recommendation, EC, & GPA are good for a state school applicant! Feeling positive.

I’m very saddened to wake up and see all these rejections :frowning: If you guys want to appeal, it’s not like it costs you anything and you never know. Always better to say that you tried everything in your power to get into 'SC.

I got a usps notification, but it says the status is unavailable. Maybe becuase its on a Sunday. I hope its USC!!

@ashurikko I’m deeply saddened to hear of your result, I know how much you were anticipating it :frowning:

I checked my decision today, and saw that my portal was oddly empty, just with “Admission Status” showing.

Alas, I was also rejected. Honestly, after the fifth rejection, I started making the motions for “plan B”, I already signed up for an ungodly amount of kick-ass extremely hard classes next semester. Hopefully with straight A’s in over 40 credits in the hardest classes that my college has, I only pray that I can be considered worthy of any college that doesn’t throw out applications when someone’s EFC is 0. (USC isn’t one of them, which is why I’m still happy I applied!)

Boy, what a journey. 9 colleges, 7 rejections and 2 waitlists. 1 rejection was because of a missing document, 3 of them were because of financial aid (need aware colleges), three of them were “legit” competitive rejections (Rice, Swarthmore, USC).

I’ll start pushing the waitlists, to see if that gets anywhere. There’s one more college pending for me, and it’s one that… I have history with ^^". I’ll be visiting their campus in the weeks to come to tell them my story.

It’s easy to get disillusioned with the process, I thought that applying to almost 10 colleges would somehow mathematically increase the chances of getting into at least ONE. The rejection-to-waitlist ratio just stayed the same.

At the end of the day, I’m not entitled to any college’s acceptance, nor am I owed one. It’s tough to get rejected so many times in such a small space, especially when it seems like everything so easily falls in place for some people in this country- as if they’re paths have already been pre-determined for them. I’ve walked the unpaved road and doing so has made me beyond resilient. It’s a process that favors students with more credits than fewer. (The colleges that like sophomores are the exception, not the rule).

If no good news comes out of this last college, I’ll be applying to colleges for Spring. No good news there, for the Fall. Too far in to quit, and don’t even come at me with sunken cost fallacy.

It was nice traveling with you guys! In one way or another, we’re all on to greater things <3

SCA applicant. Haven’t heard anything yet.

@chap97 same here , what major?

SCA applicant, just received my rejection.

@penntousc @MonkeyDLuffy20 I’m going to save my thug tears until I hear back from them this week. Initially I told myself if I don’t get in, it’s fine, I’ll just apply again next year, but seeing that letter in the portal on a Sunday morning was brutal. I’ve been lurking this since page one and seeing everyone’s rejections come in stings. I was hoping everyone here got in.

Wow rejected lol oh well ucla here I come :frowning:

@AGoodFloridian Wow, it sounds like you’ve really had a rough transfer cycle :frowning: I experienced something similar my first go-around. I applied to UCLA, USC, UCB, and CSULB in 2014. They all rejected me. I thought CSULB would be a “safety”, but apparently not. I tried again in the spring semester for CSULB since I was stuck at CC, but they still didn’t want me. When I tried to transfer for fall 2015, all of the colleges that had rejected me the year before had suddenly accepted me. I’m not really sure why there was a sudden reversal, but for USC at least, I like to think that they liked my perseverance in trying again. USC likes to drag things out with their transfer admissions though and that’s definitely something I’m not a fan of. Regardless, if anybody is going to try for appeals, I wish you all luck. If you’re going to try for USC the next year, go for it. Or, if you have other plans, I’m sure you all will kick “male mule butt” in wherever your path takes you.

@usc2563 both were Annenberg. First choice communications. Second choice public relations. It’s literally the only thing I was interested in. I don’t even want to go if I don’t get into Annenberg to major in something I have no interest in. When I applied I thought it would look better I was so dedicated to this one school but in hindsight I wonder if I should have chosen a different one. I really hope this was a mistake as I can’t imagine them sending out a SGR to only reject two weeks later without even reviewing them. I take finals this week so I planned on sending them next week.

@jimmyjammy6 If you do get in undeclared, I’ve heard that the forum dramatizes how hard it is to transfer within schools. Once you’re in, it becomes easier to try to transfer within the schools. So don’t lose hope! Hopefully it really was just a clerical error.

@zettasyntax Thank you for your story  That’s what I’ve began believe, you know? It’s always better the next time around. It’s just that way things happen, so getting denied inevitably makes you discouraged, especially since you’ve made such a great progress in that time in college.
