Do you think it is worth a shot to try and appeal my rejection?

My school sent out my midyear report with a mistake on them in the beginning of February, saying that I had failed AP Calc BC for the second marking period. I talked to my guidance counselor and he sent out my corrected midyear report, which said I got a B+. I actually called the admissions office to make sure they got my corrected midyear report, and I talked to a very rude lady who simply said “well, if your school sent it we have it,” when I asked her to double check that they actually DID have it.

A few weeks later, a week into March, I emailed the admissions office because I felt uneasy about the situation. The person who responded to me told me that they did not have the correct midyear report. Immediately after, my guidance counselor emailed a PDF file to the woman who responded to my email. This happened less than three weeks before decisions were published.

I’m worried that they already made the decision to reject me based on my first midyear report, and when the new one came in, they didn’t bother to completely reevaluate me, or something along those lines.

Lehigh is my dream school and I want nothing more than to attend there. My dad told me that if I got in he would make sure I got there and to not worry about a thing. I know the chances of them appealing me is very slim…I actually don’t even know if Lehigh does appeals…but if it’s one last shot at what I’ve been dreaming about for the past six months then I’ll do it.

I feel sorry for this. I don’t think Lehigh would review the midyear report. My D’s school sent it in Feb by wrong click, but nerve show up in the portal.

InLoveWithLehigh: no mistake but bad grade ( B-). It is not nessessary to send your midyear report to Lehigh as long as they don’t ask for it. My D’s school should send her midyear report to another college instead of Lehigh. This is what I said " wrong click" .

For anyone interested in an inside look at Lehigh’s admissions process this year check out the Philadelphia Inquirer’s front page story today. Philly dot com

Wow! I wish I had read that article last year. Thanks for sharing, Prozack2. Of course, it just made me long for my child to attend Lehigh. He still is considering 3 schools. Maybe it will be easier to decide after we get the last two FA letters and he attends Diversity weekend.

I think I’m going crazy. A quote from the article…

“That applicant wasn’t the only one to see his preliminary offer turn to a rejection. Another fell off after getting an F on a midyear calculus exam.”

My midyear report said I failed calculus. I didn’t. It was a mistake…

I will always wonder if that mistake my guidance counselor made caused me to get rejected by my dream school.

That article was so interesting! Based on the numbers lehigh’s rd rate dropped to like 28%. Im so glad I interviewed and visited. I think especially the visit helped since Im from California.

I don’t understand how they expect people who live so far away to visit; would it be okay for those that live far away to just attend regional college fairs and conferences, and email frequently?

Inlovewithlehigh, you have to get your high school guidance counselor involved immediately to straighten this out for you. He/she is (in theory) your best, strongest advocate. What’s the downside? What happened to you should never have occurred! Take action.

I agree - you need to have your guidance counselor call Lehigh and straighten this out. It was their error and they need to fix it. This is why whenever having anything sent by the school you should request to see what is being sent PRIOR to them sending it. Or have them show it to you before they place it in the sealed envelope or it is faxed. Good luck to you, I hope it works out.

At my school there is someone specifically in charge of sending out midyear reports. They do it automatically…

My grade was actually put in as incomplete. I was sick during midterms, so I had to make them up. It was put in as an incomplete for the time being, but the computers changed it to failing…and it just got sent out despite my guidance counselor telling them not to.

I emailed Lehigh. When I go back to school on Tuesday, I’m talking to a very close teacher and my guidance counselor. I’m not giving up. Lehigh is my dream school… If they don’t respond to me via email I plan on driving to the school to personally talk to an admissions counselor. Thank you for your support! It means a lot more than you think it does.

If anyone is interested, I will definitely post what happens on this thread!
