2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

Thanks a lot! Can I PM you?

@Aishxr yeah sure!

Accepted may 29. Still no financial aid updates. Should I call?

Sooo apparently my admission counselor (Kenley Turville) is no longer working for the university. Should I call them and ask what this means for my application now, and if they’re switching me to another counselor? I don’t want to bug them, but I’m worried that my application is going to get pushed aside and forgotten.

@katienewsom24 Well the admissions counselors will be out till June 16th. It was posted on the uscadmission instagram.

@bxnditx I didn’t see that, thank you!

Denied - Computer Science & Undecided(second choice)
stats:
hs gpa: 2.8(definitely the reason I was denied)
college: 3.80 (3.72 fall, 3.85 spring)
wrote for my school magazine, worked in the study abroad office, recorded basketball games, etc. etc. (there are a lot, thought that would help my case)

Update: I just wrote my appeal letter, including an unofficial transcript from my school (as advised by someone from admissions I was on the phone with earlier today). I mentioned that I met the necessary courses, and had a gpa above that of the average admitted student. I also wrote about my various extracurriculars, and how I balanced them with my coursework/how I would remain involved in whatever community I am a part of.
I’m not expecting to have my decision changed, but I can be at peace knowing that I gave it my best effort. Best of luck to everyone in their appeal process and pursuit of higher education moving forward. This thread has been very helpful in this long and ultimately unrewarding process, but I have learned a lot that can help me in other admission processes. It’s not the end of the world if you are denied, and there are many other colleges out there. I’m sure you’ll find one that suits you. I know how awful it feels to see the denial letter, but life goes on. You’ll be ok.

@Aishxr Just as much as possible tbh; I took History and Sociology and they both knocked out a bunch of GE’s! I’m also a biology major~

@dnymrel did u get a SGR?

Hi guy! I’m new to here. So I received spring grade request at the end of may and I dropped off my unofficial transcript on June 1st. However, I haven’t gotten any update on portal yet. It still shows under required documents. I wanted to email my counselor, but they’re out of office until Jun 16.

Not sure what I should do at this time…

I have to pay my enrollment deposit for another school on Friday, but USC is definitely my top choice. I still haven’t gotten a decision back yet, but if I call admissions and ask for the status of my application, what would they tell me? Would it be worth it to call?

@bettycrocker03 ya I’m waitlisted at another school and am supposed to hear back from them this month but USC is my top still. Unsure of what to do if I get off the waitlist at the other school. Also are officers reviewing applications in the office or do the representatives make up the entire admissions that are going on the conference leave?

@suitelifecollege the counselors are the ones that review the apps so if I had to guess, no decisions will be released this week unless ones that had already been decided at the end of last week

@Ka1mona I’m pretty sure you need to give them your official transcript. Either way, I wouldn’t worry about it yet. Some people don’t receive decisions until mid July, so there’s a ways to go before you should begin to worry.

@suitelifecollege I’m not sure, but I think @penntousc is right. If I don’t get a decision back from USC by Friday I guess I’ll just have to pay the deposit at the other school /:

Thank you @penntousc

! I dropped off a spring grade card with professor’s signature which was giving as an option in my sgr letter. I just don’t know if they actually received it yet since there is no update on the portal. But I guess I will just wait.

Hey! Does anyone know when Santa Monica College release spring grades? It’s been a week since my finals are over, and I can see only one grade when I check my unofficial grades.

Also, I just saw that so many people got accepted. First, congratulations! :slight_smile: second, could you please write your majors and whether you got SGR or not? Especially, is there anyone whose major is CS and got SGR and got accepted?

Thanks!!

@bbzby Grades are due from faculty on the 20th. In my experience, most of them actually wait that long to upload the grades.

Also, I got accepted three weeks ago Sociology, no SGR. Also from SMC.

For those of you guys who were admitted for Spring, how are you going to find housing? (Ik I’ve prob asked this a lot/been bombarding the thread about housing but I’m super worried) I see a bunch of spring admits (prob freshmen?) that are going to live at Gateway in the fall, but since I live like an hour away I don’t need to so idk what to do OTL

Thank you so much for the advice!
