@Vesper7 I visited USC today after all! I get the vibe that I was rejected… but ah… I’ll keep my fingers crossed. The man I spoke to at the office of admission told me that USC sent out my admission decision letter today, and that I should receive it by today or tomorrow in the mail. Hopefully yours is also being sent out soon…
I really tried to press him about my decision but he said he couldn’t tell me. My dad thinks it’s because he doesn’t want to be the bad guy and tell me I’m not in… but I’ve also heard people at the admissions office simply can’t tell students until they’ve received their letter. I don’t know how to interpret it all, but a positive result after so long would be ideal.
@mersyno1 oh did you really? do you remember who you talked to and was he in the main admissions office or the one from your specific school? I’m pretty positive we got in, I just get this good vibe because at the information session last Septmber, our counselor said he loves ELAC students and sends a good amount of acceptances. yeah, I think it’s their official policy that they must keep it confidential. isn’t it ironic that we both graduate tomorrow as well? talk about a pleasant surprise and storybook ending.
@squirtlesquirtle It just seems strange since different departments get admission decisions at different times.
Soooo, took my last two finals this morning and grades are coming in. I applied with a 4.0 and was really hoping to get another 4.0 this semester since I got a SGR, but alas, I got a B+ in my English class. It shows on my transcript as B. Really disappointed. I am getting A’s in my 5 other classes, but knowing how competitive it is, I just feel like a drop looks bad no matter what. Going to email my unofficial along with a quick mention of the actual percentage I ended the class with. Hopefully that helps to expedite this process as it’s been so exhilarating but also draining. I just want it to be over as quickly as possible. lol fingers crossed for everyone still waiting.
@mersyno1 not to hype u up or anything but if u live in the South Bay Area and the office of admission told they sent out ur decision today and to expect to recieve it today or tmrrw you’re almost guaranteed to be accepted. They send acceptances with priority mail so it’s usually delivered the next day if u live within la. Rejection letters are sent out with regular mail which takes much longer to reach you. Wish u the best
@Warrior106 I thought you called and they said passing is all you need.
@Vesper7 Rakin Hall is your counselor? When I got my rejection the first time I applied, my counselor wouldn’t even tell me why I was rejected, so it must be policy for them not to discuss certain things.
Is it weird if your counselor emails you randomly to make sure to send in official transcript? And he already has my unofficial spring grades
How long do we have to wait for a decision after we send in our spring grades to USC?
@Vesper7 I spoke to the general admissions office for USC, not specifically Dornsife, which is the one I’d be getting into, I assume, given I’m a Biology major. I don’t remember the man’s name, only that his tag said he was from Texas (which is totally not helpful) – he had glasses and frizzy hair, but I suppose that’s beside the point.
@uscdream19 I don’t live in the south bay area! I do live in Los Angeles, though, and that would be amazing! The mail passed by today but nothing arrived, but I suppose if something arrives tomorrow then… ah I feel all giddy again, but …who knows… thank you ! I hope all goes well
@zettasyntax hey! yes, he is. ahhh, I’m pretty sure it is and they try their best to keep it confidential from students. I just want my decision soon. Although I take it as a good sign that I haven’t been rejected yet.
@mersyno1 haha well I meant South Bay as in around the Los Angeles area as South Bay is part of LA county. My decision was postmarked on the 18th and I received it the next day on the 19th. I live in the South Bay. I live 20 mins away from USC and didn’t get my decision till the next day. So be prepared for tomorrow! Best of luck
@Vesper7 Tomorrow marks the 2 year anniversary of my acceptance so I hope hearing after the deadline is good news for you as well
there were several documents that were requested for financial aid and I uploaded them last night but should I worry that they’re still under “required documents” in my portal? I’m pretty sure I sent them lol
Hi. I was a transfer student last year and lived in the Lorenzo this year. For those that are admitted and don’t have student housing or don’t want to live in the dorm, I have a lease that I need someone to take over from August 2017- July 2018. Towards the end, there won’t be any dorms available for transfer students. Lorenzo is a great place for students at USC because it is within walking distance and there is a shuttle every 15 min. Please message me for inquiry. The rent is $969 and comes with free parking, completely furnished, and utility is included.
I had a question about financial aid. If I qualified for cal grant at another California school doesn’t that mean I should qualify for it at USC? Has anyone submitted an appeal and succeeded in getting more financial aid (like 10K more)?
@amartinez571 As far as appealing financial aid, yes, you can try though you need a reason. From my research most people get between 0-3000 from appealing though it depends on what’s the reason. Personally I appealed with what I felt was a good reason and they only gave me 1400. So basically nothing. Good luck though
@BusinessBrah Thanks! At this point I might not even attend USC since they are expecting me to pay about 25k per year. It’s just sad when you get accepted but then find out you can’t afford it.
Stay positive during this super uncertain time, guys! Good luck; I’m rooting for you all!
@amartinez571 You should weight your options about what other schools you can go to and get the same value.
For instance, if you go heavy and take like 18 units a semester, you can graduate in 1.5 years or so (maybe) and save money that way. PLus you need to make sure you are getting a degree from another school that is quality. It is better to take out 40-50k in student loans and get a great degree from USC than pay nothing and go to some crap CSU or something. that is my opinion.
That also depends on what you want to do etc. but the 50k would be an investment in yourself and sometimes the experience and network is priceless. 50k in the big scheme of things really isnt that much money.
