2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@jonathaanv Bless

@BusinessBrah Is transfer merit scholarship for people who are already accepted or applicants? (I have no idea how these things work oops)

@selcrysti630 Is it a package or a letter?

Do spring transfers usually land a spot in housing?

hey guys can anyone tell me if we were accepted, do we have to send in our high school transcripts again? thanks

@Shuisazn it’s a letter, I opened it after I posted my other comment and it is definitely a rejection letter.

@BusinessBrah did you apply for the USC NTSAF? I heard they can offer full tuition to the winners, the deadline to apply as a transfer passed though (it was on May 21st).

@selcrysti630 I applied for NTSAF! I did not know about full tuition. I feel about my application 2 great letters of recommendation. One from a PHD alumni from USC & one from the deputy Mayor of Los Angeles.

NTSAF isn’t full tuition? And don’t they reduce the amount of gift aid you get if you get it?
I think @zettasyntax said something to that effect once. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

@BusinessBrah Omg im so mad I have a 3.98 and I literally got no aid. What is this school

@Transfer510 lol there’s people with 4.00s who didn’t even get offered admission.

@Transfer510 are you a junior transfer? Just wondering because they don’t offer scholarships to sophomore transfers

@Skepta That really sucks but this really sucks too

@penntousc Im a junior transfer. Do you know if they reevaluate each year and hang out more?

@Transfer510 I’m not sure, but the lack of aid probably has more to do with your financial standing and less to do with your grades. Even with the merit I think it’s only like 13k or something like that, wouldn’t wipe the majority of the costs

I debated whether or not to appeal but ultimately decided to give it a shot. Does anyone know what the timeline is for the appeals process? How long does it take generally to hear back?

The people applying for transfer next year are going to have to really work for the information that we’ve provided on here… lol this might just be CC’s longest thread ever, I seriously can’t believe we’re approaching thread # 600

@penntousc Well yeah cause they consider more things in your EFC. It wouldn’t wipe out the majority of costs but it would definitely be a huge difference.

@Transfer510 yeah I won’t disagree with that, any help is beneficial considering USC’s price tag lol

@penntousc crazy to think that last years thread ENDED at around 400. Lol maybe they just didn’t have as many questions.

@Jesus0512 @usc2563 NTSAF does state that they can cover up to full tuition for the “neediest” of students. However, one of the student workers at their office when I went in for my interview stated that the usual award is around 5K and she did indeed say that if we were awarded that amount, USC would accordingly adjust our FA package in other ways - such as reducing university grant funds, etc.

I like this little quote from the Dornsife page regarding scholarships. It’s basically reiterating what that student worker was trying to say:

“Receipt of award monies may alter the allocation of funds within your financial aid package. For example, a student’s previously-awarded grant amount may decrease in some situations. Scholarships awarded may only be used to replace University tuition costs and may not be used to cover housing, books, fees, or meal plans.”

@selcrysti630 I’m sorry to hear about the rejection :frowning: I think CSULB is an awesome school! They rejected me twice before they ultimately accepted me. However, that year I had other options, such as USC, so I was a little mad that they took so long to accept me :stuck_out_tongue: I’m considering going there to get my masters because I did like how their linguistics program sounded and I figured I could use the experience before trying to apply for the PhD program at USC

just declined my housing offer so that’s one more spot opening up for someone else!

@Skepta lol right? This thread is going to be popping again come mid-late june and july, wouldn’t be surprised if it hits a 800-900 thread count
