2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@Vesper7 Was your admission counselor Rakin Hall? I was rejected when he was my counselor. I applied with slightly worse stats the next year and got in. They did assign me a new counselor for that year. I honestly think Mr. Hall might be very hard to please. I say try for the appeal. Granted, my appeal wasn’t succesful, but maybe a fresh set of eyes might help  I wound up with a B in my transferable math class (I think it was pre-calc? stats? I remember taking both, so it was one of those), so I can’t even say I had an A in the transferable math. If you feel like appealing, go for it - it’s free. Give those counselors more work :stuck_out_tongue: I wish you luck with whatever route your choose. If you any specific questions about how my appeal went (so you can avoid the mistakes), let me know.

@squirtlesquirtle I adored winter orientation - even if it was somewhat of orientation “lite” :stuck_out_tongue: I think the summer orientations have cheerleaders and stuff and have their lunch thing outside whereas we ate in the TCC Ballroom, but it was quite nice to me and I really enjoyed the food, haha. There wasn’t anything extremely interactive - at least not to the degree of what would happen during freshmen orientation.

When the morning started, we met with an orientation advisor and just introduced ourselves to other transfers. Went to a room in VKC - a building with a bunch of flags. There happened to be a lot of business students from Texas in my group and they were all telling jokes about how UCLA sucks - even the advisor - but nobody laughed at mine :expressionless: Other than that, I suppose the lunch where you sit at a table with your advisor and other people from your major was the most “interactive” thing I remember and it’s really nice to just chat with your advisor. I was assigned to temporary housing, so I declined that offer and just chose to commute. I’m hoping that things are better for the new batch of spring transfers like you  Choosing classes was an absolute breeze and was a main strength of the whole private vs. public university system for me. I got to experience UCLA’s orientation - I was even “Bruintized”, but the registration experience is what killed it for me. I was able to enroll in every single class that I wanted to enroll in, but that was not the case with UCLA. They do free up several spots for transfer peeps and nobody else can register that day aside from transfers, so you guys have first dibs on those spots. I really enjoyed orientation and am probably hyping it up too much, heh :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi all!

I was accepted for Fall 17 as a Physics/Computer Science major! I’m transferring from San Jose State University. Sophmore.

One question: How long after receiving acceptance does it take to hear from the financial aid office? Has USC offered university grants to any accepted students?

Thanks in advance!

@Mariano did u receive a SGR? Also when did u receive ur acceptance?

@zettasyntax yes, Rakin was. I’ve heard that from many other people as well. I think he may be the harshest admission counselor. I’m praying that my decision gets changed because this is my first and only time applying since I’ll be entering as a Junior. I’m actually going to take a different route and address my letter to Kirk Brennan, as he is open to addressing appeals for transfers as the Undergraduate director. I’ll PM you for some advice in regards to my appeal letter. It’s actually finished and I’m debating whether to turn it in tomorrow with my supporting documentation or wait until Monday. Thank you so much for the help.

I knew financial aid would break my heart. Going to community college for another year isnt an option (ive lost priority registration cause i have so many units :frowning: ) so idk what I’m gonna do for the fall :-<

@Vesper7 Do you know how Winter orientation will be different if I were to change my major?

@NorCalBred honestly bro, I’m not sure. I’m trying to write a successful appeal letter to just get in lol. I still think it’ll be the same, just meeting with different academic counselors.

How long does it take to hear back for SGR after sending spring grades?

@kamyarzk some people hear back at different times… on this thread some have gotten a decision 3 days later and up to a month

Yes, I received a SGR and submitted my Spring grades on June 7. I was admitted June 9.

Are you not being granted Financial Aid?

I submitted my spring grades about a month ago and haven’t heard back, so I guess it’s just a case by case thing. It also depends on how swamped your counselor is.

@pantafootball2 @zettasyntax Thanks for the advice! Turns out I got an A in Honors Calc 1 anyways. Hopefully that’s enough for Marshall to accept me. This SGR realm sucks.

@Mariano who was your counselor and how did you submit your grades? I submitted mine on 6/12 but admissions was out at some conference until today. I emailed grades to my counselor directly (we spoke finals week). Haven’t gotten confirmation she recieved but I assume she has a lot of emails to get through. I was going to call on Tuesday but after seeing how fast your acceptance came, I hope I get a decision just as quickly!

@katienewsom24 a month?!!! Omg. Who is your counselor? Did you email unofficial grades?

@jimmyjammy ugh I know it’s the worst. My counselor is Kenley Turville. I submitted my unofficial grades through my portal, and had my school send my official grades.

Anyone with Whitney rollerson

How long do we have to wait for a decision after sending in our spring grades? And how do we know who our counselor is?

@Mariano what are ur stats?

Also, does anyone what it means when in my submitted documents my transcripts go from appearing 6 times to 3 times? The message in my application status check changed to what it was before too.
