wait do counselors have any effect on our admission decision (specifically for engineering)?
@greenpotatoe they’re the ones making the decisions, the individual schools don’t review apps for undergraduates, only graduates
@penntousc how do u know? Viterbi won’t even look at transfer applications? I find it weird since I emailed Viterbi and they confirmed that they received my spring grades so they must have some influence…
@squirtlesquirtle Yes you’re gonna be taking 5 GE’s over their. Try finishing up 1 or 2 in the summer.
@greenpotatoe I’m not sure where it was that we discussed it on here but someone either spoke to a counselor, or knows someone in admissions and we confirmed that counselors are responsible for reviewing all undergraduate applications. I mean it doesn’t take a genius to review them, even for Viterbi. Every counselor knows ideally how many requirements and GEs should be met for each major, as well as the ideal GPA for each major, because that’s their job. The way I see it, if the counselor says reject, the individual school would like say the same, and vice versa.
I was admitted a week ago today (dated May 26th) and submitted additional documents last Tuesday. Still no financial aid package…hoping they update it today or tomorrow because I reeeeeaaally need to make a decision.
@penntousc wow I didn’t know that hahaha. Thank you btw.
Admissions counselor is going to be out of the office for 2 weeks but I haven’t sent in my appeal yet uGH
So my spring grades are posted online but I talked to the admissions office today saying that my spring grades won’t be on my transcript until June 16th.
For those who got an SGR and submitted your grades already, did you send an un unofficial transcript or your official transcripts?
Alright guys just bombed my calc 2 final. I am probably going to get a C in the class, do you think that USC will look down up on this I have As in my other three classes. For the record, I am a spring admit to Marshall
@Warrior106 was calc 2 necessary for you to take, or did you just take it to take it? Some people (in CA schools mostly) need calc 1 and 2 to satisfy the calc requirement, while others only need calc 1 or business calc. If you only needed calc 1, you should be fine. If you needed calc 2, it’ll be up in the air, but I wouldn’t be too worried.
@penntousc calc 2 isn’t required for my schools articulation with USC. I’ll take your word on it hopefully it’ll be fine
@elokinikole14 I sent both just in case. I uploaded a pdf of my unofficial transcript to the portal, and had my school send the official one directly to USC.
if I get a 4.0 gpa this semester will that increase my chances for getting into USC through an appeal?
@penntousc @itslife123
Ah I see, thanks for clearing it up! I’ll be knocking out my GE’s over the summer/fall before Spring 2018 then.
@Warrior106
From what I know, only Business Calculus (USC-Math 118) OR Calculus 1 (USC-Math 125) is required for Marshall. It would only make sense that if you finish Calculus 2, that wouldn’t hurt you considering that is considered above & beyond and you have already been accepted. However, if the grade was a failing grade then that might count against you.
@greenpotatoe I also called USC admissions earlier this year around February and talked with their office. They told me as well that our assigned counselors are the ones looking over our applications to my surprise.
@Warrior106 You should be fine since you already got in; I got all A’s except calc (I got a C) and was ultimately rejected but I think now that you’ve gotten in as long as you fulfill the transfer reqs they won’t rescind you
Alright so I don’t know if this is a reach, but I was just on the phone with a financial aid counselor because I was missing a document, and I had asked her if I would not be able to receive my application decision without this form and that I would upload it asap. She told me they couldn’t finish “packaging” my decision without it…?? Does this mean I was accepted? Dornslife incoming sophomore applicant btw
@austlara could go any which way but I’d lean towards an acceptance. They wouldn’t be putting together a package if you were rejected, or if your decision has yet to be determined, so keep your fingers crossed!
Ahhh thank you! This entire application process has been so stressful, even the smallest hints are making me more hopeful
