2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

My friend still has not heard back for COMM, does anyone know if they have for that major?

@collegetransfer1029 the average Freshman acceptance for the School of Cinematic Arts overall is 3-4% according to different online sources. I imagine transfer rates are way lower

@Vesper7 same situation as you due to work schedule . 3 A’s and a W. Its not in a class that fulfills any pre req or GE or anything but still USC not only doesn’t like W’s but don’t like less than full time . Withdrawing meant 9 units instead of 12 which makes them wonder if the student is up to the rigor at USC. My daughter sending an email to counselor and uploading unofficial transcript to portal. Sending official when it’s available . Good luck to you.

@zettasyntax when will I know it my spring grades have been processed?

if I got an email from usc saying “Please see the attached important letter to incoming USC students and their families from Provost Michael W. Quick” but my portal hasn’t updated and there is nothing in informed delivery does that mean anything?

@sagerheinschild @mavsp1 Thanks a lot for the help!

@llg234 I am admitted to USC and I got that email also. They must of just accepted you, because if you were not accepted they would not have sent that email. I am guessing your portal just hasent updated.(from my opinion) CONGRATS!! Welcome to the trojan fam

Same thing happened to me! My portal says nothing but I received the same email yesterday around 5pm.

@Elena1355 Is there still a message asking you to send in spring grades? Once that goes away, it should revert back to the original application status message (or perhaps a slightly modified one) saying that they have everything they need.

probably lol

I need help in making a decision! Which school is better for neuroscience, USC or UCLA?
So this is what I think, UCLA has a better ranking at the moment, but USC seems like they are putting in a lot of money to improve their neuroscience department by recruiting good professors. And like maybe it’s a matter of time until they start to take professors from UCLA. I like USC better as a school, but the ranking part throws me off a little. But if the department is growing, it kind of seems worth it. But USC is 10k more per year and that’s another thing thats making the decision difficult. But then again maybe that 10k is worth it because the class size will be smaller at USC. So I don’t know what to dooooo

@zettasyntax yeah I still have the message but I sent the grades a while ago! What should I do?

Anyone a cognitive science major in Dornsife??

@Elena1355 Either email your admissions counselor or call the admissions office. Just say that you sent in your spring grades and you want confirmation that they’ve been received. They should be able to tell you that

@ssckmt As far as undergrad is concerned, you’d likely receive the same quality of education at both schools. Rankings matter a bit more for graduate programs. For instance, UCLA is ranked near the top for my major (linguistics), so I’d seriously consider UCLA if I wanted to go for a PhD one day. USC does have a number of faculty that graduated from UCLA. Two of my linguistics professors did their PhDs at UCLA. Heck, I even think USC snatched a popular astronomy professor from UCLA :stuck_out_tongue: The cozier class size could be an advantage. In one of the senior classes for my major, only 9 students were enrolled. I don’t know if that’s necessarily worth the extra 10K though. Both are terrific schools. I did initially decide on UCLA myself, but some issues made me go with USC at the very last minute.

@zettasyntax thank you so much

Check into 4 year graduation rates for that major at UCLA. If you can’t, that extra 10k may be a wash because besides tuition, you start working and earning later. At USC, graduating in 4 and even double majors in that time are doable. Also changing majors easy at USC. Just something else to consider. Alumni network is a big deal at USC as well. Both good schools obviously, just other things to factor in. Personally, the rankings, not so much if they aren’t miles apart.

Hey guys, so I received a SGR and since I may hear back during mid July I will be committing to another school. I will be registering for classes and applying for houses etc. I was wondering if USC were to accept me can I just withdraw from the other school without any problem? How does this situation usually work out?

@kemobk I would tell your counselor your situation and they might be able to give you your decision sooner.

@sagerheinschild The problem is that they asked for SGR and my semester doesn’t finish until June 12. I dont mind waiting until mid July for USC, I just want to know if it would be a problem to the school I am currently committed to.

@kemobk I did that with UCLA a few years ago, but it was slightly different for me. I didn’t hear from USC until June 6th. UCLA had a deadline of June 1st and since I heard nothing, I decided to just go with UCLA. At that point, I feared that USC was going to reject me again since rejections are some of the last decisions to go out. That, or I thought they just forgot about me or something. When I finally received my USC decision and see it’s for the spring semester, I was conflicted. I committed there as well just in case I would be bumped up to the fall, but continued plans with UCLA. I put money down for housing. I eventually backed out of UCLA and decided to accept my spring start once I found out that USC had a new major that seemed to be tailor made for my interests. However, I was able to be fully refunded for my housing costs and everything. I just lost out on the SIR fee when I had committed to UCLA. The only problem that happened was that I had to go down to UCLA and see a counselor before I could officially withdraw from the school.
