What are the most important qualifications to be able to transfer to USC? Hoping to apply in a year or two.
Is it smarter to try and transfer after your freshman or sophomore year from an OOS college?
@TheBoy6 full time schedule (12-18 units), GPA, meeting the math and writing requirements, GE requirements, essays, recommendations, ECs – in that order. What’s your intended major?
@TheBoy6 finishing your math and english and as many GEs as possible. If you’re applying to a school that requires a creative supplement having an impressive portfolio. Staying full-time. Trying to have only 1 W if that.
After the big rejection wave I’m starting to think that essays might have more bearing than I originally thought they did… A lot of people who had good stats seemed to get rejected without even an SGR and I can’t figure out why if not that.
@TheBoy6 you can get in after your first year if you complete the math and writing requirements and enough GEs (4-6)… depends on your major though
@penntousc Business major. What do you think my GPA and other activities would have to be? And where can I find the path and writing requirements and all I need to transfer.
@usc2563 Thanks. How many W’s did you have while applying? And is it common for people to have more than one W. What do you mean staying full time?
Is anyone who got admitted still waiting for financial aid ? It’s been almost a week and a half since I mailed them the documents that they requested. I’m starting to think I might not get any FA
@usc2563 I agree with you but also remember that the stats people put down is still not enough for us to judge. For example some 4.0 students might have a had a year of part time, or maybe someone got straight As and just one C on a major prep requirement. I believe little things like that is what ultimately gives these amazing stats a rejection although some applicants like @Skepta is really a big shocker to me… with that being said I did see a Marshall applicant who had under a 3.7 and passed calc with a B and English with an A and was admitted even after a low spring gpa.
@Transfer510 Same man 4.0 no aid of any kind. Seems like a lot of people though so we’re not alone. Not sure what they’re smoking in that financial aid office. Especially since someone on here with a 3.78 said they got the 13k transfer merit scholarship. It makes so sense. Sure they’re could have been other things but the word ‘merit’ implies it’s grades so I’m confused. That 13k was the only chance I had at attending USC. Oh well.
@TheBoy6 I had three Ws. From what I’ve been told by admissions USC frowns upon more than one. Staying full-time just means taking the amount of credits your school deems to have you be a full-time student, instead of being a part time student.
@TheBoy6 these two links are really all you should need to plan your courses accordingly:
USC Transfer Planning Worksheet: http://admission.usc.edu/docs/TransferPlanningWorksheet.pdf
This lists the math and writing requirements, as well as the GE requirements. USC’s business school does not require any language courses. For the math requirement, you will need to complete either Calculus 1, or Business Calculus. For the writing requirement, two semesters of writing/composition/english (should be pretty standard for whatever school you’re at, every school has those lower level writing courses). I would recommend completing AT LEAST 4-6 general education requirements. Keep in mind, classes like international relations, western civilization, gender studies, etc. will satisfy 2 requirements at once, so schedule those if at all possible. Your calculus course will satisfy the quantitative reasoning requirement, so that is a freebie. If you attempt to complete the life sciences or physical sciences requirements, keep in mind that they MUST have labs in order to satisfy USC GE requirements.
USC Articulation History/Agreement: https://camel2.usc.edu/articagrmt/artic_hist_range.aspx
If courses have previously transferred from your school to USC, there will be an articulation history. If there aren’t any, take courses that seem like they’d fit the GE requirements and transfer well. Note: Intro to Psychology does not transfer to USC (that goes for just about all schools), so do not consider that course for the life sciences GE.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
DO NOT take accounting or economics IF you will be attempting to enter as a sophomore. If you intend to enter as a junior (after two years of college) then it is a good idea to complete them. While it does not hurt to take them, it does not help either. USC would prefer that you take those courses while in residence if you are going to be entering as a sophomore, and if that is your goal, you should focus on meeting the basic requirements and as many general education requirements as possible. Do not overwhelm yourself with courses though, you should try to keep your GPA above a 3.7, but always strive for a 4.0.
I was in your shoes a year ago and it couldn’t have worked out any better, best of luck to you!
P.S. - Communicate with the counselor that is assigned to your region. Even if you have to ask her questions that I may have already answered on here and you know the answers to, still do it. I was accepted with only 16 units completed and no spring grade request, and I truly think it was because of how much I communicated with my counselor. The link for you to find your counselor: http://admission.usc.edu/findyourcounselor.html
@mish97 You can reference this article “5 TOP University in the USA – What are you majoring in?” https://gpahub.net/5-top-university-in-the-usa-what-are-you-majoring-in.html
I feel like we’re the only ones standing after that large wave of rejections. I don’t know what to think at this point since there are only 2 days left.
Someone please let me know if your portal updates tonight lol it’s so hard to be patient with this process!
@penntousc @TheBoy6 yeah that one post basically sums up everything you need to know as a Marshall applicant
I got a SGR about 3 weeks ago and submitted my grades 2 weeks ago, should I still technically get a final decision by June 1st, or is that date thrown out the window because of the SGR?
@katienewsom24 Thrown out the window.
@katienewsom24 are you on the semester system or quarter system?
